  • We are a family of 2, plus 2 German Shepherd dogs.
    Our washing machine of 23 years finally packed up 4 months ago.
    After research we decided to buy the Bosch Serie 2 washing machine, model number WAJ28008GB RRP £469, their entry level machine.
    Installed it myself, just had to buy an extra length of waste water hose from my local hardware store( B & Q).
    The machine gets used once a week and has proved to be very good and its very quiet.
    Would highly recommend this if you are after a no nonsense washing machine, that drys very well and looks good. No issue with installing it in an open plan apartment etc where there is no space for a utility room(not table to be integrated with kitchen door units)
    Normal warranty period is 2 years with registration. We purchased an extra 3 years from Bosch for £89.
    00:00 Introduction
    01:06 The details warranty etc
    08:29 Good points & bad points from online reviews
    11:24 Let's do a wash then
    15:10 Conclusions, is it any good?

    This is honestly a good machine to pick, but it’s the only Bosch I’d actually buy. Any model above this costs too much and you get features that I wouldn’t find myself using, also a recommendation, wash bedding and towels at 60 or even 90 degrees as 40 can’t kill all the bacteria in towels and bedding. I know that cottons 60 and 90 is a long program but you can reduce the time by selecting speed perfect and then it’ll be a lot shorter! Also the government saying that cold/quick washes are more economical is a complete lie. Cold/quick washes actually use more energy so they can try to get the same results as a long wash so if you want to have a hygienic, clean and economical washing machine, use 60 or even 90 occasionally and the longer washes. Anyway, I hope this machine will serve you well, just like your old Hotpoint 👍

    You should wash towels at 90 and bedding at 60 or 90 otherwise it will kill no bacteria and it will also produse dirt in the gasket as cold wash is not good for your machaine at all just for the expenses of the cycle

      @@gsd32i That's exactly it, it could possibly cause mild discomfort, but it's hardly going to cause any injury, even if you're washing at 90°C! As I said, I like to occasionally put my hand on the glass to make sure the heater is working ok! Otherwise, it looks like a really nice washing machine. I have a Bosch Serie 2 dishwasher, and it's fantastic (apart from a bit of rust on some of the basket prongs). I'll be looking for a new machine soon, so I'll definitely give this one some consideration!

    I’ve always bought Bosch Washing Machines, 9 months ago I bought the Bosch series 2. I’m really regretting it. The quick wash only takes a half load so no time saved there. But the thing I hate most about this machine is the start button is so sensitive! Press it too lightly or too firmly and it beeps twice and won’t start. Sometimes it takes me 10 mins to get it to start. I would swap this washer tomorrow if I could!

      Hi Margaret , our's is going well but I do wish they would all stop using the pcb style switches, give me a good old button that I can physically push in. I have put clear 3m tape over mine to stop the lettering rubbing off. No issues so far and it is a 👍 from me still.

      @@gsd32i I think durabilty is a problem in home electronics and appliances anyway.
      My LED TV is like 15 years old, my laundry machine is some 25 years old, But nabours and also people at the electronics shop already warned me, that I should not expect that again. My fridge breaked down after 9 or 10 years, Repair to expensive.
      Durability puts up a new dilemma. Should I buy a cheap BEKO or Haier which may break down even earlier? A "Throw away machine?" The series 2 are high in my list, because my old Zanussi has only a little volume. The main criteria for me are capacity, price and durability. That's why I was triggered. I did not want any fancy fragile things.

      Hi . I am not at home for a week so I can’t look at mine 🙈 we only use the quick wash function . If u use the other settings and don’t select quick wash then the washing will stew in its own water which takes longer but uses less drum movement = less power= cheaper . This may be what it’s doing ? Try a quick wash

The buttons do require a firm push as they merely make contact with the circuit board beneath them, other than that, its a 👍

    How do you get access to its drain pump? Mine is blocked but I am buggered if I can figure out how to get at it.

    • @gsd32i
      @gsd32i  10 месяцев назад +1

      If it's the same as mine, bottom right on the front of the machine, remove the circular cover by pushing the retaining tab in at the 12 o clock point . This gives access to the drain pump filter, simply turn anti clockwise, may be stiff and remove. be prepared for about 1/2 mug of water to come out, so either wedge a towel under the front of the machine to catch spillage or use 20 pieces of kitchen towel !!! clean the filter and job done. water may be a bit smelly🙈

    • @v8pilot
      @v8pilot 10 месяцев назад

      Many thanks for the reply, However my drain pump filter will not turn - there is obviously something inside the pump preventing it from turning. The only solution I can see is to remove the washing machine top, then the plastic control panel, undo the securing ring for the rubber sea, disconnect the lock, then remove the front panel. After than, it should be possible to remove the mounting screws and extract the pump. (then of course the reverse of all that after replacing the pump). I had hoped it would be simpler.

    • @gsd32i
      @gsd32i  10 месяцев назад

      @@v8pilot just did mine before I replied and it was stiff to turn before it moved . Have you tried pliers ( wrap a cloth around the jaws to avoid damage to knob) to help you . Once removed when you look inside you can view the impeller which pushes water out of machine . Definitely don’t fancy stripping the machine down !

    • @v8pilot
      @v8pilot 10 месяцев назад

      @@gsd32i Yes, I applied force (water pump pliers) and it was clear that the somewhat flimsy knob would have broken had I applied any more force.
      Just now, after removing the front panel, I removed the pump. I found that a 1/16" twist drill was jammed inside it preventing it turning and impossible to remove. Fortunately, in view of the noises coming from the pump, I had ordered a new pump from Bosch which arrived yesterday. I put plenty of silicone grease around the threads and the seal of the new pump as even the new one was not too easy to undo.

    so what brand of washing machine lasted 23 years, was it a MIELE by any chance ?

    • @bertnl530
      @bertnl530 5 месяцев назад

      One needs to look at the number of washes they do. I saw a graphic where 1 x a week is mentioned. Then the machine suffers less then with 5 x a week. I have an old Zanussi. I do an average of 7 x per month, holds over 25 years, now.
      All in all I think that durability is not as good as it was, due to many metal parts are replaced for plastic. And plastic getting hard and breakable over the years.

    Have been using this machine for at least 6 months now using different size loads and cycles. While it is a decent machine there are some major flaws, the first is the timing of the programmes as I have yet to have a 48min wash end in 48mins on average this is 60 - 65 mins There really isn't a quick wash option. The spin cycle is overly long even on the "easy care" and lasts between 9 - 12 mins from the first gentle spins through to a sustained spin cycle then a further heightened 3 min spin, this really is overkill and the power consumption excessive.
