As a copier repair technician of 35 years, and all around fix-it guy, I am amazed at the way he just pulls things apart without laying the part out in order, and then just slaps it all back together perfectly. He must have a photographic memory. Amazing.
I like both formats too, maybe mixem up because the detailed fixes are very helpful for specific toos, but new format gives a more realistic day to day work load. Thanks for talking the time to make the videos regardless the format. 👍
I watched one of your older vids, Dean, and used what I learned to cut off the chucks on both my old legacy 18v DeWalt DCD970 hammer drill and my newer 12v DeWalt DCD706. One had the screw and the newer one did not, but cutting them off worked like a charm. I did manage to cut deeper on the shank's threads than I would have liked, but there was still plenty of threads to screw on and slam home new ROHM chucks on both drills. There's no way I wanted to tear down those transmissions. Cheers! Oh, and as to video formats--I like both the detailed fixes (including insta-fixes), as well as the repair-a-thons. All your content is top-notch.
I actually love the idea to have a day in the workshop type video. Personally I don't mind you being quiet. It gives some good ASMR even if it is by happenstance.
Yeah could deffo watch this format all day long. Found it very entertaining how you switch thing up a little on what content you put out on your channel. Thank's Dean. I also liked and found informative on how you take off a drill chuck on a dewalt, lol.
Great video, really enjoyed it. The highlight was Deans "I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed" reaction to the Frankenstein wiring job on that hedge trimmer 🤣
I’d love to see an annual compilation video of all the weird and silly things that come into the shop that year. The wiring on that hedge trimmer for sure and maybe even the black and decker “stuck” chuck should be on it haha. It could be pre-made to come out on Christmas or New Year’s day. Thanks for a laugh and a good tool repair video.
sir i do enjoy your videos, i got so much passion into power tools and how do they work, their system and their technology. for me to see you break out those tools is knowledge for me and i could watch your videos for hours 😅. keep up the good work sir 👍 from malaysia 🇲🇾
Great format. But pls keep the comments you have on +/- for brands and models as they're really educational. And maybe a short tag on the model numbers -- makes it easier to search.
Thanks for the day in the life episode! Maybe it could have been nicer to have the current time when you start every tool to give us an idea of how long it takes you to diagnose and fix every tool but other than that it was really interesting, especially the Paslode thing!
I've fixed a few friends garden tools with cut cables, I do the exact same with the spit connectors but I prefer to use the C13/C14 connectors as that means you can use a standard kettle lead!
In 1983 i worked with a electrician for 2 months we went to fix a shower in a rented home with one of those Connectors 5A inline and the home owner/renter had fitted it running inside the bath died first shower he had house with 4 children also.:( My friend said the only place for them is a bin. Love your videos and good to see a local on RUclips.
Dean has saved us not only thousands in repair just doing it ourselves but the cost of dropping off the tools we need every day and you might get it back in a month. Unfortunately most of us don't have a shop like his around the corner and have to drop it off at a big chain store.
Great video! I really appreciate how thorough and informative you are when diagnosing and fixing tools-learned a lot from this. Just a small tip though, at one point you showed your key bundle with a flashlight attached. It might be a good idea to avoid showing your keys on camera since they can potentially be copied from video footage. Keep up the awesome work!
@@animal79thecat Not paranoid at all, just cautious. You can actually search RUclips for ‘copy keys from footage’ and see that it’s possible. With over 118K subscribers with many views and people knowing where he works, it makes him more vulnerable. Just trying to look out for others - better safe than sorry!
It's like a Dean video but on speed. A nice variation of tools too. I'm all for the more the marrier, but I can imagine people with less knowledge of tool repairs prefer the detailed repairs. Just switch it up from time to time so everyone is happy. Also that hedgetrimmer lead had me laugh. Thanks again!
I had a loose spade connector on my makita circ saw, dss610 and needed a new battery connector. Well my dad got me one from the car boot for a fiver for parts, got me up and running, cheers dad 😅
I've put a really short cord with a c14 connector on most of my corded tools and have a bunch of long computer/server power cords hanging separately. I can just swap the cord between tools if I need to and nothing gets tangled on the shelf. I'm just a hobby tinkerer so might not be a great idea for professional use.
That DIY repair on the electric cable was shocking!!!! 😁 Seriously though, I can't believe how anyone who would do that "fix" ...... would have enough brain power to open the door to your shop!! It's a very scary world out there if people are "fixing" anything electrical with that method😅
Que loucura aquelas emendas do fio laranja... não sei como não deu curto na máquina. E mandar pra conserto a parafusadeira por não saber usar, foi a cereja do bolo. Abraço
@@deandohertygreaser I do try to preempt the issue and get it right about 85% of the time. Usually bearings, a lead or something worn out. I fixed my neighbour Makita ratchet when he had snapped off a quick release tool in the quick release mechanism. He had said that the tool could be pushed out from the rear but I doubted that would be possible and I was right. I had to drill the tool and use an easy out and a self-tapping screw to get a grip to pull it out. The issue was: The ball bearings that lock in the bit, wouldn't release it because they were stuck. Once I could shake the bit, the bearings fell back and I got the broken bit out. Have you done any broken bit releases in Makita ratchet guns?
You would think a construction company would be able to fix their own tools, at least to some extent. Replacing bearings or armatures maybe not so much, but new cords and brushes should be within their capabilities, no?
It's not about ability, it's about time. They probably can fix their own tools, but can't do it nearly as thoroughly/efficiently as a skilled repairman. Doing so also takes time away from the work they're efficient/make money at be it drywall, paint, framing, etc.
Black and decker machine has no working spindle lock? that's a 2-part chuck - it looks like someone replaced original head intended for spindle lock with a old style split head and forgot it needs to untie it manually?
Cheers for the video Mr Dean loving the format but do whatever you want it's your channel and your the boss man? Only thing bad is when they end I have to interact with the wife then not good 😊 cheers keep safe bro
Wow, the lead for that Bosch hedge trimmer was just classic bodger, absolutely frightening and I've seen this and so much worse on a very regular basis and wonder how these people are still alive.
I've noticed grey electrical tape on several tools you get in. Are they all from the same customer? That Hedge-trimmer was VERY nasty. He should go for a cordless unit instead, he'll live longer.
Bosch doesnt sell that drill anymore. Good. Because a weak tin can DC Motor in an 18V drill is just a joke you expect that motor in a wee 12V drill but not a full size 18V one. Their basemodel 18V drill now is still brushed but has a beefier motor. But that one is still ~90€ tool only. Makita will sell you a brushless one for around 70€ tool only. I find that Bosch only becomes interesting when you go up in price. Their baseline tools arent that good for the money.
I think youd get more views if you cut the lengths down to at most 30 mins.. just have double the content.. and youd have more people watching the full videos.. like this vid being 2 videos.. not part 1 and 2 but 5 tool fix and 4 tool fix.. or whatever.. just food for thought..
Do whatever pattern of video you want dean, you’re the expert, we will watch
Basically what I wanted to say. Keep em coming plenty and cheerfully
I agree!
That's her..👍
I always watch these at work while im on lunch, i love it
That's my favourite format - tool repair marathons. Could watch these daily.

Oh Dean! My favorite intro! “‘Ello Folks! Ow the Hell are yaz?” It’s always a good day when Dean shows up.
The only problem I ever have with these videos is when they end!!!
Keep em coming Dean!
And thank you for all the knowledge. Your an Ace
Loved it Dean. More of this please.
The ultimate video is when Dean replaces the nail board.

Feel free to mix and match, I think we all just enjoy relaxing and watching you tinker, it's very 'comfy'
As long as you post a longer format video per week do whatever you feel like. The 1h videos are definetly the favorites of everyone

Dean Doherty, amazing video dude
Different format, like it, continue on with whatever you have coming in however you want to do it. nice jobs!
The hedge trimmer home repair made me chuckle. Cheers Dean.
People are funny with what they consider a "repair."
If there ever was a candidate for a wireless trimmer, it’d be that guy.
I really enjoyed the new style dean 👍👍👍👍👍

Geez, that guy with the live and neutral wires twisted together. Some people just shouldn't have anything more complicated than a paper bag
Really enjoyable to watch, you differently know your stuff
Great content, no matter the format. I wish my job would solve as many problems per day as this!

Hello Dean, fell free it's your chanel.

42:30 i remember that DeWalt planer from one of your first RUclips videos!
spot on Dean
Hi, Forget the formats. short/long. Be yourself 100%. Do what you like!!!!!!. That is what we want to see. Thank you
any chance you could do a short little bit about how to test switches with the multi meter please ? thanks James

That man doesn’t need to be running a hedge trimmer anyway. lol 😂 I wonder if he’s missing any fingers.
That black and decker drill was the easiest fix ever
LOVING IT!
yoo that last fix is so funny hahahah
I did exactly what you said, put the plugs on backwards grabed the lead and got a very nasty kick!!
Iv done it with bear wires and clamped my fist around them, so I cannot let go. Some Crack 👍
Like it it’s nice for a change
that grinder looks nice ! and wit makita battery
molto belle👍👍👍

31:00 I think that customer is going to be using hikoki nail guns in the nearby future...
That man with the corded hedge trimmer who liked confusing the angry pixies should get a cordless
The hedge trimmer guy definitely hasn't got the brightest bulb. That was a good laugh.
that bosch hammer drill armature can be saved if the combar is recut on a lathe

The hedge-trimmer was brought in because it was shorting out every time it was switched on.
I think a new nail board is in order one of these days haha
The...erm, how can I put this...lad who brought in the hedge clippers wasn't the same one that brought in the Black & Decker drill was he?
Oh man that cord repair!😂
my friend my idol please add chapters to your videos
Any video that you want to do I will watch all the best
I'm sure said in a recent video that you rarely change brushes and yet, you've changed brushes on all the machines so far.
Everyone always thinks every problem is brushes. The problem of only brushes when they are gone.

Dean I fly home all the time from the usa. I don't fill my checked. You need parts brought home let me know. Based in tyrone.
I’m shocked to see how they wired the broken cable, I believe they were shocked too.
On your nieces SDS, the drill bit was smoking and burning....
You say try the simple end first, but I'm not there😁
I’m thinking you need a sandblaster sir!!!
Lmao did he repair his lead with an old light fitting terminal block? Thats too funny, as an electrician i give him points for creativity
Do peeps in Ireland enjoy breaking stuff?
