It's nothing to be ashamed of. He used to push a lot of progressive ideas. M4A, taxing the rich, stopping deregulation, destigmatizing socialism, addressing climate change, and more. The panel debates were pretty good because he get good guests. He would bring in people from different walks to share their point of view. HE changed. He saw Rogans Spotify deal and started courting the same audience. He gave up on looking up facts and speaking from an educated standpoint. The show, and I'm talking about Real Time, was interesting for a bit.

    "It's all fake."
    No, it's scripted. MASSIVE difference.
These people are athletes and stunt performers. They train themselves to be able to pull off the moves and take the hits.
Yes, most are pulled punches and the ring is padded. But their bodies get brutalized by the sport.
The dedication and training and skill required to be a professional wrestler is something few people can endure.
Just because the "show" is scripted and the fights largely choreographed doesn't negate the talent and training involved.
They require infinitely more skill and talent to be wrestlers than Maher needs to be an asshole on TV.

And yeah, the hard work and dedication that went into being a professional wrestler is insane. And the injuries suffered were no joke.
It always bugs me when people brush wrestling off as just "fake" without acknowledging that while the whole thing is scripted, that doesn't take away from the skill of the wrestlers.
It's similar to movies, how stunt performers have to take hits, go flying, and all that. Except in wrestling, you don't have wires and padding.

Eventually, it dawned on me that MOST televised entertainment is fake, especially the violence... You don't knock the latest Jason Statham movie for fake violence... You accept that it's fake, get past that, and be entertained...
Once I had that revelation, I joined my friends and became a fan of pro wrestling myself... I don't watch or follow pro wrestling anymore simply because my free time is more limited and I spend it on higher priorities, but I don't knock pro wrestling or it's fans any more.

Is pro wrestling scripted? Yes...absolutely. Are pro wrestlers athletes? You bet they are. The life of a pro wrestler is not easy. Putting your body through that kind of abuse on top of training and travel all year long. I have nothing but respect for pro wrestlers and the life they lead. The matches may be scripted...but it's physicality is definitely not fake.
