    as a professional car audio installer ill tell you that you did not do a bad job and this video is definitely going to be helpful to the diy people but there are certain things you could do to make it better like organizing, cutting and tapping all the alarms wire to come out of one harness that is just to look clean and oem another major thing is that the 12v tester is Not recommended to install alarm as they can mess up the newer cars the best tool would be a dmm.

  • @JerryRigEverything
    @JerryRigEverything  11 лет назад +6

    Yes, you can very easily do it yourself. All you need is one of those little wire testers to see which wires have power, and when they have power. And sense you've already worked with car audio stuff you'll be just fine. I didn't have any formal training when I did my first alarm, Just a background in car audio just like you. (This particular video is my 3rd alarm install.)

      Hey Zack I have a question about my 02 Santa Fe. I'm trying to do a remote start too but my ignition and starter wires are the same color. Any ideas?

  • @JerryRigEverything
    @JerryRigEverything  11 лет назад +4

    Yes, it tells you which wires have electricity, and when. (for finding the positive door wires) I linked one in the video description for you. Its very inexpensive.

    I did not expect you to be the guy teaching me how to do this right now but I couldn’t have asked for anyone better, thanks Zack!

    Thanks for your input. Like you stated, there are lots of ways and places to install alarms. I chose the best for this vehicle and situation. Everyone watching is free to place their computer and siren where they wish. Hopefully this video gave them the basics of the install process.

    I just googled 'wiring scheme' for the particular car i was working on and would be able to find it that way. Or, if you make a little slit in the wire and stick your probe (the little light up gizmo i was using in the video) into the wire, its the wire that has power when the door is opened. Just make sure to cover the slit with electrical tape after you discover which one it is.

    Thanks man! I'm glad you liked my video. Thanks for the positive feedback. It means a lot.

    You only need a bypass model (for a remote start system) If you key is 'chipped'. A way of getting around the bypass model is to keep a spare key zip tied somewhere underneath the dash, but that could compromise the security of your car.

  • @JerryRigEverything
    @JerryRigEverything  11 лет назад

    Best buy is way good with their warranty and stuff. If they mess something up they'll fix it. Ive been impressed with them in the past. Youll be just fine using them.

  • @JerryRigEverything
    @JerryRigEverything  11 лет назад

    The hardest part is identifying the correct wires in your car. But other than that, it isnt too bad. If you have any experience with car audio systems it'll be pretty similar.

  • @JerryRigEverything
    @JerryRigEverything  11 лет назад

    I think they are fantastic. Its pretty much the same procedure as a car alarm, and they cost just about the same. Amazon has the best deals on the DIY kits, so check there first. My truck is a manual though, so i haven't really gotten around to finding a system that works with it.

    Thank you for explaining how the yellow, orange, black, and green wired relay goes 👍

  • @JerryRigEverything
    @JerryRigEverything  11 лет назад

    It depends on how they have it wired. You would just have to go in, and unconnected all of the starter wires, and reconnect them as they were before the system was installed. (All the colored wires should match back up with themselves.) It'll take you an hour or so.

  • @matthewmckinney6745

  • @JerryRigEverything
    @JerryRigEverything  11 лет назад

    You shouldn't need any diodes. The pulse only goes one direction, and only attaches to one wire, so you'll be fine just tying straight into the wire. (Thats how the instructions tell you to do it anyway.) Diodes wouldnt hurt, but you dont need them either.

  • @JerryRigEverything
    @JerryRigEverything  12 лет назад

    Its very similar. Make sure to pull up the wiring scheme for your mazda 6 (to tell what wire does what) Then its the exact same as what i did here.

  • @JerryRigEverything
    @JerryRigEverything  11 лет назад

    No, Most likely not. Youll have to look up the wiring schematic for your vehicle. If you google it, youll find a PDF or something you can look at that will tell you.

  • @JerryRigEverything
    @JerryRigEverything  11 лет назад

    Sensitivity might be turned the wrong direction? Same thing with your wires. You might have them attached backwards. That way when the door sensor closes it trips the alarm instead of the other way around.

  • @JerryRigEverything

    It is pretty complicated, so only try it if you think you can do it. You could cause a lot of damage to your vehicle if you cut the wrong wires.

  • @JerryRigEverything
    @JerryRigEverything  11 лет назад

    You should only need the same wires that i used in this video. At some point during the video (towards the end i think...) I show which wires i didnt use.

  • @JerryRigEverything
    @JerryRigEverything  11 лет назад

    Its super hard to know what you are talking about without being there. Each car has different colored wires. If you find the schmatic online, and have that little wire testing tool (that i put in the video description), you should be able to figure it out.

    I'm installing a similar model(3305v) in my 95 jeep wrangler, so I'll be using a minimal setup. I just wanted to confirm, the optional sensors(this would include power locks, truck release, etc for my application) do not need to be terminated or grounded or anything other than be tucked away nearly if not used? I would really only be wiring in the shock sensor, doors open/closed, the starter/ignition cutoff, and the siren. Great tip with fishing the wire through the firewall!

    • @JerryRigEverything
      @JerryRigEverything  10 лет назад

      Nice! I just bought a Jeep as well. Love those things. Anyway, to answer your question, yes, you can just tuck them away and not use them at all. Id put electrical tape around the ends to make sure they don't accidentally connect to anything metal. Have fun man, let me know if you have any other questions.

    Thanks for the video. I have purchased the one you linked to and have been looking into installing it myself, but I have very little wiring experience outside of audio equipment (car stereo and speakers) so would not consider myself qualified at all.
    Everyone I talk to thinks I should just save up and pay a shop to do it but I feel like I could figure it out given enough time... as someone with experience with this specific system, do you think I could do it correctly without prior experience?

    It would take a thief 10 minutes with the right tools to open up the dash panel of that car. Longer if he wants to keep it in good condition. This is assuming that the thief has already studied out HOW to open this particular dashboard. (Every dash is different.) You are looking at the end result and working backwards. A thief, randomly coming upon this car, would not know a single thing. Granted, there are a million places to install a car alarm. This is a RUclips walk through.

    At 10:57 you pointed at the rear view mirror and it sounded like you said , "the thing up here posted". What is that on the rear view mirror. Is it the receiver? The receiver on my alarm is under the dash, but I have always had to be within a couple of car lengths for the alarm to turn on and off. Was it installed in the wrong place?
    My vehicle is a 1997 Chevy Suburban 1500 LS with an alarm system that came with the vehicle. Last week I left the dome light on and ran the batter dead. I connected a slow charger to charge the battery, but the alarm, which was set before the battery went dead, continuously kept going off. I then use the "start mode" on a battery charger to start my Suburban. The alarm and auto door locks stopped working. I let the engine run for an hour to charge the battery. After I turned off the engine and the alarm started going off again and would not turn off and I could no longer start the vehicle. I had to pull the fuse to the alarm and hold down on a button under the dash to start the Suburban. Do you have any idea how to fix something like this?

    So I installed my alarm on my 79 lesabre and connected every wire to the accessories that it has (no power accessories), so basically just the power, siren, ignition and parking lights. the problem is I get no reaction at all from the unit. no chirps, no led, no indication that there is power. the fuses are not blown by the way, and tested current and has power. What could be wrong? Missing something perhaps?
