I had the honor of owning an Irish Wolfhound. He was gentle, gigantic, friendly, smart, loyal, and so athletic. He also would stretch out on our 7' couch...and then there was no room for us. He has long since "Crossed the Bridge," but he will never be forgotten. Sadly, Irish Wolfhounds have short lifespans.
One day... I dream of being able to have an Irish Wolfhound. Most beautiful dog in the world. I'll be sure to get one as soon as I manage to wiggle out of this city and own enough land for him and the bee hives I'd like to harvest some day! That's my heaven. :-)
We’ve been absolutely blessed to have had 10 of them. Currently have a Brother and Sister 9 years 9 months. They’re both wearing out quickly and our Hearts are breaking because we know their times are short. However, the Joy they bring is more than worth the pain of their loss. Better to have Loved a Wolfie and Lost, then to never have Loved one at all❤️
I have one irish wolfhound and he is an extreme couch potato! despite his hunting genes all he wants to do is cuddle. And yes, he still is a puppy. he was super easy to train and i recommend this breed to anyone as long as you are able to walk them daily. they are super sweet, gentle, and great for young kids. they are a great first time dog to since they are very adaptable.
Have had 4 IWH's while growing up.Loved each one, great pillow, great for scarying the hell out of a UPS man, and a great friend. The short life span really is tough to take for such an amazing friend.
I lived with a woulfhound for six years- lost her fifteen years ago, still miss her...Never met a aggressive hound- actually the one I lived with went to walk with the wife of the owner (she's around 100 pounds) and the dog looked after HER, never made a sudden movement on the leash, never sprang forward-because she seemed to understand that this fragile lady on the other end of the leash could not take it.
we found a baby dog back in may. he had his eyes closed and was on the side of the street. my girlfriend took care of that baby for 1 month, nights she wouldn’t sleep. he was a little black doggy with a nice white spot on his back. we bottle fed him and would always put him in a box with a heat pad. he started taking small steps, he would tumble sometimes. he learned how to eat kibble. i taught him a few tricks. we ended up naming him Spot. i suspected he was some sort of labrador. eventually i realized his coat felt and looked unique. i did extensive research and found out he was an irish wolfhound ! it’s amazing how everything people say about wolfhounds is true. Spot is such a friendly gentle playful dog. irish wolfhounds are awesome !
Sil Corona why the stinky face bro did your Irish Wolf Hound fart on your face lol hahaha. Anyway theirs no Wolves in Mexico my friend but you can use him to herd your Cattle and protect them from bandidos. Also you could take him up to the mountains to hunt wild boar in spanish their called javavalines.
I have a wolfhound/deerhound cross and he is the biggest Baby, sooo gentle and sensitive, dont have a big house but hes brought out walking/running about two and half hours daily and flakes out at night and YES!! he DOES like to sit on your lap, haha, he turns around and plonks his bum on my lap and faces away from me with his front legs on the ground, its soo funny
Could you give me some clue about the diet your dog had and the amount of exercice he did daily ? I will welcome mine in a couple of weeks and I wish to do my best to increase his livespan
Robert Williams She is the 10 months old , 120 pounds most loveable little poney ! Almost knock me down a couple of times already..... and her handsome big nose is never more than 3 inches far from my hands....specially when I am cooking 😊
My buddy had a big beautiful irish wolfhound and me and my buddy left him for about 6 hours when we came back his recliner was torn to pieces I don't think he was to happy about being left alone.
My neighbors have an Irish wolfhound and they bring her to softball games and everything, (I live in a small town so I see them everywhere) but she is only like 5 months and ig she stood up she would be as tall as me, (5' 5" which is tall for a dog) they are so adorable tho!
they are wonderful & deserving of so much. be sure you have the time to spend with them and IMPORTANTLY THE MONEY TO AFFORD TO RAISE ONE AS HE OR SHE DESERVES!!! mine live for a relatively long time but i feed them 2 lbs of meat along with vegetables at three meals a day. i wish someone genetically "fix" them to live longer.
There's an Irish Wolfhound that is often left outside the front door on my local supermarket, his owner just drops his lead and says stay, and this gentle giant just stands right there. I always give him pets and scratches, he is such a darling and I don't even know his name! He's gigantic too, taller than the dog's in this video even.
we had a WH when I was 7.........he was SOOOOOOO good-we used to go outside, on snow days from school, with dolls or whatever-throw him OUT of his doghouse so we could have a clubhouse-he didn't care-he would just keep sticking his head in, pushing the rubber flap aside to see what we were doing in "his" house..........I would be AT school and the principal would (at least every couple weeks) come find me, take me OUT of class and say "your Mom's not home and your Dog is on the playground at recess-please take your dog home" we used to ride him as a pony..............I wanted to put him in our dog show (I dunno WHY I decided this was a good idea-tiny girl, BIG dog (my Dad is 5"10 and he used to look WAY down on Dad) but, anyhow, being a good supportive Dad-he decided he was going to allow me to learn to WALK the dog on a leash-that would be the first step in me knowing how to train the dog.........one day, we were walking in a field next to our home.......Dad (thank heavens) was about 25 feet in front of us.....all of a sudden-the dog saw some quail............OH MAN..........I just remember my feet leaving the ground and yelling DAADDDYYYYY-and him grabbing me JUST as we went by.........the dog used to catch birds in his mouth-and then open his mouth and let them go-just for the sport I suppose........can you imagine the birds-telling other birds "dude, I thought I was a goner-stay AWAY from THAT tree" GOOOOD DOGS................sadly-our angel only lived 3 years.......we came home from school one day-Mom was at work, Dad didn't get home for an hour yet-we always put our bags in the house and went out to our babysitter (like-who is really going to mess with 2 girls in a pen with a 250 pound, 7 foot tall dog) and we knew he was sick........Dad took him to the vet-vet said nothing was wrong........next day, surprise-Dad was home early........we wanted to run right out and check on our friend/dog/horse/babysitter.....and Dad wouldn't let us go out-made us sit down and crying told us the doggie was too sick to stay with us but had been sad to leave us-and went to see Jesus and would be in Heaven playing and some day we would see him again.................I was 10, I am now 41-STILL one of THE saddest days of my life...........................
Thanks.............my fondest childhood memories were with that amazing dog......he truly was my best friend.....I'm STILL sad that he died.......I do still find comfort in knowing that he is in heaven and I will see him again someday
yep.......best Dog I've ever had.......I would LOVE someday to have another one but-can't afford to feed a horse and for sure don't have ROOM for one but.............BEST DOG EVER.............how many "horses" do you know would get lose-run to the school-just to SEE the kids.....he used to catch quail in his mouth, only to let them GO........just for the sport............and, I know (now that I have grown children of my own) NO ONE would have EVER messed w us so long as he was around..........that was ONE worry Mom NEVER had..............
***** I never understood how breeders could be so bad. Maybe it's because I'm from the south but I got my dog from a golden retriever breeder who's a retired vet, and my cousin is a wolf hybrid breeder, she just knows what she's doing and all around where I come from breeders really treat their pets like their own babies. But what I hate about the south is we have two kinds of people, the ones who see other animals as nothing more than property and get a kick out of shooting a deer in the ass and watching it try to stumble away, and the ones who treat their chickens like family. Now I have nothing against hunters, I hunt, but fuck the guys who get a kick out of torture, just kill what you need to kill and go home you know?
PootisPigeon Maybe you're right. I still want to adopt from a shelter though, because those guys will be euthanized if they're not adopted. If the dogs from breeders are treated well then they are lucky. I love rescue stories. They always make me cry. I want to rescue a dog someday.
serenesista I agree about rescue, but most times you won't find an IW in a shelter / pound for very long. There are lots of nice people (like you:) who adopt these gentle giants right away. A lot of other breeds don't have the luxury of being as wanted. If that makes sense?
Fionn McCool was a boy. His uncle was in the fina, a hunting group in Celtic irealand. One day he was invited to the king with hia uncle. On hia way he met boys playing hurling (look it up if u want) he joined them. He was late. When he arrived an Irish wolfhound was guarding and won't let him past, fionn tricked the dig into opening it's mouth, and drove the sliter (hard small ball) through the wolfhounds mouth. Hope this was helpful! Fionn has many story's!
Love this video thanks... I have an awesome Irish Wolfhound and I have to ask, whenever you google the largest dog breed it comes up with The Great Dane? why is that?
when i was smal we had a irish wolfhound name Fin i am now 70 yr and i never met another dog with sutch a warm karakter when mum and dad went to bed i sneekt down and went to sleep with Fin and there i was found in the morning
I’ve had Irish Wolfhounds for years. The quality of the breeder is key. Cancer free bloodline history and heart health, as well as temperament are the 3 must haves for pups from any breeder. Any breeder breeding hounds with lineage history of heart issues and cancer, should be avoided. The best vet schools in the US have many studies showing that if the hound is not neutered or spayed until around 3 years of age, the risk of breed specific cancers goes dramatically down. Think about that. The hound gets the benefit of all the hormonal changes that come through childhood and adolescence to develop properly and to optimal health. Neutering and spaying in the US at essentially infancy is done because humans are too lazy to prevent pregnancy until the pup is full grown. It can be done easily. Irish Wolfhounds especially need this time to come into full adulthood because neutering/spay as they can have a final growth spurt around the age of 3. We have always waited until 4 years of age before neutral/spaying and none of our hounds have died of cancer and most have lived until around 11-12 years. An excellent breeder, attention to nutrition, growth management and holding off on fixing are all key to a healthy , long lived IW. Don’t get one unless you’re willing to put in the effort. They are a breed that deserves the best.
My wolfhound x deerhound is now 7.The best friend ever.Im 74 and tiny but she and i can walk for miles without her pulling. They are dogs with great emotional intelligence and sensitive, so need to be treated with dignity and respect. My girl is fit and healthy but, like you, i dread the day she goes.It will be a huge gap.Only dog Ive had that came close to my Judy was my border terrier Alf, and he lived to 22.
Tane Gurnick I own an Irish Wolfhound, he's very trainable, but also very mischevious, meaning you should have some tasty treats on hand in case they're not sure they want to listen, haha! They are great with most other dogs (my IW loves the dog park). They do really well with kids as long as they get exposure when they're young. Overall they're calm and gentle, and have very quirky personalities 😁❤❤
Love that breed. But it´s sad that they have average life-span of 6-7 years. I´m not sure how fast they were in the past (surely they weren´t as big before), but they are not that fast. I watched multiple races with irish wolfhounds...they are actually very slow, compared to any other sighthound.
well there is NOTHING you can do to help them :( as she said in the video they will have bone cancer and all that stuff :( same with smaller dogs with smudged in faces they have shorter lifespans as well
BAD INFO! Do NOT feed a high protein diet, they need LESS protein than most. More important during the first ~18mos. is the phosphorus calcium balance. 1:1!!!
+ClassicCutie Yeah, so? The longest living dog was an Australian Cattle dog, who lived for about 29 years, but that breed isn't known for living long lives as such, but yet the dog got known as the longest living dog
Hi ! i have dogo argentino puppies with F.C.A pappers (100% cordoba pure), i would like to exchange for some wolfhound puppy. greetings to all! what a beautyfull dogs!!
First off, grab your head firmly but gently, and pull vigorously until it has dislodged from your own ass. Then please explain how many people have to own something for it to become legendary. Because from my understanding, scarcity is helpful when establishing a legend.
Read up on the history of these enormous dogs they we're brought to the states in early times to hunt wolves out west that were killing calves. It is said you should NEVER train one of these for an attack dog or guard dog. They are truly gentle giants ,Iv'e had 2. BUT you get something this size excited riled up and protective and things could get ugly REAL quick. The sire of my second pup. could hang his chin over an 8' chain link fence looking down on you. He weighed 212 pounds. Plus around 48'' at the shoulder. Amazing dogs.
There are some farmers in KS that use a pack of greyhounds (3) and wolfhounds (2) to hunt coyotes. They (as all wolfhounds) hunt as a pack. The greyhounds run down the coyote pack and the wolfhounds follow up with the kill. Thats how they hunted wolves, as a pack. Not one on one.
Suggie Thames eerrr that’s sagar they were trained to do thousands of years ago. I don’t agree with culling wolves but the dogs today had no part in it.
Not kidding about "an up close look". You stuck the camera up that lady's nose.
Ha! Ya , the narrator is a hot chick but the camera effect is up her schnozz

G Wark I have one
G Wark WE NEED AN UPDATE
One of my favourite dogs.
Really lovely.
Anyone who's ever had one will tell you just how kind, sweet, gentle, and goofy they are!
Irish Wolfhounds are famous in Ireland? Wow, who would've guessed?
I have an IWH. He's a handful, but a lot of fun. Very friendly and gentle dog.

This is what stops me from getting one. I love them but 6-10 years isn't enough. I need much longer ♥
@@becky231 6-8 years, average is 5 years. Lucky if your IWH lives 6 years and super lucky if it hit 7 or 8.
@@biskcuit everyone I've talked to who has had multiple says 8-9 is average, 10 is not that uncommon

My dream is to have the pleasure of being an Irish Wolfhound's human. ☺️
They are so cute. I would literally pay for it to be able to pet one

I want to have an Irish Wolfhound one day and call him Hercules. Couldn’t think of a more fitting name. Inspired by Hercules Mulligan.
Actually, I have a wolfhound, and they are gentle giants. Not exactly the Hercules type. Mine even gets scared of crowds and loud noises
Theron Spatz Oh yes, I’ve heard about that! I meant bc of the size and Hercules Mulligan in the play seems big and sturdy yet kind and gentle.
I have an Irish wolfhound named Ronin... He's sooo tall!
# Colmbiaz I have a wolfhound named Ronan O.o that's funny!
Ironic that name means “little seal” in Irish
I have one too, his name is Tiago, we say hello from Mexico.
please stay there
Lucky! They’re such pretty doggos

They are marvelous dogs, also called the heartbreak dog. Very enjoyable and not too long clip.
EVERYTHING is great in this video! What a blessing, thank you.
This is a great video, please do more!
theres a guy around the corner from me with an irish wolfhound. Gorgeous dog. I think he's a bit older, has a very calm, friendly temperament.
Now, that's what I call "a lot of fur to love and more to hug" :-) Gorgeous!
They are wonderful and beautiful But sadly my Irish wolfhound passed away from leg cancer I miss her everyday.
I have a irish wolfhound shes a sweetheart❤️
I've heard of a place called Ireland but I've never hear of a place called ayerland
Head up north mucker.

I was referring to American's pronunciation of Ireland
Eireann Go Bragh hahahaha
Eireann Go Bragh Haha wow
I love this ! I miss our Irish Wolfhound "Kyle" !! He was so sweet !!!!
Beautiful, Majestic, calm, as I'm the cat person (I was attacked badly by the dog) I felt comfortable, and cool around them.
Thank you for sharing, I miss my Shadow everyday
I'm scared of most dogs but for some reason I've always liked Irish Wolfhounds they are adorable and loyal.

Why?

Ah, but this Breed is actually not from Ireland originally so we can't really say that :P
they are well mentioned in very early Irish history that predates any other, so yea historically they are Irish

She must be from Minnesota.
How strong is an irish wolfhound compared to other giant breeds?
Love that breed. But it´s sad that they have average life-span of 6-7 years. I´m not sure how fast they were in the past (surely they weren´t as big before), but they are not that fast. I watched multiple races with irish wolfhounds...they are actually very slow, compared to any other sighthound.
Wolfhound 30-40mph

Wait I don’t think they quite understand what a sighthound is they were not used to take down wolfs they would just find them 😅
The camera angel though......all up in the woman's face.......a little close don't you think
Also boars and stags
Will pass and get great Dane
Love these dogs, but how can one deal with the fact of knowing that in 6 years or so, that dog will likely become terminally ill? :-(
Wolfy fever, the only bug you love to catch.
who else here has a wolfhound i have one called bella
dragon master does stuff I have one
They are bigger than danes
It's st Stephens green
i have 8
+Michelle Pitts holy geez......how much dog food do you go thru in a month??????
Michelle Pitts your full of shit haha
A Scottish deerhound is a better choice for the family. A sighthound that is the best.pediod.
EQUANIMITY
It is very pity that people do nothing to increase lifespan and health of wolfhounds.
+Ewa Gmiter How could they?
+Ayy lmao nanomachines
SinäLennätKuuhunEnsiViikollaApinoidenRaketillaJokaToimiiIhmisLihalla Cool, thanks :)
They couldn't really increase the lifespan, they're just too big, and nanotechnology isn't that far developed and is just stupid.
well there is NOTHING you can do to help them :( as she said in the video they will have bone cancer and all that stuff :( same with smaller dogs with smudged in faces they have shorter lifespans as well
BAD INFO! Do NOT feed a high protein diet, they need LESS protein than most. More important during the first ~18mos. is the phosphorus calcium balance. 1:1!!!
Well said..
SHIT! I wanted Great Danes to be the biggest dogs in the world! BUT NOOOOO the Irish Wolfhound had to be! >:(
your definition of biggest? because English mastiff is also the biggest dog in the world by weight (and most definitely volume).
I don't care cause the biggest dog in the world of world record was a Great Dane
+ClassicCutie Yeah, so? The longest living dog was an Australian Cattle dog, who lived for about 29 years, but that breed isn't known for living long lives as such, but yet the dog got known as the longest living dog
ikr haha xD i was hoping the IWH woulf be 2nd and GD 1st
Hi ! i have dogo argentino puppies with F.C.A pappers (100% cordoba pure), i would like to exchange for some wolfhound puppy. greetings to all! what a beautyfull dogs!!
Lmao, someone forgot their boom pole, and was forced to use the camera mic.
Too fcking big m8
You are wrong anydog who lived with you is the greatest .
It's St Stephens GREEN, not "park." And wolfhounds are not legendary in Ireland, very few people have them.
First off, grab your head firmly but gently, and pull vigorously until it has dislodged from your own ass. Then please explain how many people have to own something for it to become legendary. Because from my understanding, scarcity is helpful when establishing a legend.
that shit can beat a wolf? wtf...
XCANIS_ MAJORX I have one the biggest and best dog in the world
Yeah, I call bullshit on that too. Mine was 36" and he was a very large IW.
those things kill wolves. I hate them
Suggie Thames eerrr that’s sagar they were trained to do thousands of years ago. I don’t agree with culling wolves but the dogs today had no part in it.
