This is weird, the only lag I get is the usual people jumping off the track and then magically regenerating instantly back on the track.

The reason you got a 5-second bullet bill and green shell in 7th was the fact that your own game/screen decides the items and bullet bill lengths, and communicates through a proxy to nintendo's (well, now wiimfi, but whatever) servers, and to the other racer's wiis. And the reason teleporting happens is the fact that the cpu drives until the other wii's tell your wii where the racer is

TWD98 the reason why you got 8th on 2nd race because the game keeps track time NOT the sever. The sever most of time tells what time on each players time is like time trail. So when they finish the race your timer is lower then the 2 players menses you beat them, is even stranger the game don't relay people who in last place and stop them all does stop you and the time.
Wtf this is already more than 4 years old :o This is still so crazy... o.O

This video just came up on my recommended. I remember watching this like 6 years ago and just being shocked by the amount of lag. Amazing video
It might have to do with the leaf piles and them giving out tons of shrooms/bananas maybe reaching some item limit for how many items can be on the ground at once resulting in it giving you an item that cannot be dropped on the ground (a mushroom). That would be my guess.

Troy had like a 5 second lag start, so the Rosalina's time was 5 seconds slower than what it appeared to be. (It actually took me a long time to figure that out. I thought before that they almost got world record as well lol)

YoshiKart CCX Troy's timer started counting when Troy started the race, but everybody else started about 5 seconds before Troy, so Troy's timer was essentially 5 seconds behind what it should have been. So instead of the "1:45" that showed on Troy's screen, that Rosa got like a 1:50 (which is still amazing for a normal race lol). It's kind of confusing to explain :P

I think what happened in the second race is that after the game couldn't get a stable connection, it replaced you with a cpu until the game got a connection on other people's screen, so you were probably teleporting when your game got a connection on other people's screens. Oh yeah, everyone you fought was a cpu for the most part. I'm guessing that near the end of the match, the game still couldn't get a stable connection, so the cpu was still up on other people's screens, and it managed to finish before you, so the game gave you the cpu's points.
Troy's official track should be maple treeway.
This is where the "BAM shock dodge originated.

I remember watching this years ago and thinking this was insane then, but I came back here because this literally happened to me for the first time last night. Everyone was teleporting all over the place, and I got 1st almost every race on my own screen but almost never on anyone else's. So bizarre.
one time I was playing DKR Star City on CTGP-R and I got 2nd on my screen, but the results gave me 10th
3:55 when you said you got it by the bomb car there was actually a bomb right in front which exploded as the bomb car exploded which you didn't see but that's the thing hit you. Figured this out after the video being out for 6 years
I hate to be that guy y'know but I'm fairly sure he was looking behind him using the rear view function, that's why it looks like the explosion is in front of him
I think the jump on moonview highway brought everyone back to their normal positions.

Actually, just yesterday I was racing on MKWii with my cousin on regular worldwide races. There were about 10 people in the races I had. One of those people were a yoshi, and they ALWAYS got a 5 second head start, which shows that everyone must've been everyone else was lagging. So that Yoshi almost overlapped us a couple of times due to this lag.
My guess - Mariokart 7's four month old birthday in Japan (notice video upload date, because in Japan it was one day later and MK7 was released on Dec. 1 there) was bogging down their servers.
I once had a race in GBA Biwser Castle 3 where I used a mushroom to take the cut, in first, then the lightning came and gave me a commanding lead and cross far ahead of everyone else, but I got lagged down to second in spite of my lead.
I really love lag, it's fun and just as confusing and it benefits you much more than anything.

The most laggy race I've done yet was on N64 Sherbet Land. But the lag was good for me. I finished in 5th place, and I ended up being in 1st. Afterwards I got DC'd.

In a real-time online race with little to no lag, you can't possibly obtain ahead-of-time opponent coordinates from over the network BEFORE those coordinates are reached and sent (let alone with just Gecko codes).
What probably happened is that, somehow (network failure?), Troy's game received the end-of-synchronization-phase signal 20 seconds after everyone else began the race. This has major outcomes, since Troy's timer is out of sync with everyone else's, which causes the game to glitch out.

one time I was on mkwii I was on GV2 I pulled of the glitch Perfectly, and my friend got shocked (I was on the phone w/him). I said there's no shock then bam I get shocked and i had enough air too "facepalm" (IT WAS MY FIRST TIME PULLING IT OFF ON MIRROR AND ONLINE)
There was a hacker in my room that made the game lag so bad, it took me 4 minutes to finish 2 laps on dk summit. I wish I recorded it
Once I got a lag start and so I was in last place but then people were teleporting and to top that off! The people I were playing with on wifi like their karts and bikes were facing forwards but they were driving backwards! It was crazy!!!
Wow. I've never seen anything like that before. I've had lag finishes where I finished in like 5th place and got 3rd but nothing like this. O.o

I get some crazy lag like this on Mario Kart 8 once in a while. Don't ever get it on MKW though.

.....as soon as I give the thunder cloud it comes right back with no one that hit me, some times there is no one there when I have a thunder cloud, and I heard puck like some one hit me when I see no one, and the thunder cloud just warp to the one that hit me, but on my screen it was way ahead of me.
i was in a 4 player room in 1st, got passed by two people near the end of the line, finished 3rd on my screen but i lagged both of them somehow and finished first

Seems like a normal day of racing on MK7 for me.
I think that your internet router/modem was struggling to connect to the main internet, possibly because lots of other people in your street was using the internet a lot as well. If that is not the case, the I don't know why that happened. Just my best prediction.

I once finished in last on toad's factory after some very bad luck, but when it showed the rankings I was 3rd! From 12th to 3rd because of lag!
Something quite similar occurred to me once in Mario Kart 7, while playing against someone from Europe.
For the first one, my opponent zipped far off before the race actually start. I was 2nd place the whole time, and a Bob-Omb has appeared out of nowhere. Once I finished it, the game told that I'm in 2nd place, yet the victory music was being played instead. After this and the second race, we all got disconnected.
My Internet worked quite fine during the whole time. How deceptive!

That his not the definition of a lag start, a lag start means your timer start counting after the other, and when you finish 8th on the others people screen you would actually finish in a better position, and that can even show on your screen. For your case it only started to lag after everyone including your time started at the same time.

That happen to me a lot when I had the usb connecter for playing online, now it happen a lot less since I used a Router, sometime I finish first and it shows that I finish second, one time the one that reach the finish line before me stop at the finish line, me being in second place at the last curve I saw the one that stop at the finish move too the finish line, I finish second on my screen, then when the result show up it shows me in first place. When I hit some one to give thunder cloud.....
