📘 About SWAMI SARVAPRIYANANDA:
Swami Sarvapriyananda is the Minister and spiritual leader of the Vedanta Society of New York. He is a well-known speaker on Vedanta and his talks are extremely popular worldwide. Swami Sarvapriyananda served as assistant minister of the Vedanta Society of Southern California in 2015. He was later appointed head of the Vedanta Society of New York, a position he has been serving since 6 January 2017. He was in the first group of Hindu swamis to participate as a Nagral Fellow for the year 2019-20 at Harvard Divinity School.
Swami Sarvapriyananda Early Life & Education:
Swami Sarvapriyananda was born in Kolkata and grew up in Bhubhaneshwar in the Indian state of Odisha to a pious Bengali family. From childhood onwards, he was inclined towards spirituality and was inspired by the lives of Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda. His family was also devoutly religious. His parents and grandparents were initiated devotees in the Ramakrishna Order tradition.He has stated that his first goal in life was to become a pilot and the second was to find God, with the second goal later becoming his only goal. Sarvapriyananda joined the Ramakrishna Order in 1994 and took his monastic vows as sanyasa diksha was bestowed upon him by Swami Ranganathananda in 2004.

What I get from this talk is that consciousness in itself is blank. It must come into contact with a mind to experience anything. If gurus claim nirvana, I think they are detached from the mind, which stills the body to be in its natural state of being and the guru is no longer thinking of anything to disturb his/her equipoise.
Its like light having no form until it hits something.

Consciousness is non dual contradicts the first statement that consciousness is distinct from the body. Because if we are really distinct then no perception can take place . After making the statement consciousness is non dual all the other statements are dualistic so they could be discarded. This is one of the method , there are other methods like Kashmir shaivism which do not take us separation approach to reach non duality .

Consciousness is not a thing…it is characteristic for the action we perform
It is like…can see objects through light but can’t see the light itself…if you become the light what do you see…..
