  • Why did we decide on biking Cades Cove Loop Road in the Great Smoky Mountains? Because driving it didn't sound like much fun! Being one of the most popular destinations in this national park has its drawbacks and three to four hour drive around a 11 mile loop is one of them. We definitely encourage you to get there early and bike it if you can. During peak season, the park will not allow vehicular traffic every Wednesday from 8am to 10am.
Some of the places we visited in Cades Cove were: the John Oliver Cabin, Primitive Baptist Church, Methodist Church, Missionary Baptist Church, Elijah Oliver's place, John P. Cable Historic Area and Visitor Center, the Shields Family, Dan Lawson Cabin, Tipton Place and the Carter Shields Cabin
This is the eleventh episode of our Appalachian Mountain series where we took a two week road trip from Shenandoah National Park down the Blue Ridge Parkway and explored the Great Smoky Mountains. From hiking various portions of the Appalachian Trail up to summits and balds, to exploring majestic waterfalls and bluffs and historical mills and cabins deep within Appalachia, we definitely enjoyed seeing the beauty of America's National Parks.

Mom and my dad and the family love Cades Cove. It was my parents favorite place to go. We used to live in NC. So they would travel there every year. Sometimes 3 times a year. My parents ashes are scattered in Cades Cove.

It sure is a great way to slow one's pace to really get a good look at an area...one of the purchases I would like to make in 2021 is a fat-tire ebike...wow, you really caught the fog beautifully! Thanks for sharing....

This past year they kept changing the goalposts for a pilot program, but it’s usually 8am-10am every Wednesday no cars! We started around 7:15 but they opened the gates at 8am unexpectedly. It was still most carless because they go so slow!
