Saw this tour(I remember Dennis DeYoung's " suit "). Minutes long ovation after this song. Oh, and Kansas was the opening act. Fantastic night would be understatement
I concur! Actually saw this tour twice and it was non-stop amazing! I was so excited they were all together and making beautiful music again. The crowd was insane, too! ❤️
@@jodij6280And they were all smiling and had just released the greatest hits that had the two new songs, “Dear John,” and “It Takes Love,” and we were all so excited that the band was back together! 😭💔 I’m with you. Dennis is such an amazing storyteller and his solo work still sounds amazing.
I saw them perform this during the Kilroy Was Here tour, and Dennis DeYoung's voice and especially his breath control was amazing! He doesn't get enough credit for his unique voice and excellently epic synth keyboard playing - not to mention his writing genius. Styx's only #1 hit, Babe, was just his vocals, and I wonder if JY and Tommy ever resented that...
The first time I saw Styx live was the Grand Illusion tour. They played this song and just like in 1976 I got chills. They also played Put Me On which is my favorite. This particular concert Kansas opened which was mind blowing too.
Yep, saw this 96 tour in Biloxi, MS, and was lucky enough to get autographs from DDY, JY and Tommy Shaw. I've seen them multiple times and they always sound fantastic and put on a helluva show.
One of the GREATEST songs performed even BETTER live. These guys are so damn talented. That was soooooo GREAT. Thank you for this EPIC version of the EPIC song from and even GREATER album Equinox.
Just seen them in our small town of Prescott Valley Az. They still rock hard. I saw them when i was 16,i am now 62. They have always been in my music rotation. 😎
Yes!! I'm always happy to see you enjoy a Styx song. Styx is my long-time favorite band. I saw them live three times in the late '70s and early '80s and was always blown away by their performances. 💙🎶💙 Thank you!! 😁
I am thrilled you reacted to this. I have requested it many times but no one ever reacts to it. I got to see them twice in concert back in the 70s. Love every thing Styx
When I was growing up around 1978, a group of 18-19 year old kids (Witala) from a neighboring town had a little bar band and played this one night in some highway beer joint. They were incredible......just knocked it out of the park. That inspired me as a then drummer myself to learn guitar.
One of their greatest songs! One question: why are these guys not in the Rock and roll Hall of Fame? Snowblind, pieces of eight, renegade, best of times, so many epic good songs. It's a travesty they have not been inducted!
@@Kayjee17 heart, journey, Moody blues, Pink Floyd, Bob seger, the eagles... Just a few examples. All are deserving! But how is Styx not part of that list?
This was from the “Return to Paradise “ tour. They release it as a CD and DVD. Definitely worth checking out the entire show on your own time but my favorite song is Crystal Ball and the live version is great if you would like to react to it. As I remember you really enjoyed the studio version.
On the "Caught in the Act Live" album Dennis holds the last "Moooooooore" 47 seconds.😱 I've had the privilege of seeing them three times. Twice with the original line up, including John😇 and once with Lawrence Gowan. Dennis was better, but they still rock, AND they're still touring.🤩
I'll be back out there in Vegas for another 5 shows at the Venetian Jan 24, 25, 29, 31, and Feb 1st. Come on out or go to a show closer to your home. Yes, Dennis in no longer with them, but it's still a great show. I think you're now ready for some awesome deep cuts: "Man In The Wilderness", "Castle Walls", "Young Man", "A Day", and "Boat On The River".
Now react to a song off of Dennis DeYoungs 2022 album called 26 east volume 1. A song called “A kingdom ablaze” about as good as this and he was 72 when he recorded it!!!
They should have never broken up! I saw back when Tommy joined them and saw the Crystal Ball, Grand Illusion and Piece's of Eight Tours. I mean they were at the very top of their game and owned the Rock world. James and Tommy back on the Crystal Ball tour used to have a lead guitar battle. They would stop the show and Dennis would introduce them like boxers battling against one another.
You need to hear the album version. This was too much of DENNIS grandstanding! I was born in 62 and Equinox was one of my first albums that I bought myself from a "Columbia House" deal in a magazine. Had no idea who they were, I just loved the cover. 😊 They remain my favorite band to this except of course for The Beatles.
I have a music folder with Styx and their deep dives. Then, a separate folder with all the live stuff. From this show. They are like different versions. They both rock !
Oh wow. Your senses have now been touched. Beautiful piece of music.
Has a much impact with me as it did 45 yrs ago. Just gorgeous.
4:40 Dennis De Young can hold a note like Streisand. Not just the length. But the vibrato at the end. Lhm. ❤

I would have loved to see that concert. Dennis is the GOAT!

I was at the tour as well! Just a phenomenal experience. I saw them in 1983 during the Kilroy tour, but I liked this concert much more.

You can say anything you want about Styx, but no one can deny the great song writing, singing, and musicianship. Oh, yeah, that arrangement. YES!

Dennis DeYoung’s voice AWESOME!!!!!
LOVE him!
" If yall didn't think I was gonna rewind to this part, ur crazy" lol. Loved the reaction bruh. Thoroughly enjoyed this 🤜💥🤛
Loved seeing this live version and your reaction to it. Thank you.🙂

Deep dive... Queen of Spades & Superstars. 🔥
I’ve seen hundreds of show… Styx is in my top five… no fireworks, no lasers, no explosions just amazing music for over two hours!!!
This song is a perfect example of why Styx is one of my favorite bands of all time. Saw them just recently on their tour with Foreigner.
Always loved this song! Live is even better!
Love Styx. Always one of my favorite bands. Such talent.

How are they not in the Rock and Roll hall of fame? Its crazy.
That is nuts! Long overdue!!
John Pannozo was such a great drummer. RIP.

Relevant song then and now.
Great song then and now.
I've been a huge STYX fan for over fifty years now.
How topical- " Red, white and blue, gaze in your looking glass; you're not a child anymore."
Indeed.
Had to watch again AWESOME!!!!
For some more of them live check out the Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight concert where they perform both albums back to back it's awesome
on my top 10 ❤
so many memories

@@Kayjee17 and just to add to that the observation: what a great era of music that was!
"Man in the Wilderness" 🎧
Magical performance, so theatrical
Really needs Prelude 12 before Suite Madam Blue.
Saw this performed live in 1979 on the Cornerstone Tour, brought the house down.
Man so underrated!!

Some songs stand the test of time. Alas. This song surely does.
MISS AMERICA LIVE FROM STYX
Great stuff nothing more to say

You should also do a live version of criminal mind with Gowan as lead singer. He filled in really well after De Young had to quit
Also from Alabama the Pierces. A little Stevie..FM..very wiccan, hippie

Should be in the HOF. Shameful
Styx is the best.
Was. lol

@@STYXFRKSPersonal opinion, not without Dennis.
I'm from Montgomery as is Tommy
IMHO the 1st two minutes of this sounds much like stairway to heaven at least instrumentally Theres still lots of good Styx to be done

Check out Yngwie Malmsteen's version of Carry on My Wayard Son! It's an absolutely incredible version.
Can you react to Strategy by Twice 😊
I wonder if you've ever listened to Mr. Roboto?
Domo!
He has.
You still have not done Grand Illusion it seems
Live sucks. Studio is always better. Sing the song right
That’s why I rarely buy live albums. Some are good, but most meh…
Live concerts are always fun. The songs aren't studio quality but the energy is infectious.
With all due respect, this live version is absolutely incredible
Well it's real simple... It says "live" in the description so you can easily make the choice not to watch!
I have a music folder with Styx and their deep dives. Then, a separate folder with all the live stuff. From this show. They are like different versions. They both rock !
