I was at a concert they had in Cobh Cork many years ago. 18 people were in attendance and they played unamplified ... Honestly the hairs stood on the back of my neck for the 2 hours.. I was so lucky to be there
Many have tried, over the years, but the McGlynn brothers have produced the definitive version here. Just like Paul Brady did with Arthur mc Bride and the Lakes of Ponchetrain and the late Michael I'm domhnaill did with Lord Franklin. Stellar company for these talented lads to be amongst.
Its just a matter of opinion....Natalie Merchant with the Chieftains coverd this song, as did Dolores Keane...search the archives and you'll find many great versions of the Lowlands of Holland..
I managed to catch them live at last in 2022 in Leicester. With the addition of Alain McFadden it was one of the most wonderful evenings I can ever remember.
[Verse 1] The love that I have chosen, I’ll therewith be content The salt sea shall be frozen, before that I repent Repent it shall I never, until the day I die For the Lowlands of Holland have twined my love and I [Verse 2] My love lies in the salt sea, and I am on the side Enough to break a young thing’s heart, what lately was a bride What lately was a bonny bride, and pleasure in her eye For the Lowlands of Holland have twined my love and I [Verse 3] My love he built a bonny ship and set her on the sea With seven score good mariners for to bear her company But the weary winds began to rise, the sea began to rout And my love then and his bonny ship turned withershins about [Verse 4] There shall neither coif come on my head, nor comb come through my hair There shall neither coal nor candle-light shine in my bower mair Nor will I love another one, until the day I die For the high winds and stormy seas have twined my love and I [Verse 5] Oh hauld your tongue my daughter dear, be still and be content There are mair lads in Galloway, ye need na sair lament Oh there is nane in Galloway, there’s nane at a’ for me For I never loved a love but one, and he’s drowned in the sea
Went to see Daoiri at the london Irish centre a month or so back.. Electric. . I took my cousin who fell in love with him at first sight. He was just amazing in front of a small crowd live. I've seen Pink Floyd and so on but I wouldn't swap it. The bit where he did a bore on face b4 absolutely nailing the Galway Shawl was legendary. What a live act. +tip my hat

Yes, absolutely yes. I intended my earlier comment to reply to your comment. It went to general. But yes, I’m just digging in. These lads are fantastic! God I love that zouk sound and the tradition in their voices is almost unmatched today.

Steady on!
Dolores Keane is The Definitive version. Ye vagabonds one is quite good however
I can see the look in that woman's eye, the tears mingling with the salt air on a cool seaport morning.
Absolutely Yes. And so glad for that. I am blown away. Mesmerized by the zouk AND those wonderful Trad, storytelling voices. Wow, I need more…

Absolutely lovely. I've heard this song sung for the last 50 years but have to agree they've really nailed it with this. Such a sweet sound they make.
What musicianship, superb playing the best version of a classic
Their voices and that lilting bazouki....😍😍😍
As near perfection as anyone I've ever heard. That goes for everything these guys do.
Bollocks. They butchered this song.
@euandonald2663 To each their own I guess. Sorry you couldn't enjoy it.
I was wondering where the drone was coming from! He has the squeeze box going with his foot! Brilliant
Such flawless harmony
Outstanding
That sounded great already, but then they started with the harmonies, and like, on my gosh!
[Verse 1]
The love that I have chosen, I’ll therewith be content
The salt sea shall be frozen, before that I repent
Repent it shall I never, until the day I die
For the Lowlands of Holland have twined my love and I
[Verse 2]
My love lies in the salt sea, and I am on the side
Enough to break a young thing’s heart, what lately was a bride
What lately was a bonny bride, and pleasure in her eye
For the Lowlands of Holland have twined my love and I
[Verse 3]
My love he built a bonny ship and set her on the sea
With seven score good mariners for to bear her company
But the weary winds began to rise, the sea began to rout
And my love then and his bonny ship turned withershins about
[Verse 4]
There shall neither coif come on my head, nor comb come through my hair
There shall neither coal nor candle-light shine in my bower mair
Nor will I love another one, until the day I die
For the high winds and stormy seas have twined my love and I
[Verse 5]
Oh hauld your tongue my daughter dear, be still and be content
There are mair lads in Galloway, ye need na sair lament
Oh there is nane in Galloway, there’s nane at a’ for me
For I never loved a love but one, and he’s drowned in the sea
Outstanding

class
A wonderful rendition. Roy Williamson for me is still the singer I picture when I think of this song though.
Wow. That is all.
Anybody else here because of their collaboration with boygenius on THE PARTING GLASS tribute to Sinead O'Connor.

You do not get much prettier than that.
Jesus wept!
Spellbinding
No. I want to play both the large mandolin and the calve squeeze
