The reason you got a 5-second bullet bill and green shell in 7th was the fact that your own game/screen decides the items and bullet bill lengths, and communicates through a proxy to nintendo's (well, now wiimfi, but whatever) servers, and to the other racer's wiis. And the reason teleporting happens is the fact that the cpu drives until the other wii's tell your wii where the racer is
It might have to do with the leaf piles and them giving out tons of shrooms/bananas maybe reaching some item limit for how many items can be on the ground at once resulting in it giving you an item that cannot be dropped on the ground (a mushroom). That would be my guess.
TWD98 the reason why you got 8th on 2nd race because the game keeps track time NOT the sever. The sever most of time tells what time on each players time is like time trail. So when they finish the race your timer is lower then the 2 players menses you beat them, is even stranger the game don't relay people who in last place and stop them all does stop you and the time.
I think what happened in the second race is that after the game couldn't get a stable connection, it replaced you with a cpu until the game got a connection on other people's screen, so you were probably teleporting when your game got a connection on other people's screens. Oh yeah, everyone you fought was a cpu for the most part. I'm guessing that near the end of the match, the game still couldn't get a stable connection, so the cpu was still up on other people's screens, and it managed to finish before you, so the game gave you the cpu's points.
Troy had like a 5 second lag start, so the Rosalina's time was 5 seconds slower than what it appeared to be. (It actually took me a long time to figure that out. I thought before that they almost got world record as well lol)
YoshiKart CCX Troy's timer started counting when Troy started the race, but everybody else started about 5 seconds before Troy, so Troy's timer was essentially 5 seconds behind what it should have been. So instead of the "1:45" that showed on Troy's screen, that Rosa got like a 1:50 (which is still amazing for a normal race lol). It's kind of confusing to explain :P

This has major outcomes, since Troy's timer is out of sync with everyone else's, which causes the game to glitch out.
My guess - Mariokart 7's four month old birthday in Japan (notice video upload date, because in Japan it was one day later and MK7 was released on Dec. 1 there) was bogging down their servers.
You were placed eight on the second race because the game actually calculates your final ranking based on how much time the race took you, so they must have took longer.

I think that your internet router/modem was struggling to connect to the main internet, possibly because lots of other people in your street was using the internet a lot as well. If that is not the case, the I don't know why that happened. Just my best prediction.

One of those people were a yoshi, and they ALWAYS got a 5 second head start, which shows that everyone must've been everyone else was lagging. So that Yoshi almost overlapped us a couple of times due to this lag.

For your case it only started to lag after everyone including your time started at the same time.

I was 2nd place the whole time, and a Bob-Omb has appeared out of nowhere. Once I finished it, the game told that I'm in 2nd place, yet the victory music was being played instead. After this and the second race, we all got disconnected. My Internet worked quite fine during the whole time. How deceptive!
I once had a race in GBA Biwser Castle 3 where I used a mushroom to take the cut, in first, then the lightning came and gave me a commanding lead and cross far ahead of everyone else, but I got lagged down to second in spite of my lead.
The most laggy race I've done yet was on N64 Sherbet Land. But the lag was good for me. I finished in 5th place, and I ended up being in 1st. Afterwards I got DC'd.

Very probably something wrong with your ISP that particular session, with terrible latency delivered to MKWii servers at the time. Internet can go down in a lot of weird ways. A certain service may be almost unreachable while others are perfectly fine, and only for a specific subset of customers in a geographic location. There is supposed to be some amount of redundancy to still have some service but when it goes bad, this happens..

Like on the minimap, it showed me that he was right behind me, then I was a lap late, then my guy teleported to the polar opposite of the map, like he has skipped the half of the map. After this he went afk again. This happened again with 2 races, with him teleporting everywhere then I left.

Lag isn't just caused by a poor internet connection you have. It's also caused by other people's poor connections or, if too many people are using Nintendo's website at once, that can also cause a problem.
It might actually help if you get lag as if everyone got in front of you but it turned out as if you were in 1st place in the real game. That is the opposite of the lag shown in this video.
Troy,That speedtest in your computer doesnt mean anything in your wii. I recommend u to do the speedtest in your wii,on the internet channel.There you will have the real connection in your wii.If the ping is under 50 that´s good. PD:I have a connection of 12 ping on my computer and on the wii that it´s 4 metters from the router has 45 ping lmao.
