Zola Mbatha is a passionate Attorney, who works in corporate and runs legal clinics in Soweto, to assist people with setting up wills & trusts. She was featured on Newzroom Afrika, to discuss a controversial case about a family that was fighting over a legacy home. We also get to touch on single parenting & my struggles in accessing some of my children.
As an Attorney myself who just started a youtube channel called Attorneys Corner with the aim to educate black people in SouthAfrica about fiduciary practices - I am truly grateful for this episode
I appreciated this episode. I got a rude awakening in 2022 when my dad passed, I found myself remembering that I studied Estate Planning in my Tax sudies more than 20yrs ago. I had to retrieve my books (thank God, I kept them) and get into action and assist my mom since she had no formal education. She was appointed as an executor thru intestate succession bcos there was no will. Talk about a black child that goes to do BCom, LLB, etc these end up being Greek to u bcos u've never heard anyone at home talking about any of the things u are hearing. Black child just perserve one day it makes sense why u had to go thru that journey.
I love Penuel's high-grade way of thinking. Being able to reflect and be honest. His ability to deal with issues and not being boggled down with emotion. Very few people can do this. Keep up the good work.
Yoh kuningi. Thank you Penuel for bringing her. After that interview, I also was looking for her. Currently in the same situation with my grandmothers house in Soweto. My cousin, whose mom has passed away is being evicted out of the house by my aunt who fraudulently acquired a title deed. Without my mom’s concern. My grandma did not have a will and therefore the interstate succession applies. We have been sent from pillar to post and no money for attorney and legal aid is refusing to assist because they are representing my aunt. Wits law school is full and therefore cannot assign an attorney. I once had to lead evidence without even following the proper protocol of the court. Now I just learned that my aunt has opened a criminal case against my cousin. I’m tired because I’m the only one who can source the resources.
This session has been incredibly insightful. Thank you so much, Sir, for bringing such a selfless and remarkable expert, and a heartfelt thank you to Ma’am Zola Mbatha for the invaluable information and the time she has graciously spared.
Let me leave a comment 2 celebrate my homegirl Zola. She is a great human and very intelligent. It's been an honour 2 watch her grow to become what she is. Even the sky is not the limit when it comes 2 her. Her heart will open more blessings for her and people who know her. Much respect...
Zola is a passionate soul indeed. Absolutely proud of who she has grown to become. A very bubbly and warm human being, even from our high school days, don't ever change sisi.
Compliments to the New year Pen I know I can't be a member anymore but I still wanna contribute to the cause! Keep up the solid work This was a really dope conversation to start the year with🔥
This is everything. Thank you so much. Everytime an episode touches you, you're free to contribute in this easy. This means everything to me. Thank you 🙏🏽
I've been putting off transferring our family home into our names, but your inspiring words just gave me the push I needed! After Mom's passing, Dad and us kids need to finalize the transfer since they were married in community of property. Time to get this done and secure our family's legacy!
Thanks Pen for bringing sis Zola. I wish she could come to my small town of Empangeni that's got a lot of rural and secluded areas and conscientise our people in this side of the country. Great episode ❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thobela, pen and team.. and to the guest. I watch your episodes traditionally, but this episode is the first to prompt me to comment in appreciation of the show.. thank you sisi and thank you pen for hosting her... She is quite a vibe, well articulated and does not loose a layman like me in academic lingo.. again, thank you Sis Zola for such information and for your kind spirit and heart. May the Lord bless you and grow you in your professional space and personal space. . Great episode Pen and team. Great show
This conversation has been so informative and healing. So much vulnerability from Zola, thank you sisi for sharing. Your light shines true and you have a healing voice .
Emotional last 30 minutes: First time seeing you Penuel emotional. I hope the two mothers of your kids can watch this and see how it pains you to not see your kids. The main reasons I watch your content is the FREEDOM you give your guest(s) and the AUTHENTICITY. Thanks to Zola Mbatha for an amazing show, and I hope you become a regular guest, and Thanks to Penuel and your team.
Thanks for the chats guys, that was beautiful. Abuti Pen, give yourself grace groetmaan, nobody knows how their lives will unfold to the t. You are the best example in this, your journey will aid as a template for the best way to go about things with far reaching and positive benefits that will outlive you. The key is to do the best you can as you become the best version of yourself, be patient and graceful with yourself.
This woman inspires me as a law student because it highlights how much of this information is often accessible only through lawyers or those with access to legal professionals. However, we all know how expensive legal matters can be.
This was such a sober human interaction. Absolutely beautiful. My highlight is how honest and undefensive the 2 are. I think thats where the barriers to helping the next generation is. For us to be able say, im human, this is where i messed up. Im sorry, please learn from me, is absolute gold. Beautiful interaction to witness
Cha you had a great conversation. The last bit as well. Zolas approach is really good. We hope the mothers find healing and the kids get to grow up know that no one abandoned them.
Thank you so much, Sis Zola, for educating us. Thank you so much, Penuel, for bringing this jewel to us, and she narrated without reservations. Highly appreciated.
Zola Mbatha, I truly appreciate what you are doing (knowledge sharing). Your passion to empower others makes me feel proud to be an African woman.🙏❤👏👏 Well done Penuel for arranging such empowering episodes!👏 Forwarding this to my loved ones.
I really enjoyed this conversation, it’s so informative. Yoh, we really need to understand how the legal system works, especially the importance of estate planning.❤❤❤❤❤❤
Our one problem is we are not together. I listened to Dave Mashabela, I watched Pen's Afriforum visit, I watched the RAF CEO interview and I can tell you, black man you are on your own. Biko told us. Millions get millions kodwa we are still here
Thanks Penuel for bringing this lady to explain this matter of baby mama's. I really enjoy you podcasts and I also learn a lot from this interview with Zola Mbatha. I can this show really touch me as person who raised by single parents due pride of my mother and her mother. And I can tell you I'm also dealing with the same problem where my daughter is being raised by her mother and also having fight with her mother because she use her as weapon to me. But any thanks for every topic of today I learn a lot...👏👏👏🙏
The conversation we didn't know we needed as a people as we start 2025. Shandu was a spectacular guest...Penuel as always never misses 🎯 Vulnerable, Sober, Mature, Intense and Cerebral exchange. Thank you to you both.🖤
Thanks for the wonderful conversation and venting on both sides... You still owe us the family structure and the Dlamini case as u ended up not touching on those. I've watched the Dlamini on the TV, however, I believe there is more that can be unpacked on this podcast. Thanks
Yhoooo Penuel I'm catching feelings as I watch this! My father passed away 3years ago and the family has not even once held a meeting to discuss the estate of my late father. #blackdysfunctionalfamilyproblems
they aren't sitting down because the mean ones have identified the few of the bunch who have ailments and are delaying proceedings because they wait for a few people to either die or give up. You need to play the long game like the rest of us . And my advice is, do take care of your health ( this is the one time you need to make sure everything you eat is 100% healthy" .
I am blown away. Big ups Pen, & god bless your fatherhood. Lalela good topic with Zola, if possible can we have a similar topic but on rural land ngoba the Ndunas are failing us. There is no title deed lapha siyasha ofalakhe.
A bit unrelated, in 2021 i purchased a 4 room in Tembisa and it was one of the most emotionally taxing experiences of my life. It got registered in July '21, was only able to move in, in november '21.
Man's wife passes away in early 70s. Man finds gf. Gf moves in with a 20 year old son. Son raises family in the house. Son dies in 2012 and gets buried there. Son's daughter now in her 50s remains in the house. Man's daughter around 80 now, sells house. Son's daughter demands share of money, refuses to leave because of permit. Community also gets involved because why am I buying a house there if I'm not gonna stay there , apparently I wa only interested in building rooms... it's too long Hlope😂😂😂
I learned a lot in this interview/conversation and I enjoyed it too. Thank you for having her on as I watched the news interview but it was short shem 👏
Proud of you sisi. The way you deal with people and approach your work. Let's get the wills in place guys. Try to make it reflect your wishes. Don't get pushed to have a generic document for a will 😊
