Pharm D doctors have good knowledge about medications and good clinical exposure to various clinical cases in hospital, it is good that a Pharm D student has made this video
My question is after doing 6 yr course in Pharm D what are the options to pursue .....
1 ) clinical Pharm D doctor position in hospitals
2) clinical research
3) Drug inspector
4) Pharmaceutical company
5) medical representative
6) retail pharmacy
7) Phd courses and teaching
8) hospital admin course / MPH course
9) writing for Pharma journals
In Indian hospital scenario a" DOCTOR " in the hospital is someone that takes care of the patient , from admission to management of patient and discharge from hospital. If the Pharm D doctors do not work on par with MBBS / BAMS / BHMS / BUMS doctors in hospitals then there are no jobs for them , very few places with hire Pharm D doctors as "show piece" to satisfy the medical inspections and authorities . All this thing about Clinical pharmacy counselling the patients is useful only when you work as medical officers or house officers in hospitals , otherwise no hospital staff with respect you or call you as doctor. Many private hospitals train staff with no medical background to get some hands -on training in wards and operating theatres , these staff learn the skills and slowly gain experience .
In my opinion Pharm D doctors should try to be on par with MBBS doctors atleast to get jobs in hospitals , eventually they can gain experience and someday open their own clinics ( PCI is working on private prescribing of medicines by Pharm D doctors ) .
All the other options I mentioned above can be done by B. Pharm and M. Pharm graduates whose curriculum is more towards the Industrial and manufacturing sectors , so no need for 6 yr Pharm D course , only those who work hard like MBBS doctors and can manage patients like MBBS doctors in hospitals should take up Pharm D ccourse .
Totally agree with you.
But one thing I want to add in this is "research" I think it's like a boon to pharmacy students and a full year (pharmd 5 th year) is dedicated to research n all..
And you are right that we spent 6 years of our life toh according to me prescription writing to milna chahiye and PCI ko kuch karna Hoga.
Pharmd in India is in developing process..
In India medical facilities and patient care is not upto the mark and from starting we only know doctor mtlb mbbs...
So pharmd in India is still fighting for their position..
And lack of knowledge is also there...
But we have some plans for this we hope we change something.
