    to all those new wave dancers saying things like "alex and icee should have lost they have no skils" go check all their trajectory and history so that you stop sounding like you were born in 2010

      For real. I'm just surprised there are so many ignorant people here who thought they should have lost, because they aren't used to their style. People who say this are most likely looking for explicit, direct musicality, and it takes more than that to win a battle.

    • @Arnoboy93

      +Eren Jaeger Yeah most people are looking for hard hits and punchlines. Just look at the crowd's dead reaction during his round, meanwhile I was screaming in my room ahah.
      And I'm not a big fan of Alex's style to be honest.

      Im watchin him for a longer time, he understands music to the fullest, And you are right... people are looking for dancers with no feel for music, just musicality and beatkilling... Freestyle is about feeling the music, letting it flow trough your body. Not about kill every beat.

    If you have any sort of basic knowledge on hip hop dance, you would realize why Icee and Alex won. Hint: Indirect musicality is also a thing.

    • @iudexCervello
      @iudexCervello 8 лет назад +13

      Their musicality is understated. You are probably used to dancers who hit beats obviously. I mean Yudat isn't completely obvious with the notes they hit, but they are bit more clear about it than icee and alex.
      Just pay attention to the music, then play attention to when a limb or body part stops moving or changes direction, and you'll learn why they are really good at what they do.

      Sorry if I'm wrong in my assumption, but judging from the comments, a lot of people came here specifically from Skitzo & Legit, dancers who make their musicality very clear. Outside of America (particularly in EU), hip hop dancing has a whole lot of variety. In America it's a lot of very clear musicality, especially with American popping, some American krumping, etc. Skitzo is a very good dancer, in my opinion he's one of the best, even at his relatively young age. Even he has branched away from his popping roots though, getting more creative with musicality, flow, etc.
      I first got into dance watching Nonstop, a very skilled American popper, but the more you watch of dance around the world, you begin to see the rigidity and repetition in this sort of dance. I used to think dancers like Kefton were garbage when I first got into dance. Imo Kefton has gotten leagues better recently, but even back when I thought he was garbage, I look back on videos of him and he's always been a creative dancer. My brain literally did not register his flow, creativity, or some of his more subtle beat kills, because I hadn't ever really been exposed to any of these ideas before. Now I pick up on all of these. It wouldn't be a stretch to say that most people haven't been exposed to these ideas either, based on the comment section.
      Let's take a look at this battle in more depth. Now, keep in mind, a lot of dance IS subjective, but you can use a few factors to look at who is usually going to win.
      Flow: So, I would define flow as the smoothness in which dancers transition between moves. Alex & ICE-E are two dancers who have fairly similar styles if you think about it. They both often give up bold, explicit beat kills in favor of more subtle beat kills for the sake of flow. When I think of flow, I think of these two specifically, I literally cannot think of anyone who has better flow than them. Yudat has incredible flow too, don't get me wrong, but quite a few times in this battle they sacrifice flow for a more choppy, explicit beat kill. There's nothing wrong with sacrificing flow for a really good and explicit beat kill, but it's kind of like a risk. In short, the beat kill has to be good. It has to outweigh the sacrifice of flow. Take the Fusion concept battle between Alex and Hoan. Hoan is a very explicit Korean popper, and he takes these sorts of risks consistently, and in their battle, (Spoiler alert) Hoan wins because of how good his explicit beat kills were.
      Energy: Energy involves the dancers, and their ability to get the crowd pumped, which is important in judgement because every normal human on the planet gets influenced at least slightly by the opinion of the overwhelming majority. The dancers who get everyone hyped up more are more well liked typically. I think Yudat definitely succeeded on inciting more energy in the crowd right out of the gate.
      Complexity of movements: You don't necessarily need complex movements to win a battle, but it certainly remains impressive and adds to you winning. Everyone else begin equal, Alex is an absolute monster at complex movements, especially on the floor.
      Overall beat kills: Imo, this is the most important factor. I would say Yudat takes the first round in this regard, and Alex takes the second round. I don't really have any advice regarding how to spot the subtle beat kills, other than to observe carefully.
      Based on all these factors: I would have to agree with the judges. Yudat had great energy, decent flow, fairly complex movements, and they stayed on beat like all dancers of this level do, and they had a few beat kills explicit mostly but some more subtle. Alex & Ice-e had alright energy, great flow, Alex had the most complex movements, and Alex killed the most beats in the second round than anyone else in their rounds. It was a fairly close battle, with (again imo) Yudat taking the first round by a small margin, and Alex taking the second round by a bigger margin, thus; the result we got.
      I know this was a lot to read, but I had some time, and hopefully I explained a few things to you guys. Wish you lads all the best.
