    We put a dust bath in the run for our six teenage chickens. New topsoil, sand, diatomaceous earth. The first day they ran over to it and pecked to see if it was food but did not go in. The 2nd day I went in the run to hang out with them and feed them some chopped veggies. After eating, one by one, four of them jumped into the box, pooped, and jumped out. If I had known they were going to potty train themselves, I would have added another box with cat litter.

      That funny . Chicken will poop any where. It took mine time to go in . It's normal. They will go in eventually. Most of the time when you don't see it. Just scoop it out it be fine. Thanks for sharing and have fun with your chickens.

You can get it in big bags too at a cheap price. And be sure not to inhale it when pouring or spreading. It also doesn't work if it's wet so keep that in mind.

      Dust bath rake all the old dist bath out you can spread it in the run erea . Get some topsoil Damages Earth and ash mix it up. You can use sand too but you have to make sure is washed play sand. I found mine at a nursery. The one from Lowes is not the right kind. . Mix it up. If they don't have a container you can make your own too. I used before wood post to out line it ,then I filled it up. I hope this was helpful. • @tanjasplace4202
      @tanjasplace4202  2 года назад +1

      To be honest my chicken never had lice knock on wood. I try to prevent them from getting them . If you have a lice problem you need to clean and tread you erea and your chickens. .stopping the infestation to continue. Chicken can get very sick from them and sometimes can even die.
      So I'm trying my best to give them erea where they can go in to dust bath . It's in there nature so maybe if they have them they will go in , but I'm not 100% sure because I have not been in that situation. Damage's Earth is I use in the run and in my coop and sofar it has been working.

    • @Gee5425
      @Gee5425 2 года назад

      They just naturally dig out their own holes. If you don't provide an area for them to do their dust baths, they'll naturally dig giant holes in your yard, and make their own. It's like how a cat's instincts tell it to lick themselves to clean their fur, chickens dig holes in the ground and will lay on their sides kick the dirt with their feet up into their feathers, and use their feathers to move the dirt up their backs to clean themselves off. You can either provide a spot for them with good things mixed in it to help keep them bug free, or they'll dig up their own spots somewhere in your yard, that doesn't have any of the extras like the Diatomaceous Earth that she sprinkled in, or wood ash, sand, whatever to help keep them bug-less. It's just an extra preventative measure, but they'll do it on their own. And they start doing it as week old chicks if they have the opportunity.
