I like your Aurora reactions - Partially because you don't pause or interupt them, but mostly because you seem to let yourself feel them instead of just studying her technique (which is exceptional). Aurora's music should be felt, it's her magic!

Aww thank you!! I like listening through although I know most reactors don’t so they can monetize. Hence all the pausing through music. I don’t need to monetize I’m just here for the music 🥰

Ashjell, a co-producer, composer and masterful pianist has been a long time friend of Aurora. You have seen him in Once Aurora, the youngest man on the couch in France, the entire Nidarosdomen concert on the keyboards and i believe he was the older of her two male friends in the Nothing is Eternal docco. Askjell composes very avant-garde music. His album is a true work of art, but it is advanced listening and wont please most people as he avoids the melodies and tempo we come to expect in modern music.

@@ashlenamusic The song "Sofia" is about the little girl referenced in the Christine's Radio Festival who asked for a La La La cover by Aurora. You did a reaction to it about 5 months ago. This is a very heartbreaking story, and the song and idea to petition and get Sofia's art into the Louvre was the brain child of Ashjell. Aurora and Iris perform some small vocals in this song and video, but it is mostly Ashell's piano composition and Sofia's story taking center stage. Its worth watching imho, as it brings attention to the horror of child cancer and the need for real research. It also reminds us to remember this very brave little girl from Australia. Thanks again for all the Aurora reactions Ashlena. P.S. The Once Aurora reaction on patreon was the best part of my Christmas. Thanks for that. Love from Australia. G.

@@ledoutofshadow8004 How do you know Sofia was the one she mentioned in Christine's radio festival? Are you guessing, or is it a rumor, or do you know for sure?
I never connected the two in my mind, but the time fits. The radio festival was May 26th 2020 and in the Sofia video, it says she died June 7th 2020, so 12 days after the festival.

Sofia is wonderful, but devastating. I find it so inspiring because it reveals a community of people from all around the world that came together and Askjell was largely responsible.

Sofia is pure beauty especially with the original video telling the whole story even though Aurora and Iris don't sing much in fact Aurora just vocalises and Iris only sings the name and adds her own wispy vocalisations. its a case of less is more!
It is beautiful but hits hard... Its a piece of music that is hard to forget and stop feeling!

Watching reactions exposed me to music I wouldn’t listen too. This is an example and now I’m feeling warm and floating but sad and sorry all at same time. Her voice is like meditation, in a place of Zen.
I agree with the ending is like being with someone you love, in a bubble, then she whispers, I have to go. 😢

Havent even listened yet and Im already Happy. One of Aurora's most underrated songs IMO. Visually it is a piece of Art! If you do Sofia, I am will also have my tissue sitting next to me.
As for the new Album coming out soon, the 3 songs you've heard are on it, but some of them will be very dark. Just letting you know now so you want be surprised.

Askjell (pronounced ash-ell) has produced a number of Aurora’s songs on a few of her albums and is a composer who is also represented by Aurora’s management in Bergen (he is Norwegian as well). You have seen him briefly in the Nidarosdomen concert playing piano (most noticeably in “Through the Eyes of a Child” and “Life On Mars”) and it appears that he is relatively experimental with his music (I really don’t know much of his work) but I think Aurora’s vocals in this piece are fantastic and really add immeasurably to the composition.
I want to again mention a great collaboration with Aurora and fellow Norwegian Sondre Lerche, “Alone In The Night”, which has a wonderful official music video as well as a fan-shot live performance from last year in an outdoor concert in Norway.

Trippy video! Agree the vibe between the “Hall” venue & the intimate one was so completely different - I much preferred the intimate one. Overall, Aurora’s voice is beautiful in all of them - nice to see how a song can change in different perspectives. Thanks for doing all the versions.

This is my absolute favourite non-Aurora, Aurora song. I'm so happy you watched the fancam live performance because it's absolutely amazing. Some days, I even prefer that to the studio ver.
I have to say though that I was a little saddened that you weren't so into the song. However when I think back to my first listen, I too couldn't decide whether I liked the song or not. I actually found it deeply unsettling though I couldn't say why. So I kept playing it over and over trying to find out why it unsettled me and also because like you, I loved the lyrics.
Then after listening to it for the nth time, I realized I was obssessed with the song. It really spoke to me, and the part that unsettled me was because it also felt like it was calling me out somehow. I love it dearly now, of course. So here's hoping that maybe it might be like that for you too.
And I definitely have to disagree with your wanting the song to end on a high note. I love the more muted subtlety of the song, which I think is best demonstrated in the fancam live. There was such an intimacy to the song that ending in a high note would male it less personal, in my opinion. However I do agree that if a club/rave remix of this song exists it would be bomb.

I've been waiting for this one. This song and video are both so beautiful. The lyrics are some of my favorite from Aurora. Be careful with "Sofia". It's devastating. I consider Askjell's music to be a bit cinematic, and I think that's why the song ends the way it does. And the dress Aurora wears in the first live version is just gorgeous. I'm glad you have grown to like "Some Type of Skin". It does get stuck in your head. It has taken a few listens to get used to the new songs, but I always end up loving them in the end.

Yay, you spoil us with 3 today! This song had to grow on me, I will never call it a favorite, but I do appreciate it now. As for the song Sophia, you might want to pass on that, it is a beautiful song, but it was written for a little girl battling cancer. I feel you would be deeply saddened by it because you would empathize so much. Aurora is at the end of the very long song vocalizing and singing the precious girl's name. Your choice, just wanted to let you know, it is a tough one. Thanks for another great Tuesday, they are the best days of the week because of you.

Lovely reaction as always Ashlena❤. "Askjell" is pronounced "A" (as in arctic) shell😊. I totally get your vibe mentionings. The first live version was from the pandemic. A strange time for performances (With the artists being distant and the audience sitting 2 meters apart from each other). The hall (A big medieval stone hall in Bergen) can be well suited for acoustic acts. But not ideal for this kind of amplified performances (too hard reflections and too much "delay/echo"). I guess the song, arrangement and video reflect the rather sad lyrics (I'm lonely because I can't handle the vulnerability of being loved). It kinda reminds me of prog bands like Yes, Supertramp, Marillion etc. But we love your honesty😂. The fan video was from an intimate release concert in London (pre-pandemic)

beautiful song to be loved, I really like it. As for the new album and past albums, every time I listen to an Aurora album I find myself wondering what her best album is. I don't think there is a better album of his, I believe that each album is unique and special and with each listen I always find small details in his music that make me discover his songs in a new light. As for the new singles, the more I listen to them, the more I like them, but I need to listen and assimilate the album in its entirety, as was the case with The gods we can touch, which over time I have learned to love.

it has the same beautiful melody as her previous works and some creativity in the production.
Your Blood is her best produced song in my opinion. those wild drums and guitar and beautiful harmonies.you can't find them anywhere so obviously they are not fast food pop!
