My sibling & I are in this video I’m now in my 40’s . Working in subsidy& ppl don’t like me they think I care too much . They don’t get I’m from the trenches trying to make a difference. Everyone needs to be treated like a human being not a animal. I truly understand west is being conveyed it hurts my heart .
I was there in the late 80s and it was crazy. Shootouts, robberies, murders, rapes. It was all going down. And it wasn't all because of drugs and alcohol. Some people were just wacked.
Damn Ms. Flip hairdo was airing them the hell out!!! I lived in Public housing and she was spot on!! Management and maintenance did not give a damn…. 👏🏾👏🏾💯💯 I love this channel.
I moved in LT in 1980... it was clean when my family first moved there.... over time the times have changed... but also was the best life to grow from... it all was a teachable moment.... depending on the life style u wanted to live.
Makes you ask the question of how far the community has been "developed" or is it the same depressing stats today. The single parent statistic of 50% is likely 75% now and that's a huge part of the problem.
Them hosts lunchin jo.... they remind me of those black people that have no idea what it is actually like to be black in america... or maybe they just went to college and forgot. But you know these guys. Those distant cousins that come to the barbeque and look at all the food funny.... you gotta teach them how to play spades and they drink pink wine.
Nearly half the residents were minors because by that point, sadly, most households were single mothers whose income was based on how many children they had.
Would these same issues be there if a positive male was in your home? Would your lease allow a steady male be allowed to reside in your unit? Does a male help or hinder your rent? Start with easy questions.
They wouldn't get their welfare check then. Those are the rules put forth by the government. They're Marxists. It's been their agenda to destroy the family.
40 years later it's even worse. Public housing destroyed Hempstead, NY by me (mayor at the time thought it would be a good source of revenue, lol) Much of Baltimore looks like Apocalypse, I was shocked when I drove through two years ago!
It’s really not that bad. It has approved especially with the drugs. The drug market is almost nonexistent today. Driving by isn’t enough to judge. Vacant homes are there because they purposely let them homes fall apart. People moved out and they was left to rot. They could have rented the homes but they purposely refused to move someone in.
I wonder how many of those people had a plan to get out of that situation. The lady who was living there for 10 years complained quite a bit as if people should have cared about her or her situation. I’m sorry to sound harsh but life isn’t fair. People like her will raise their kids in the projects and her kids will raise their kids in the projects and so on. If you don’t want to live that life do something different and stop expecting a hand out because no one owes you anything.
She shot herself in the foot by having 3 kids and no devoted partner. Back then they didn't have nowhere near as much programs and help as they do now like for instance free childcare.
Reading your comment, it sounds exactly like that “pull yourself up by the bootstraps” sentiment that a lot of racists like to use when it come to blacks talking about any issue. We don’t know any of her circumstances that caused her to be in that situation living there at that particular time. Maybe she couldn’t afford to live anywhere else on her own income, like many other people living there at that time. Maybe she was once married and was then divorced in those ten years. You never really know to speak on it. It’s just annoying when people wanna speak opinions about others situations and circumstances that they have no real first hand knowledge of. Keep in mind, when many of those people moved into those buildings, they were new and people were very proud of them, but that was before the drugs came and flipped everything on its head. Please explain to me where she was asking for a handout, other than asking for some better quality building maintenance and cleaner living conditions. She even stated how her and a few other residents would use their own cleaning materials to keep the trash area clean, that is a shared responsibility of residents and paid building maintenance. That’s something very basic that wouldn’t have be an issue anywhere else. If she was asking for a hand out, then that must’ve been the case for the majority of the residents who lived there then because what she was asking for the city to do better wasn’t unique to just her. Either way, none of it matters anymore. Those projects are gone forever now, and most of the people who lived there have either passed on, are elderly or are pushing their 40s and 50s now.
Told the young female caller did she have anything new to add because her points had already been discussed! What the hell. Maybe she the reason the show ain't on no more.
That part ! My grandmother lived in Lafayette courts in the 70’s. She had my aunt in 1967 at the age of 19, she moved into Lafayette high rises when my aunt was 2. She meant my grandfather in Lafayette high rises, he was staying with another woman who lived under my grandmother. They then had my father and moved out in 1975. Those young girls didn’t know nothing about running no house properly and they were high and ecstatic off the idea of having their own place they accepted any old thing when it came to maintenance and security. A bunch of young ppl who grew up in poverty and still was in poverty was running those high rises, what did Baltimore City expect ?? Also, this was during the coke era, selling coke in the 1970’s and early 80’s was easy money. Everybody partied back then, so of course drugs too over as well. 50% of it was the residents fault and 50% was the city of Baltimore fault
@James Coleman no 89% are teenagers that are in projects. That's all over the country. Who do you think are getting housing vouchers ,adults? You sound crazy. Only a non FBA was say something like that. White people live in projects also.
Who’s fault is it that the place is /was a crime ridden a sh*thole? The people that live or the people that don’t live there? People that don’t own their place of residence are more likely to not take care of the property and as if they did. You can’t just live in your home, you have to take care of it.
thats because People still cared about they appearance in the 1980s (you didnt see little Black boys with green hair & sagging tight jeans on looking like sissies like in 2023)

I've never seen this but I wish they would bring this show back.❤
I wish I had a time machine…right now 😉
People swear Baltimore so bad now but it has really calmed down. I used to be afraid in certain areas but today I’m not afraid
Lol…300+ murders per year the last 5 years. It’s not that bad? Jeez. What’s your version of bad? 1980’a Beirut?
It was worst ....I couldn't imagine it worst than what I witness living there for one day

Wow I remember these days for real....the PG'S were real.....this was life back then
Nice video
Thanks
13:40 Clearly this lady is gas lighting lol. She's presuming that the residents weren't already doing that smh.
Wish there had been a maintenance worker in the discussion as well. This was a bit one sided.
We Baltimore will be heard 😂

Exactly. Like the resident in white top said, it’s supposed to be a “stepping stone.”
She shot herself in the foot by having 3 kids and no devoted partner. Back then they didn't have nowhere near as much programs and help as they do now like for instance free childcare.

The female host has a bad attitude. She keep cutting them off
She told that man to please get to the point 😭😂😂😂
Selective press. They only want what they want to be discussed. Same as now
Told the young female caller did she have anything new to add because her points had already been discussed!
What the hell. Maybe she the reason the show ain't on no more.
Wowww Thats my Grandmother the light skin woman I was told from my uncle that she was in this video❤️
Is she on Facebook I wanna see what she looks like now, she was beautiful lol
She still is beautiful 😂😂
She lost weight
My ppls used to stay in cherry hill ☝🏾
Who put the trash on the ground in the first place?
54:40 that go's on in 2024. Ppl are paid off to go against their own ppl. Aka Gatekeepers
Where are they now
Who knows
Was this a actual talk show??? I ain't never heard of this.
City Line was a special affairs show (similar to Square Off) that was on in the 80s.
It didn't do much to change anything. Square Off took them off TV.
Damn 89% of residents were under 18. And they will have guys live with them. So teenagers were running the projects. Wow.

Where are you getting your stats from? 4:37 refutes your claim.
You mean 89% were black. Get your numbers right. 89% under 18 doesn’t even make sense a little bit. 🤦🏾♂️
@@brittanykirk2987heck your the correct numbers 4:37

And you mean to tell me this was a year or two BEFORE the crack epidemic hit?!😮😮 Omg!! They were in BIG BIG TROUBLE! Can you imagine?
what is wrong with these hosts??? so shady and judgmental.
The truth is “judgmental”.
Yes! Dude laughing. Lady cutting people off. It’s just a lack of their capability to foster a robust and meaningful conversation.
Different time......the Host's control the show. People today get so offended!

Has public housing changed from back then to now? Nope.
You’ll never fix the issues in these neighborhoods until you fix the human being.
