Nice one andy! Yes IMO the gold glamour Maderia is a fair substitute. The Zeylon has more crinkle in it, creating the sparkle. There is also a sparkle yarn availab'le that I am not sure what it is made from. A fine morning after lots of storms last night, took my dog out to let him water the tree's first thing this morning and he found a white chicken in our backyard. Lucky bird. If ei!ther of us had caught it, it would be supper in the pot and skin would be drying for feathers. Have a great day!
All the upwing deer hair flies go back to the late Fran Betters who I first met in 1961. Fran's flies were made famous by the more sophisticated Comparadun. Gary LaFontaine says the half circle of deer hair is the second most attractive wing style to trout next to the fanwing. There are numerous materials you can use for the wing and some are better than deer hair.
