- This is a field test of the NEXTORCH TA20 Flashlight that is marketed to law enforcement. The light is reviewed and tested with such application in mind at the Arbor Hills Nature Preserve in Plano, Texas. I also considered some EDC and hiking scenarios in the evaluation.
Each output level was tested in a variety of outdoor settings including a test at the end to measure sensitivity of the tail cap switch. The goal was to determine if high motion under stress would cause an accidental full press of the switch.
The tests took longer than expected, so I did not perform the usual summary. In terms of what I might change or add, I'd like a longer tube, perhaps upgrading to an 18350 battery. I'd also like to see the Medium output level raised up to a true Medium, i.e. something about in the middle of Low and High. I'd also remove Strobe from the rotation through L/M/H in Duty mode.
All segments were filmed with an iPhone 14 Pro MAX.

This field test resulted in a much longer video than I had planned, so I skipped the normal summary. The test at the end was intended to measure the sensitivity of the tail cap switch. The goal was to determine if high motion under stress would cause an accidental full press of the switch in addition to showing High mode in the presence of photonic barriers.
I'm amazed with the way you review every flashlight, including this Nextorch TA20, for its potential purpose! As a Nextorch fan, I think the TA20 is good as an EDC/backup light that keeps the "original feeling" of the TA30. Well, there will be pros and cons, but it is what it is, and Nextorch is on the right track!
Thanks. TA30C MAX has been filmed and is in post-production now. Dealing with my Mom in the hospital, though, has put a halt on filming and a damper on post. Please be patient - the new video will be out in a few days. Thank you.
Thank you, Jim😃
What is your current edc light
I have several and base the choice on what I can use for both typical EDC tasks and something I can use in wilderness Search and Rescue ops. The two I carry a lot (at the same time) are the PowerTac M5 G3 and the Arkfeld UV. I use the latter as a night tracking light. I also have a few others that I rotate in periodically. Thank you.
