Beer helps horses sweat better. Great for body temperature regulation. Some horses, older ones usually, have problems with that. I dont recall of it's specifically the yeast or the alcohol itself that helps. But horses can and do enjoy beer.
Spiked doesn't necessary relate to alcohol. It can also mean adding a drug or a toxin to the drink. Foam is not always found in alcohol, particularly dry wines. I can't see a CO2 tank anywhere, so I presume they are adding syrup with carbonated water (standard fizzy drink ingredients) with the squeezed apple juice.
Carbonation sounds like the best answer. I experiment with seltzer a lot, because I have a sodastream machine. I've made a ton of flavors. Your standard flavor will usually lose its froth in a matter of seconds, but if you use natural fruit or dairy, the frothy head takes a lot longer to go away. I noticed this when I made my own sparkling grape juice. It's probably the same for apples.

In the Turkish Dub, Cider is translated as "Elma Şırası/Şıra" (sometimes called Şire) which is generally accepted as the Turkish equivalent of Apple Cider/Cider but this is actually sooo incorrect. Şıra (pronounced as smth like Shəra) is a Traditional Turkish Drink that is made from grape, apple juice, crushed/pressed but unfiltered apples, a lotta fructose (fruit sugar, that is why the drink is so sweet) which is PARTIALLY FERMENTED but contains NO ALCOHOL, and the colour of the drink is Toprak Kırmızısı which is Soil Red, meaning not even yellow/orange. Also the name is so misleading since Wine literally is an alcoholic drink :/ Trivia; Şıra is usually served/consumed with İskender Kebap, which is a type of Kebap originating from the city of Bursa :)
Having it be sparkling cider makes so much sense. But I could also believe since Earth ponies can grow plants really quickly, (Watch Make this Castle a Home, Applejack make flowers instantly bloom) I could believe the yeast at the bottom of the barrel is instantly turning it into hard cider by earth pony magic.
I remember looking back at the original episode after I was getting into the.. “adult” mindset (aka thinking dirty things after watching an adult show because I was an idiot) when I put the pieces together I thought the cider was actually pretty close to alcohol
We should also take into consideration that from what the show tells us it takes a while to make seeing as most of the town sleeps on the farm in line for the cider which tells us that it isn’t a common thing, I don’t know much about this but I think that if it was normal or sparkling cider it would be easier to make and sell more often, with the competition it could be that they’re making nonalcoholic cider so it wouldn’t have to go through the process for them to know who won. This is just my opinion though
One thing to note is that horses digest alcohol way better than humans, making it so that it takes far more alcohol to be consumed for them to feel the effects we do. In fact, in their society, they probably wouldnt even mind giving alcoholic drinks to children as they will digest it pretty well. This would probably lead to some issues if a human child comes to the mlp world. As they may offer them a very strong alcoholic drink as a custom or just as a show of generosity, having no knowledge of the fact that humans digest alcohol far worse than ponies and that that would literally kill the kid lol.
i dont think it matters if it is a kids show or not. in some older animes or comics like lucky luke, they clearly smoked cigarettes for example and drink alcohol and so why shouldnt they do it here? also since sweet apple acres works with apples and products made out of apples it wouldnt be surprising if they also make cider or use a magic trick to speed up the process to make cider.
So I've spent an irrationally long time thinking about this question, and I mostly agree with your conclusion with a couple of differences. First, there is still a case for fermentation: All fruits grown outdoors have wild yeast on their skin. This yeast gets mixed in during juice extraction, and if left alone, will begin fermentation in a couple of days. Most manufacturers of sweet cider will kill this yeast through pasteurization, but we don't see the Apples do this. Therefore, if left in storage for a little while, their cider *would* begin to ferment. It's possible that they would normally do this, and that the cider episode is an exception to the rule, but there's no evidence one way or the other, and I think it's much more likely that it's served before this happens. As for the carbonation, I don't think they're carbonating the cider in the barrel; the pressure required to dissolve co2 at room temperature is more than I would expect a wooden barrel to hold. I think instead the co2 cylinder is under the selling stand, and the unpressurized barrels plug into it. We even hear a pressurized hiss when a barrel runs out. It looks like the Apple Family’s dispenser uses the pressurized gas to both carbonate the cider and push it out through the nozzle.
Its apple cider Without alchol, (but some of it is probably alcohol, but not right away) in the episode where Maud is introduced, they just smash up apples and cook them, and they taste it right away
fun fact: i'm pretty sure the norwegian dub changed the episode because I vividly remember Pinkie cracking a joke about Rainbow being an alcoholic but now when I search for it I can't for the life of me find it
I had a bad drinking problem in my early 20s and my go to drink was angry orchard, I gained so much weight from all the sugar x3 I like how kids shows like regular show and others have this trope where drinks are clearly hinted at being alcoholic to adults who watch it without saying it's alcoholic. This episode could be an example of that, could not be, but I think it is just for fun 🦄
Even if the cider was alcoholic, it's possible the ponies in the show wouldn't be too affected by it. Horses (and presumably other equines) have enzymes that convert the alcohol into simple sugars for their bodies to process, given the fact that they're (primarily) herbivores, after all.
Baking/cooking laws in equestria are also kinda odd, we've seen Pinkie, or Mrs. Cake bake a beautiful cake in less than 10 minutes. What if the cider fermented as quickly as ovens bake? Great video!
There are like two drug jokes in one episode in my little pony, which surprised me a lot, so I wouldn’t put pass them for making cider and alcohol in my little pony
So what that means is Rainbow has no excuse. When she drank the cider from the ground that all on her. Dang Dash you need get yourself together. Scootaloo is watching!
It’s obviously meant to be non-alcoholic seeing as it’s an American show and Apple Cider is normally non-alcoholic over here. A point could be made about the froth, but I think that is meant to be an aesthetic thing probably.
This show had me thinking that ALL apple cider vinegar was alcoholic for some reason. I was astonished when my brother told me there was APPLE CIDER VINEGAR at a SCHOOL party! Underage drinking! *gasp*
There's one problem with what you said. It depends on the type of apple used. When I pressed king apples into cider, it was frothy like what is on the show.
You forgot to mention that the apple family have a yearly cider season. So why don't they do it all year round? Well, we see in the episode super squeezey cider 6000 that a heck of alot of ponies want c8der (especially rd). And I also vividly remember that there is cellar in the apple farm. All of this implys that the apple family do keep hard cider. My theory is in the episode super squeezey cider 6000, the apple family we're really selling hard cider however when flim and flam came in and made hard cider faster, it was really sweet or sparkling cider however advertised as hard cider (which sounds like a think that they'd do). So the rest of the episode they were making sweet cider instead of hard cider due to the time. But before that I think they really did sell hard cider and that episode was just an exception. And since every year ponies come back for more, and how Rainbow Dash usually reacts to cider. We can assume that Rd is an alcoholic.
Hmm.. this video didn't go where I thought it would at the end. There's a cider SEASON.. meaning there's some reason this cider can only be made through part of the year. Alcohol exists outside of human(or pony in this case) intervention. Plenty of people have had birds and other animals feast on their long since fallen oranges berries and apples and get tipsy. My guess is the apples begin to naturally ferment sometime in the fall and as such there's no need to add yeast(yeast occurs naturally in the air/environment the same as bacteria) and explains why there's a special season.
This episode was not censored but outright banned in my home country, the UK. As far as I know, in the UK, cider is generally associated solely with an alcoholic beverage to the extent that non-alcoholic cider is not even believed to exist or there is no such thing as a non-alcoholic cider in the UK like at all for some reason or maybe I'm just never watching the show on TV except season 6 finale first premiered.😅
I would just like to add that they actually do age their cider. From past episodes we all know that they age their cider woth how it is only "in season" and all that. And i would like to think that they actually make all three lmao Hard cider being the one in season and needing to age those Fresh ones being the ones made to compete with the twins And Sparkling to add some extra flare/guve the looks of their Hard cider that they originally make!
The only way this theory would work is if it’s fermented apples. But I’m pretty sure they were using freshly bucked apples. Fun fact: Moose eat fermented apples and get drunk off them.
I THINK there can b nuance here EXAMPLE: the apple family COULD b makin hard cider BUT when the FLIM FLAM BROTHERZ showed up 2 challenge em 2 make cider fast az they could, they were liek "oshit welp, guess well just make sparklin instead" DATZ WUT I THINK so basically, they usually make hard cider, but they were under pressure & speed, didnt have time 2 do any fermentation so they just settled 4 non-alcoholic
This might sound a little crazy but what if the apples themselves are feemented? Herbivore and omnivore animals often get WASTED on fermented apples. I guess it could explain how they're able to take straight up apples and turn them into an alcoholic beverage
I still think its hard cider. G5 reveals that earth ponies have magic whether they themselves notice it or not. Its how the apple family gets so many apples practically each season. And same goes for the Zap Apples. So for all we know fermentation isnt needed in the way the real world does it Also if it was just sparkling cider NO ONE would be trying to drink it from the mud it spilt onto. Plus no one would be so adicted to it like pinkie and rainbow are.
There’s technically 3 types of cider: Hard, sweet, and sparkling. It’s either hard or sparkling since it’s foamy. Edit: I didn’t finish the video when I commented.
Sweet Cider actually can foam, just not a lot. Used to go to Apple orchards lots when I was a kid and I’ve been served slightly foamed warm sweet cider lots of times plus found out later in life I’m allergic to alcohol so if that had been hard cider, I would be dead now lol. I do believe it’s alcoholic though more so from how much foam it has plus the reactions from RD and Sweet Berry (I believe that’s her name). It really looks just how lots of adults irl would react if you could only get alcohol for a limited time per year at one place
No, but Limestone Pie seems like one. Just look at her- she talks about how miserable she is "all the time," Pinkie (her sister) is a party animal and goes for the "Spiked Punch" joke (and there's implications about substance use with her Manehattan doppelganger) and... her cutie mark. Sweet Jesus, her cutie mark. Rocks and half a lime? She's the margarita pony, misplaced on a rock farm, presumably because she feels like she has to keep the family business together, perhaps for Marble's sake. She's so goddamned depressed, and we never explored her life.
In my opinion. It takes the place of Alkohol in the Show. But the effects aren't the one of alcohol. There it is just one of many things you can drink. Maybe it has a awesome taste, but nothing more. No hangover next day after drinking way too much. Just a bit more weight.

Love you Star Strike!!! Your videos are always so much fun lol 🧡🩷💜💙🩵💚
Its apple cider Without alchol, (but some of it is probably alcohol, but not right away) in the episode where Maud is introduced, they just smash up apples and cook them, and they taste it right away
Everyone:
Strike Strike: “Hey guys, CO2 tanks exist in Equestria!!” 😅
Very fun video, sir. 👍🏼
fun fact: i'm pretty sure the norwegian dub changed the episode because I vividly remember Pinkie cracking a joke about Rainbow being an alcoholic but now when I search for it I can't for the life of me find it
I thought the best way to check to see if any children ponies(I am entirely forgot what the word was) drink it😂😭
2:58 maybe they added coloured whip cream😭
I bet that in the barn they keep the new cider then they sell the cider that has been fermenting for one year that season then repeat
You deserve more subs!❤
I had a bad drinking problem in my early 20s and my go to drink was angry orchard, I gained so much weight from all the sugar x3
I like how kids shows like regular show and others have this trope where drinks are clearly hinted at being alcoholic to adults who watch it without saying it's alcoholic. This episode could be an example of that, could not be, but I think it is just for fun 🦄
it's a well known equestrian fact that alcohol can greatly improve the quality of life for a pony.
Even if the cider was alcoholic, it's possible the ponies in the show wouldn't be too affected by it. Horses (and presumably other equines) have enzymes that convert the alcohol into simple sugars for their bodies to process, given the fact that they're (primarily) herbivores, after all.
Hehehe... You got jokes, mate. nice one. ^w^
Keep up the great work and the awesome job. Really you're doing an excellent job.
Me with a SodaStream:-fizzes sweet cider- it has a small bit of foam and makes a lot of bubbles. I guess I'm making making sparkling cider then...
My husband and I had sparkling cider at our wedding because our venue didn't allow alcohol and let me be the first to tell you that that stuff is GOOD
I almost immediately guessed that the foam could be explained by just adding carbon dioxide, as is done in most other pop beverages.
Geesh, no wonder RD was going hard after that cider. I can't get enough of Martinellies myself. 😅
It’s good to see people still talking about the show and making theories about it. This was a good one ❤
it's funny talking about alcohol in a kids show being a bad thing, i used to have punch as a kid myself, never knew if it was "spiked" or not
lol just had a thought I think pinkie's technically incapable of being an alcoholic since she'd sweat it out almost immediately
I mean , homemade alcohol drinks
HOMEMADE? IS [FNG] FARM MADE
man how much i would love to be alcohol
Your telling me my girl rainbow dash is a alcoholic
So what that means is Rainbow has no excuse. When she drank the cider from the ground that all on her.
Dang Dash you need get yourself together. Scootaloo is watching!
I always grew up thinking that all cider was non alcoholic because of this episode and I always begged my parents for cider
*gasp*
I’ve seen a drawing picture of Rainbow Dash and Sonic looking drunk and the ciders spilling from deviant art
It could depend how you take it both options are possibly but yes the name 6 are adults and seem like 21 and are aloud to drink anything
I needed this
I thought the Alcoholic was Berry Punch. Though that pun Pinkie said is a good indication that they know what Alcohol is and have had it
You are now the third RUclipsr I've seen mention the glowing Subscribe button. First MatPat, then Markiplier. Now you.
I would just like to add that they actually do age their cider. From past episodes we all know that they age their cider woth how it is only "in season" and all that.
And i would like to think that they actually make all three lmao
Hard cider being the one in season and needing to age those
Fresh ones being the ones made to compete with the twins
And
Sparkling to add some extra flare/guve the looks of their Hard cider that they originally make!
WELCOME TO FILM THEORY
I've always thought it was alcoholic, but hypothetically it could be apple cider nitro drink style
Maybe the animators added the foam to the cider to make it twice out more and less boring if there were s no foam it would just look boring
I think the "And now the punch has been Spiked" line by Pinkie Pie was just a pun on how Spike fell in the punch bowl. No offense.
So, still a binge addict. Just, not an alcoholic.
Next mystery: Is Applejack secretly an alcoholic pony?
The only way this theory would work is if it’s fermented apples. But I’m pretty sure they were using freshly bucked apples.
Fun fact: Moose eat fermented apples and get drunk off them.
I THINK there can b nuance here
EXAMPLE: the apple family COULD b makin hard cider
BUT when the FLIM FLAM BROTHERZ showed up 2 challenge em 2 make cider fast az they could, they were liek "oshit welp, guess well just make sparklin instead"
DATZ WUT I THINK
so basically, they usually make hard cider, but they were under pressure & speed, didnt have time 2 do any fermentation so they just settled 4 non-alcoholic
"Apple Juice" is a good pony name. So is "Hard Cider."
Long answer: your video
Short answer: yea
FIRST COMMENT! I LOVE THIS CHANNEL! ive watched for about a year now and these theories are amazing!!
That is why I assosiate her with Husk from Hazbin hotel, they just fit eachother😂
So for all we know fermentation isnt needed in the way the real world does it
Also if it was just sparkling cider NO ONE would be trying to drink it from the mud it spilt onto. Plus no one would be so adicted to it like pinkie and rainbow are.
Sparkling cider is better than pumpkin cider, I'll die on this hill.
What about...
Sparkling pumpkin spice cider???
@Star_Strike hmm 🤔 never tried it, but I'm willing to taste it.
@@Smartyvoy I've never tried it either. I have no idea if it's a thing, but I would certainly try it if I came across it!
0:43 fact I drink this some since I'm 18 and can't drink but seriously who doesn't want this one and a nice day
Sparkling cider. Boom, there’s your answer. It’s delicious and foamy.
There’s technically 3 types of cider: Hard, sweet, and sparkling.
It’s either hard or sparkling since it’s foamy.
Edit: I didn’t finish the video when I commented.
I applaud you for figuring it out before the end of the video though!
*she seems pretty addicted to me* 0:19
New fear unlocked: Drunk Pinkie Pie
No, but Limestone Pie seems like one.
Just look at her- she talks about how miserable she is "all the time," Pinkie (her sister) is a party animal and goes for the "Spiked Punch" joke (and there's implications about substance use with her Manehattan doppelganger) and... her cutie mark.
Sweet Jesus, her cutie mark. Rocks and half a lime? She's the margarita pony, misplaced on a rock farm, presumably because she feels like she has to keep the family business together, perhaps for Marble's sake.
She's so goddamned depressed, and we never explored her life.
It’s like the whole is mince, the equivalent of drugs in Sonic The, Hedgehog Old, because Taylor seems to have addiction to
Sparkling cider hell yeah
Are the cider safe to drink applejack does not sperate the appleseeda which contains cynaide which is deadly to creatures if you eat 200 seeds
In my opinion. It takes the place of Alkohol in the Show. But the effects aren't the one of alcohol. There it is just one of many things you can drink. Maybe it has a awesome taste, but nothing more.
No hangover next day after drinking way too much. Just a bit more weight.
