I'm glad you posted this because it gives me some insight as to what ill be doing in the future. I graduate with my undergrad summer 2020 and I will (hopefully) get accepted at my local graduate program for MOT in the following semester.
It is good to see my sisters prosper. The nurses can make good money at the ADN/BSN if they work a good amount of hours i.e. texas $21-30 shift dif. A MOT can make about 50-60k to start straight out of school but a PT make a whole lot more. I thought about nursing before getting my doctorate in public health. Again, good information:). I love her logic I was a CNA and it was hell no help from the nurses and under paid.

I have been going back in forth on what i would do with this major since ive switched from nursing. i been thinking about occupational therapy a lot but i was torn between going back for nursing!! this video made me feel a little bit more comfortable with my choice as an occupational therapist!!

Omg ! This is a perfect video. I'm a guy interested in both Nursing (RN) and OTA, OT ☺. I felt bad RNs make less but experience and specialties does help an RN or advanced nurses pay alot!
Takes about 3 years to get an RN straight out of high school. LPN takes about 2 years to get and another 2 years for RN. OT take about 5-6 years. You can get your RN at any community college and OT takes a masters degree.
@@lindae4118 No. A RN is an associates degree. Theres a reason why community colleges offer RNs and why Universities offer BSN, BACHELOR'S of Science in Nursing.
Glad you mentioned the productivity. A lot of people do not understand or know about performance standards. I would recommend during the interview asking how may hours they have daily. Of course, they are going to say it fluctuates. It sucks if they are not well established. One company over hired, and I only had 1-2 hours a work a day! I was full time. Of course I had to leave, because you can't expect to make a living with that little of work.
LPN 1 year to 15 months depends on the school, then your RN will be an additional 2 years (if you have to complete prerequisites). Most schools offer bridge program LPN to RN 1 year.
I am in my second year of OT school & just watched this video! I would be curious to hear about whether the nursing team has OTs on the care team, and what that interdisciplinary relationship looks like for patients!
This will be me and my sister in the future, I’m the oldest as well and I am going for OT. My younger sister is going for nursing, and my younger sister also got her medical assistant degree in high school as well. Plus we are Nigerian as well.
Just a note though: when you get your MSOT vs. DOT you don’t make more money. That’s what grad schools want you to think but I’m about to go into my MSOT program and any job offered to me will be the same pay if I got my doctorate.
Rena Ribeiro you are absolutely right, I would be grandfathered into it once the transition is made. I personally want to get my doctorate but idk in what yet and is not to get paid more
Why do OTs get paid more than RNs? I know that OTs get a higher education (masters or doctorates) but isn’t it a requirement? I feel like nurses do a lot for a patient as well. 😊
OTs have to go through ALOT for schooling. I don't think people realize how much you have to know and understand as an OT unless you go through OT school. It is hell. I am in the thick of it right now. OT education is a Masters or Doctorate degree that includes Gross Anatomy (dissecting cadavers (people)), a very strong background in Neuroscience including neuroanatomy, clinical neurophysiology, neurorehabilitation, biomechanics and orthopedics... The list really goes on and on. OT education is very intense and the job that OTs do is very unique and versatile. You are essentially learning very similar coursework as Medical Students who are going for their MD. In my program we use the same textbooks and have the same professors as the students in the Physician Assistant, Physical Therapy, Doctor of Chiropractic, and Medical Doctorate programs. We literally are in some of the same classes! I am not trying to discredit or minimize nursing but really my sister is in nursing school and when you compare our coursework side by side its not even in the same fieldhouse. I think all medical professions are very difficult! But some do have to do more work than others to get there, When you compare a Doctorate program with a Bachelors program there really are a lot of differences in regards to the amount you have to learn and the level of difficulty of the material which makes sense the difference in salary.
alyssa porter My goal is to go to OT school and I wanted to know because all I see here are people going to nursing school and talk about the intensity and pay afterwards. I just don’t see or hear much talk about OT. But I appreciate your comment, thank you so much! It’s what I honestly wanted to read. :)
@@cestquoi3014 Really OT school is very rewarding - you learn SO MUCH.
