    Living Colour - Cult Of Personality Bass Tab + Tutorial
    This Cult Of Personality Bass Tab + Tutorial video will get you started on this beastly tune. For a tune this advanced, we don't have time to do slow playalongs for every section. So instead, armed with our bass tab/sheet music we'll talk through the tune together and I'll play all of the parts isolated so you can get the bass line in your ear.
    Living Colour has a lot of great bass lines and it was a lot of fun to transcribe this tune and present it to you guys. Again, I highly recommend checking out the Transcribe program to aid you in your song learning - • Transcribe! - How I Le...
    Have fun!

    Playing the D in the main riff of this song as the open D string instead of the 5th fret of the A string was much easier for me. Too contorted the other way around. Thanx for posting. Awesome work on an awesome power jam tune.

      +bigchickenfu I play it the same way. Thumbs up if you came to see his take on the chordal parts. :)

      Complete opposite here, saw tabs elsewhere written that way, then found this and for me was instantly more natural.

      5 years afterwards it happens the same for me, but i finally stick with the D on the 5th because of the muting, open strings are more difficult to mute at that speed.

      Little late to the party 😆. Just got through warching the video. I play the open D as well. Also don't mind doing a pull-off to the open D just to change it up.

    This is the hardest bass line I’ve ever had to learn so far. A whole lot of ring finger coordination and crossing of the strings. But I’m gonna master it because it’s a rock standard (and possibly a bass standard lol). Because my hands are slightly smaller than most bass player’s hands, I had to use the open D string as opposed to fretting it on the A string. This got me started so I greatly appreciate the walkthrough and the sheet music!

    • @ZYGTropicals
      @ZYGTropicals Год назад

      You should strive to do it the correct way! It sounds much better too !!! The open D does not sound right.
      And you DONT have to have large hands to play it the correct way. The way it’s originally played.
      Theirs little girls on RUclips that can play it correctly with their tiny little girl hands!😆😆😆
      After you fret the f on the D string, lift up and move closer to the d on the A string and you can very easily fret the d with either your ring finger or even easier, your pinky!!!
      Don’t baby your baby finger, USE IT!!!!!!
      And remember, don’t take the easy route on things, it only keeps you from progressing as fast as you could be. You become a much better player when you push yourself at things until you succeed!!!

    I just happened to look up Cult of Personality tab and then I see your channel pop up. I decided to check the channel out because I haven't seen your videos in a while and then I see this was your last video. I already figured it out but I'm sure the tab is good. I aced Naked in the Rain because of you. Thanks

    You're the man, Josh. I love how you open with stating that this song is hard - it is! I warm up with some Steve Harris runs before I give this thing a shot. Now that is saying something!
    Thanks for all that you do!

    Great lesson, thanks! So I am curious: When you play the main riff, how do you finger it with your right hand? Do you do strict alternating index middle? It seems easier for me to do it Index (low G), middle (F), Index (D), Index (low G), Middle (E), but I don't want to develop bad habits.

    • @joshfossgreen
      @joshfossgreen  8 лет назад +1

      I think I tend to go i-m-m-m-i, makes more sense to me to take the rake all the way through. I wouldn't call your fingering a 'bad habit' though, having a variety of possible RH fingerings is a good insurance policy!

    • @joshfossgreen

      I write all my sheet music and tabs in Sibelius. But it's just a PDF file, should print like anything else, so you might need to troubleshoot on your end.

    I just recently started playing my bass guitar and I’ve been slowly learning to play some songs. I know you’re not supposed to on bass but I’ve gotten in the habit of using a pick, bc I just find it easier, and I can hear myself playing better with it. This song is hard. I can play the main riff decently at a slow tempo but up to speed it sounds like garbage.

    • @oldbridgemaker2094
      @oldbridgemaker2094 4 года назад

      Dude, don't let anyone tell you not to play bass with a pick! Chris Squire, Paul McCartney, Justin Chancellor, Carol Kaye......and many others play with a pick either exclusively or often.
