- After 52 years on the Danish throne, Queen Margrethe II signed a historic abdication on Sunday, making her son, Crown Prince Frederik X, the new King of Denmark.
After the handover took place at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen, King Frederik was publicly proclaimed the country's next monarch by Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.
Before being joined by his wife, the new Queen Mary, and four children, Frederik made a speech to spectators of the historic public ceremony.
“Today the throne is passed on. My hope is to become a unifying king of tomorrow,” he said, before acknowledging his mother’s service, adding that she “will be remembered forever as an extraordinary regent.”
Crowned in 1972, serving for more than five decades, the beloved Queen Margrethe announced her intent to abdicate in her annual New Year’s Eve speech during a live television broadcast - shocking much of the nation.

Very, very good, and best of luck to both of them and their long and noble reign. 👍 from Canada 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
You must be a hundred years old making this kind of outrageous statement. Shouldn’t you have learnt history and sociology before learning how to use a computer and social media!
Shouldn't you have learnt manners before being nasty to someone wishing people well? My consolation here is that what you put out there is what you get back. Good luck to you with that mess! 👹
@@najibb6398what are you talking about
Maybe they looked at how long it took for Queen Elizabeth hung on and how old Prince Charles was when he was then taking the throne. This is a healthy decision I think
Charles is a trainwreck.
@@antonio6133I think the majority of Brits will disagree. A YouGov poll from a few months ago shows that 59% think he is doing a good job.
I think you are correct. I think also Queen Margrethe is starting to have health problems, and she could see the impact our Queen’s health issues had on her.
King Charles UK coronation ceremony is said to have cost £100 million, and in the 2021-22 fiscal year, UK taxpayers paid a total of £86.3 million in appanage to their “Sovereign Grant,” while the whole Danish Royal Family, so both the new King and Queen, their children + the Queen mother receive an appanage of just around £14.4 million a year in all.
Being the oldest Kingdom in Europe, Denmark actually also possess the arguably most extravagant coronation Crown in Europe (go look up Rosenborg Castle and the Danish crown jewels), but it, and all the other coronation crowns and most prominent crown jewels are now on public display in the cellar of the Rosenborg Castle for all to see, but are no longer in use.
@@agffans5725 And the Crown Estates paid £442 million to Consolidated Revenue. That means the estates owned by the monarch paid the taxpayers £345 million in 2022 more than the taxpayers paid the Royal Family.
Nobody can stay at any job forever. Do any of you even want to do any role endlessly in perpetuity without end? 😂
Best wishes.
I'm Still waiting for The Kaiser to Return
He returned in 1999.
Stay strongly blessed and happy.
GODS lessings and good health with long life as the new reigning king.
Long live King Pingo aka Frederik X
I’m so happy to see this guy become my King!
Mary is loved by everyone in Denmark
Oh my life, they hugged and kissed! So much more normal than UK who are much too uptight. Should do next step and get rid of "royalty".
Congrats z! I love your low key quiet approach to being monarch s. But you do deserve this international attention. I don’t care what anybody says, royalty is dynastic history of ancestry and country too. As long as royals do good works for communities , I see nothing wrong with with itZ. These people were born into wealth. But I’m sure they know what people want in these modern times. As long as royals help communities I don’t think they mind the wealth. It’s the wealthy who could do good work s for communities. Not just royals, anyway. And there are plenty of of wealthy who do that, But not enough. Greed is still in the lead sadly. But isn’t wonder to still have that sense of fairy tales even in harsh reality! I think we all need a bit of healthy fantasy, as long as don’t get carried away. Godbless this royal family and country of Denmark 😊
Congratulations on the Throne as the new king and monarchy of Denmark 🇩🇰 As king Frederik X
As he Will be serving the nation's with great honor peacekeeping operations during his reign as the new reigningking as his wife continued standing with their roles to serves the nation's largest responsibility.Amen amen.
I guess I missed their being an election in Denmark
They're not elected. It's a constitutional monarchy.
Yes you have. The woman who made the proclamation is the Danish Prime Minister. She is the one with the real power, and she was elected.
@@brontewcatoh, so because she was elected, means she should be able to set stuff in motion that undermines needing to be elected? 👍 great plan
@@jesseroberts1041 Sorry? What on Earth are you talking about? Denmark is a constitutional monarchy. That means the monarch is subject to the will of the elected representatives.
What has being an elected PM got to do with dismantling the system.
@@brontewcat the monarch’s that don’t pay taxes.
I also used the PM as an example because it’s just so standard these days that no government official seems to pay taxes, but omg, if WE don’t, JAIL TIME!
These new sellouts can be happy to prove me wrong, but I’m not trusting them for Denmark like I don’t trust my own countries leaders.
Long live the King.
Looks like they’re going to give them English monarch a run for their money
Beautiful kiss king and the queen of Denmark 🤴🫅❤️🙏.
King Charles and Camilla should have a seal kiss on their coronation ceremony. 😂😂.
Charles should do the same thing NOW. 😂😂 People love William and Kate much much more.

As an American, it would be cool to be royalty, especially European imo (in the 21st century 😂) but they’re just regular people. I don’t see the hype on why ppl love them. Once a president is done being president, most rly don’t care. They have a shelf life.
Reminds me of Vinland saga but irl
Next is Prince William!
first Britain and territories and now Denmark monarch. can’t wait to see what the new generation of monarchs will accomplish.
Nothing probably
Constitutional monarchs don't accomplish anything. They perform their duties.
And thats exactly how everyone likes it to be

He wasn’t!

✝Denmark has a new king and queen a royal couple that's fantastic hopefully they will honor the universal King Jesus Christ !!.
The monarch is the head of The Church of Denmark (lutheran protestant) so in that sense, he'll have to even if he doesn't want to. ;)
Weird how we still have kings and queens in today's world where those roles dont have that much powers anymore.
They can influence their citizens to make good decisions if the monarchs also make good decisions and lead exemplary lives.
A.k.a. they can be good role models if they're relatable to their people. And that in turn fosters a stronger sense of belonging to a community or country - something that is lacking and much needed in today's world.
They can live the life of luxury while taxpayers barely get by.
They serve the role as ceremonial head of state - like Presidents do in some countries!
However, having one of the oldest houses of Royals in the world is a far better for the branding of a country than having an elected head of State!
It might sound weird, but for a small country like Denmark, (small country, but huge Kingdom in regards to territory), having royals is a huge marketing benefit!
So as long as they’re willing to do the job, take upon themselves the responsibilities and limitations such a life gives them - I’m okay with them being very privileged on other issues!
Very unchristian of them. Matthew 23:12 -Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.
Which is odd, being as they claim to be Catholics.
@@theredboneking
No, they’re NOT Catholics - the National Church of Denmark is Evangelical-Lutheran - and together with the Parliament, His Royal Highness, King Frederik X of Denmark is the Supreme Authority over the Church!

Cool... Now clean the house.
This is when they remove the monarch's image from public display, because nobody wants the face of some man up there.
Denmark the only country to lose a war in six hours
@@Thomgxx100 Not so much a war, but a scuttle, thanks for that.
It would have been crazy to keep fighting such a superior force. It was a wise decision to surrender.
@@Thomgxx100 I think you are confusing "Zanzibar" ( Africa ) with "Tranquebar" = modern days "Tharangambadi" in Tamil Nadu, India?!!
@@k7u5r8t4 I stand corrected.
@@Thomgxx100 When our then Crown Prince couple was on an Official State Visit to India last year 2023 ( standing in for Queen Margrethe II, due to her back injury surgery! ), they also Officially visited Tamil Nadu, their political leader the Guvernour and various Danish/Indian projects and companies. There has been a lot of ( good ) diplomatic and business contacts between Tamil Nadu and Danmark in recent decades.
An outdated, unnecessary, waste of taxpayers money.
Couldn’t have said it better myself.
The constitutional monarchy is actually preserving peoples faith in democracy, and uniting the people of the nation in spite of political disinterest!
“Constitutional Monarchy” I wonder who voted for that?
@@theredbonekingAre you Danish? You certainly don't seem to be.

Queen Margreta, abdicate to save the monarchys survival. because of Fredericks scandalous infidelity.
