In regard to the kids and the iPad. Get a set of earbuds and give them one each. Perfect. We do this if watching tv in the van or outside the van so that neighbours don’t have to hear it too.
Hey Simon & Liz, We can’t wait to get to the Flinders Ranges… potentially on our way to WA next year. The funny thing is I was there 40 years ago doing military exercises and we hated it and our infantry sergeant told us all to stop complaining because when you get out of the Army you’ll pay to come back here… we’ll here we are planning it in 2024… Have a great Christmas and maybe we’ll cross paths in WA.
You sound like my missus - she cannot believe I can drive somewhere & describe it after driving there 40 years ago!! She gets lost in our own suburb!!🤣😂 I also believe the Flinders is the most beautiful place in Australia....💘
04:10 A good caravaner, when being followed, will drive as far left as practicable, as is also safely, to allow a potential overtaker to get a view of the road ahead. If you carry UHF and there's a truck up your ass, you can let the truckie know that you'll allow a 'sling shot' on the next overtaking lane. This entails speeding up before the OT lane, the truckie will do the same; then move left and back off. The truck will sling shot past - no more truck up your ass. I have a sticker on the side of my van "you can go fast, but I can go anywhere". My back sticker says "tailgating me, slows me down".
I can't say I agree with you on that. Anything that encourages someone to overtake isn't a good idea, even if your intention is to help them out. As you say, UHF makes a big difference and can help a lot, although most trucks prefer you keep a consistent speed to allow them to overtake when safe.
The memory comment is so true! I remember the geography stuff and hubby definitely can’t remember things two minutes ago but will remember random things from ages ago.
Can you connect 2 sets of AirPods to an iPad? Open Control Center on your iPad by swiping down from the top right corner of the Home Screen. Then tap the AirPlay® icon > Share Audio. To connect the second pair of Airpods, hold the case near your iPad and open the lid. If you have AirPods Max® headphones, simply hold them close to the device. I've never tried but worth a shot. Happy travels and have a happy and safe Christmas and New year.
Yer im the same just hang back and cruise never slip stream tho that means you're to close and if a semi or impatient caravaner wants to slot in theres no room , and yer the weather is strange at moment in SA but im hoping its not 40 degrees days over Christmas holidays like the last 3 years 😢
I tow a 2.8T van with a 2020 79 that comes in at 4.4T with the ball weight of the van on. The 79 has a 4495GVM. I have the Armax turbo and power upgrade. Have it on Sport mode when towing. I mostly tow in 4th, and slip it into 5th on the big down hill runs, especially when there is a headwind. I average between 19 and 23L/100.
Totally agree about the overtaking thing …….. because it can put you and your rig in danger . We had an experience when we indicated to turn right into Robe River free camp (WA NorWest Coastal H’way) just before a bridge and a Ute driver came past us as he thought we were giving him permission to overtake ………. So close it was scary and dangerous . Enjoy Busselton over Christmas ,we are expecting warm to hot weather during the festive season . Merry Christmas to you all .
Good to watch you back on the road. As an ex 79 cruiser owner for 12 years, fit some armrests for the door tops. Only did mine a year before we sold it, makes it so much more comfortable.
Hi guys. I guess you’re in Busselton or getting close. We live in Bunbury so hopefully we can catch up with you while you’re in the area. Be safe. Glenn.
Hi Liz , my husband is exactly the same , his memory for places is phenomenal. Is it because we are passengers that all places blend in 🙃. Once I think about it I remember and photos help
So true! I think it's different instincts. Liz will remember furniture, artworks and paint colours of a house but I will know the floor plan, construction type and position on the block 😆👌
Great your travelling again pleased your off to WA were planning 2025 . Oh and defently get the tune best thing we did to the cruiser and does make a difference to fuel economy. Enjoy guys xxx
Did you drive through Carrieton? That's another nice little town with beautiful old buildings and a rippa little van site that was once the school. Thanks for sharing Goo the 76
Lovely Ep guys in some nice spots, We did the Finders in July 1996 and it rained for a few days turned out to be the worst place in Aus we have ever been to in wet weather with the mud being 20 to 30cm thick stuck on everything and it dried like concreat. Will go back one year when its dry.
Pretty much anywhere on the dirt get's pretty yuck in the wet. We were lucky there was plenty of rocky ground that held it together. Well worth re-visiting.
I hope you get to see some Yellow-footed Rock wallabies, we saw them at Brachina Gorge, Flinders ranges after most of the people had left the area, they had a small nursery group formed which was great to see them as they were on the endangered list. The kids would love it.
This was so good to watch as its the same route we will be taking next year, except that we're going to Willow Springs in the Flinders Ranges. Love that little ghost town, will definitely stop and explore on our way through. Good to see you back on the road doing what you do best. Kerryn
Nah, not me but my partner, she’ll forget your name as soon as you leave but she always knows where she is on the Earth and what direction she’s facing and where she’s been and will also find that thing I just put down.😀
Great ep. Also love the Flinders. Another way to get there is head further along the barrier highway to Yunta and turn left to Arkaroola.through the old gold mining ghost town of Waukaringa. Great drive( well it was last time I drove it a couple of decades ago)
Hopefully the weather turns it on a bit better when you get over to Busselton! We will be in our final stages of trip prep before we hit the road from Dunsbourgh after new years full time so need some good weather!
lol we purchased a really great CAT sleeveless jacket in Peterborough, it was freezing 😂 love reliving our journeys and seeing more with you guys. I reckon you got off light with the Emu, a friend of ours hit a big one head on and it tarred and feathered the windscreen 🤢

@@TheLifestylePioneers I thought about that. I wouldn’t buy expensive ones, I’d buy 2 sets at a time, and make sure they’re coloured rather than black. I use mine all the time and spend half my time looking for them as I could only buy them in black. A removable tether would be helpful, but I haven’t worked it out yet. Obviously 2 sets of headphones would be the go if you could Bluetooth two, or use an adapter for 2 wired sets. Good luck 😄
Great to see you back on the road guys. We did cop some crap weather recently, all over the state! your lucky charm was certainly working overtime on that trip.🍀 Can't go past the Flinders for a top place to be. The little Terowie is pronounced with a cowie 😉.Love your work. 🍻🤗🦆
Fantastic episode, hope you didn't get to much damage from the emu, might be a good idea to get a shuroo or animal deterrent that stick to the bull bar, will definitely put the flinders ranges on the list to do. What would be the best way across to WA from Alice Springs in June/ July should I go across the Nullarbor or go across the Tanami track. Any information would be helpful
No damage at all, we were impressed. I'm skeptical about those deterrents. The Flinders would be a long way round from Alice to WA. That time of year we'd be heading north. We haven't done the Tanami, but it can be rough from what we've heard.
@TheLifestylePioneers yeah might just go across the bottom as will be travelling by ourselves so would only tackle the tanami if I had a second car coming with us.

I crossed the SA border heading west in Feb. this year, pulled up at the same fruit and veg bin place you guys did. Tossed out the few spuds, lettuce, etc. that I had on board and headed to the quarantine station. Pulled up and the young officer asked the usual "any fruit or veg?" Told him I dumped it up the road. He then thoroughly searched the car and every nook and cranny in the van, then just as he was about done he noticed a banana in the sink.(I chuck all bits and pieces in the sink for travel and forgot it was there) Anyway after being interrogated for 45 minutes in the interview room where 5 photos from all angles of said banana were taken and attached to the 2 page record of interview which was to be sent to HQ in Adelaide where my fate was to be decided. It was like a scene from Monty Python. Just for all to be aware I was told if you have fruit and veg when you arrive at the check point you will be fined. So dump it before you get there. BTW after all that I never received a fine.
I would have loved you to leave in the dialogue when you realised you left the Go Pro behind 😂😂😂. Welcome to SA’s weather…..”Ok one day, who knows the next !!!”

A Shuroo would be a great investment, expensive, but they work well in Tassie with our wildlife.
We've heard mixed reports on their effectiveness. We rarely have issues and this is our first animal strike in almost 3 years.
