Just put one of these back together. Hard to say a bad buy at 1500 if it runs and drives. I'd be checking that head gasket tho. Leaky heads are a big problem with this engine.

I like to get oil changed if only for the reason that you get another set of eyes on the car. If they spot something they usually bring it up. Lots of those kids under cars are pretty sharp at spotting troubles.
