If you take lump sum you' re looking at 60% of the reported jackpot. Taxes will take about 30% of what you get. If you are in 20's or 30's maybe you consider annual payments but in most cases you are best take lump sum and invest in index funds.
I think the annuity or lump sum question only matters dependent on how much you win. If you win a million why would you annuitize that? If you win $100 million maybe consider it. I would personally lump sum my winnings and invest because your money grows faster with the right investments. Annuity has a lower investment interest rate that barely covers inflation year to year. And a finanical team is highly considered if you win a huge amount of money unless you are use to handling hundrds of millions of dollars on a daily basis. Also, one thing to remember is to continue a budget so you wont blow all of your money

Take the lump sum or the annuity depends on your age, 40 years old or younger take the annuity, over 40, then take lump sum. Anything can happen over 30 years. Myself I don't play lottery, because I don't waste money on something I have no chance to win.
