I think its more like a first step or first moves, the company didn't play save with jisoo but they just showed what jisoo could actually do in the most simple way. She has been oppressed in the group project for years, she has zero way to showcase herself properly with her voice and her image, so this step is kinda to show the people of her real potential then it'll move up later... On me i personally think they did a great job with her. Idk with other put i amazingly satisfied with it actually, with the bare and simple melody she could reach so good, how well will she do if she upgrade it more....

The song selection is definitely very sales-motivated because don’t slow jams and ballad-y type songs usually not sell as well?

In the K-pop market that's probably true.

Well I know I'll have some ravenous Blinks at my throat for my opinions on these songs, but here it goes.
With all the money and resources at YG Entertainment's disposal I feel they did Jisoo super dirty with these two songs.
Yes, she looked marvelous and sounded nice with what they afforded her, but the instrumentation throughout the verses and pre-choruses was mostly unremarkable and uneventful, the vocals were honestly kind of flat in the mix the entire time and the producer(s) did the thing I detest most in K-pop: an empty chorus with a tacky instrumental section. To me the chorus is the most important part of a K-pop song and both of these songs were essentially devoid of them.
I wanted more emotion, more grit, more mmph. I wanted my smoke alarms to alert me of the smokiness in her voice. I wanted a proper catchy and memorable chorus and not the sound of some Keebler elves humming unintelligibly.
I'm not saying the songs were terrible. But I would be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed. I truly hope she is given a comeback someday that showcases her voice better and is actually a joy to listen to because this just didn't cut it for me. 😔
