her vocals are incredible
Yeah. Singers and famous all have great voices that's why they are famous
@@awesomethings6124 But unlike most artists she doesn't need auto tune
@@KCoyoteXD I love Raye, but also it's hyperbolic how much people claim most artists need auto tune. It's just not true, but the ones who need it are more memorable for being bad/someone not understanding how they're in the position they are.
@@miaaaaa13so true, apart from Olive Tree 😂
Is my music ok??
She reminded me of Amy Winehouse. I’m glad she’s got over that phase of her life and make such awesome music!
omg yess!!
OMG I said the same exact thing
I immediately Said Amy Winehouse Vibes❤❤❤
They went to the same music school!
she even said that she loves Amy Winehouse and Back to Black was one of the best songs ever written.
She gave us a full song not a quick money grab. She has a chorus, a hook and bridge. She knows her music
Exactly I'm tired of 2min songs which clearly had 2 seconds dedicated by overworked and underpaid songwriters
Facts
Indeed
I mean tbf she started as a songwriter in the industry, it was a matter of time
@@great10toes40Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice do that when they’re together lol
The storytelling, the imagery and the pacing of the song does really make it feel like a movie.
Perfect description

I knew this song had an interesting story so I'm glad Raye finally has the opportunity to speak up about her traumas. She's truly so talented and inspirational!

She's not just a one hit wonder, the whole album is amazing
She had multiple hits before this album; You don’t know me; Secrets; Ferrari Horses, Love me again; BED and more
@@queenofthenight3518 she wrote Bigger for Beyonce
One hit wonder doesn't mean him/her music is bad
that’s not even what one hit wonder means
not what it means...
her voice is so perfect
Fr. I love it
I cant wait for her to perform Oscar winning tears live
She did already with the BBC orchestra
It’s beautiful! And it’s her opener 🔥
Her entire concert is such a vibe! One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to.
@@itsfaith1403 ❤️🙏one second……… running to find the performance
@@charlesdowell1229 for some reason the bbc orchestra performance got taken down but there are other live videos of her at concerts
That's sounds so cool. I'll be in Copenhagen in November! 😀
escapism deserves a nomination for song of the year at next year’s grammys. such a well written piece of work. i hope M21CB gets a nomination for best dance or pop vocal album too!
yessss
Yes
sadly it didn’t
she did get over 5 awards from the brit awards though which is amazing and 101% deserved
The way she’s passionate about her songs.. she looks so proud of herself as she should be
Her entire album gave me such Amy Winehouse and Lauryn Hill vibes and I am absolutely enthralled! The musicality is just next level; the lyrics and how she plays with words to paint such vivid imagery is seriously top-tier. I sometimes pause on tracks that seem too much to handle in terms of its visual because I get taken aback by how vulnerable she has made herself in this album. This makes "My 21st Century Blues" hard to listen to. But this also makes it such an amazing album. I can't rate it enough; it's SO GOOD!
Where exactly are the lauryn hill vibes ?
@@Overyvonne R&B, melodic rapping, emotional verses-these are all Lauryn Hill trademarks. Her album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, was celebrated for its deeply personal songs. Raye doesn't sound like Lauryn Hill, of course. Anyone who says that would be dumb. But her technique and style in singing and writing verses are within Lauryn Hill's lane.
@@stopurmakingmeblush9586 thanks for clarifying because I thought so. Writing style and song format could definitely be compared
theres absolutely no lauryn hill vibes LMFQOAO maybe amy winehouse yes
@@dyingunfinished nah theyre right with their references esp the miseducation.
she reminds me of amy winehouse. the way she talks, her accent, how she describes each lyric, escapism itself, her wordplay. all of that. i wish her the best in her career and with her music
i thought the same thing omg
Yes. Let's hope things don't go the same
Been following her for the last 6 years, I’m so glad to see her grow up from where she came from to where she is and will be going. She’s been through so much even at her concerts she still cries, she deserves the best and everything that is coming. ❤

At 1:56, I was sooo hoping it was “done decision”. That is a perfect breakup line, like that person doesn’t want you anymore and there is nothing you can do about it. Amazing lyrics overall!
Yeahhh exactly and like it fits better too
I like done decision too!!
I agree! I mean technically it is, they just put the lyric as dumb 😭😭
Nah it’s done decision Idc what nobody else says that better.
I kept singing done decision I was surprised when I found out it was actually dumb decision
This is one of the best songs ever, such an experience. Love the lyrics. RAYE truly is genius!!
Right?!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its a rollercoster , you are totally sucked in by her storytelling ...and you end up fully moved!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was messy in 2019 as well. This song hits close because I know exactly what all this feelings feel like. Amazing song, sad but also comforting in a way..
I was messy in 2019 as well!!
Same here. This song made me pull over the first time I heard it.
I’m like 13 and why do I relate to this 💀 it’s like me at 1 am
RIP to 2019 🙏🏾
2019 was definitely my messy year. This song actually describes exactly how my life was back then.
She doesn’t need autotune, autotune needs her.
Edit:tysm for the likes!!!
@raiyning you can’t escape them lmaooo😂
Lmao what
this kinda sounds like an insult tbh
@@n.e999 it’s not an insult 😭
Auto tune needs ME 🔥🔥🔥
Escapism is such a tune I can’t even begin to explain how good it is. It’s so catchy and word play is incredible…
Became a fan overnight because of this song. Super talented, with a great personality.
Also, she's real af.
Me too! I saw the video and I thought she was brilliant! New fan for sure!
I looooooove how her accent comes through in her singing
Same its unique

Yeah it's quite easy if you just sing how you sing and not to pronounce words as american. Alot of people sing like this in the UK
Wow found this song as I was going through a really tough time trying to cope w a bad breakup w substance abuse & I feel so seen. Absolutely adore her.
Hopefully you are now in a better place?
@@m7trf07 I am!
She's a lyrical genius. Her whole album is amazing.
She is super brave to be talking about something so personal and so stigmatized. She's telling us straight about her lowest moments. Nothing but love and admiration for her
Not anyone can make a song artistcaly like this and still make it a hit
She’s so gifted. I don’t think people will realize till later but I see it.
You can tell she’s been through a lot, her album broke my heart. Especially since I saw her in Leigh Anne Pinnocks documentary & have been listening to her for years. I’m glad she’s doing well now 💖💖💖💖.
@@AnneLM20 yes they were talking about how hard it is to make it into the UK music industry as black woman and Raye was talking about how they didn't want to hear her do rnb so she was reduced to collaborating with EDM artists.
So proud of Raye for how far she's come as an artist. This is her time!!!!
i love how honest she is… i’m sure many people can relate when we going through it 😩
👨🏾🚀 Her talking voice is mesmerizing. I’ll sit and listen to her talk all day
This is one of them songs that feel like a whole unforgettable movie.
It's just told with such passion to the message of the song, plus the incredible vocals of RAYE, plus lyrics are off the charts.
Everything about this song is artistic and artful and I find it inspiring, today, in a time where it seems all music is just the same over and over again... you can still find gems in music and meaningful songs that are told in such a slick way. One of the best singles I've heared in a long long while!
Shes so authentic and truly unique with her jazzy voice. Love her!!!!!!!!!!
Emi
I'm a big fan of both Raye and Amy Winehouse and it never occurred to me that Raye would be the perfect person to play Amy in a film. Her singing has great range and her voice has some similarities to Amy's cadence..as well as some of her physical features, similar body language and mannerisms..it's crazy good 😮💕
This is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard in my life.

Its too good
You gotta love her, the lyrics with her vocals are amazing.
her trying not to smile while singing the lyrics is so precious
The lyrics hit so hard when they're explained in detail. Love you Raye ❤
her voice, looks, accent and everything is on point
She is so vulnerable and candid about her feelings in her songs. It is bold and impressive. And she's very talented and creative while doing it.
Yassssss. I stopped everything to watch this. I love Raye. Glad she's getting so much more recognition.
her voice is so soothing
About time Genius had another TALENTED, angelic, good-hearted woman on here. Full of soul, relatability- she’s an icon. A true artist.
Been listening to RAYE for years and years, and I’m so happy and proud of her for getting the recognition she deserves. Listening to this album, she just really reminds me of Amy Winehouse; her raw talent and her playfulness with her lyrics and beats on each record.. off the charts.
This song is literally Genius
I love her unique style the way she exaggerates her voice in the song her charisma blows me away
Love hearing how intentional every lyric is. Great song/story writing.
she's so charismatic, I love her!
I’m glad the world is finally seeing her talent
Ugh she’s gorgeous, her voice is so silky, and she has this bubbly personality though she’s been through so much
Her voice is everything. ❤️
She is so down to earth.. love her even more now ❤
She is a lyrical genius
Music is definitely medicine my friend! Thanks for everything Raye. I’ll see you this summer!
She really speaks some wise words about recklessness. Can't say I've struggled in exactly the same ways but definitely some wise things that anyone in many situations can take away from what she said.
I just LOVE this song so much
A masterpiece.
I’ve heard a song or two before the escapism, but kinda never made the connection. I’m blown away by her talent and I’m so happy that she gets recognition she deserves and I can’t wait to hear what else she’ll write ❤
I am forever grateful that I found Raye - She's art personified. So talented, beautiful and amazing. The world is lucky to have her!
Her voice is stunning!
I love that she prayed to write a good song and thats exactly what happened right after
I saw this on tiktok with someone saying she sounds horrible live, but i saw her on stage last week and i was shocked at how good she is. She gave me goosebumps. She has an incredible voice.
This song has really heavy lyrics and you can feel the feelings through the song. When I sing this song it’s with so many feelings. This is an amazing song and I’m so happy that she got the chance to explain what the song means and what she went through!
she's so lovable and talented. escapism along with her others are so so raw. love you raye!
I've been listening to her for years & her "My 21st Century Blues" album is what I was just waiting for!! It's like a diary. Her diary. I am so grateful and so proud of her...! I love her way of portraying her feelings with the music & specially her voice. Overwhelmingly powerful, IT IS MADDDD

im obsessed with the story telling aspect of this song
shes soo real and not just with her music
This brought me to tears, it does every time I hear the song, because I relate to every damn word, hits home so bad with the self destruction, substance abuse and dark feelings. I’m better now but my heart still holds a heavy place for all those nights, they haunt me man 😢
So relatable even to us older ones. Nothing new. This is the story of many generations. Same experiences, same places, different decades. She’s a brilliant story teller. Wow!
Hearing this song on a main radio station had me screaming because she's been in my Top 5 since 2013 and she deserves every bit of this recognition ❤
“Back to my ways like 2019” That was fire 🔥
