  • In this video we will show you we do our paver base prep. We are using an open graded base method which uses all clean stone for a free draining base. Moisture can cause a lot of problems with pavers and using open graded stone for your base prep can save you a lot of headaches.

Great video! Currently working on my patio paver/retaining wall on a hillside at my house. There is some silt/clay type of soil that’s been too wet and nasty. Your solution of using the mortar mix seems like it would be helpful.
How do you figure out how much you need? I have a roughly 250 sf of surface area I am working on.
    Appreciate it!

Incredible work - why no geo between the 57's and the soil?

Thanks! After amending the soil I like to compact 57s into the sub grade until it’s super solid…when that’s needed it makes more sense to me for geogrid over a soil separator

Do you ever add any chemicals to the stone to stop weed growth, also this looks great

Thanks a lot my friend! Nope, only thing that will deter weeds is a quality joint fill material

What is the little Gizmo with the wire and the stick. I get the use of a transit, but what does that do

It's a Zip Level. Great for measuring/setting elevations quickly. They are quite accurate and can replace the transit in some instances.

Yup it’s a zip level…pretty cool tool but for things that need to be dead on I always use a laser

Compacting the soil will slowdown water drainage it is best to garden rake the soil ....Compacting should only be done after you have laid down your 3/4 inch chip stone the water will drain much easier. .....

Grease gun the tubes always build up air pockets when they reach about half finished even with batter grease gun so the only solution is spend half the tube then chuck new one in

Grease zerk (nipple) could be bad. Not taking grease. Or air lock in the tube. Just about all that couldgo wrong.
