A absolute great review ! what I'm taken aback by is how much you love this music. How much these songs mean to you. Even the art means so much. It's inspired me. I'm a singersongwriter and while I have no ambitions of being a big pop singer, the thought of a reissue of everything I've done.... And people being as passionate about it as you are.... I want that. So how can I get that without all the celebrity bs?
Great unboxing video. You clearly love Kate’s work. I have to agree, The Dreaming is her best album and my absolute favorite..... I was also expecting more. Specially knowing how creative Kate and her team are. They could’ve done better with the packing and the box sets’ designs... I’d like to add that to me, The Red Shoes is a masterpiece. I still don’t get why people don’t appreciate it as much as her other records... I am currently listening to it and dancing to Constellation of the Heart :)
Great video - fully agree on the box design, which is why I chose not to buy the box and go for the individual discs (first 3 albums). That Japanese box set looks visually far superior to the new one, and far more relevant to the albums within.
I'm glad to hear such a dedicated fan taking the time to observe fine details - I agree so much! The fish heads just didn't work for me, and I know that, with all the beautiful visual artwork out there, it could have been WONDERFUL. I especially thought about incorporating the singles artwork into the booklet, or making a spread to represent each song, but alas...
it is usually the record company that decides on design and photographic artwork. Maybe Kate herself had some input but as its a collection of her albums that are predominantly 30 years old or more, then I could see why she would simply suggest using more recent artwork on the box rather than commissioning or creating any new artwork. Maybe in a few more years they will repackage the backlog again only with different artwork. Like The Beatles White album. I bought the remastered CD in 2009, as I did with their entire album catalogue. I have no intention of buying the newest release even if it does contain a lot of unreleased studio material. In its time, I have owned the white album on LP (vinyl), CD, Special 30th anniversary issue and lastly the 2009 release. Indeed, with each more advanced music playing format that comes out I tend to buy Beatles music to play on it first, even though the original vinyl version that I bought in 1977 still sounds as good as any other format that has been released since...(and that is with the addition of 40 years static build-up)
Just purchased The first box set cd version and they have corrected the dark print of Kate's name on 'The Dreaming' to a lighter gold. Great review btw!
My only issue with the vinyl sets is that I would have preferred the original bespoke labels for "Never For Ever" onward. Not so bad with "Hounds" and "Sensual World" since those were mostly text but "The Red Shoes" and "The Dreaming" had images from the album art. The biggest crime is on "Never For Ever" where the shot of Kate in a swan dress on side one is gone. I see that it doesn't feature in the CD artwork, either. Too bad.
The idea of 'Kate' being set out in the style of the 70s EMI logo also recalls one of the Morrissey singles where he'd had the label done in the style of T. Rex's bespoke label but with 'Moz' written instead of T.Rex.
The Dreaming is her best album! I bought the LP yesterday and it sounds superb compared to the standard CD which is a bit harsh. I see what you mean about the artwork. Done by amateurs I take it!
Great ! thanx for the sharing ! Did you noticed that she put The Big Sky - single version on the album, and the original album mix is "lost" or has disappeared ?!...
Any chance of Pt 2 to this Paul? Also would be good to know how these latest vinyl remasters actually sound compared to the originals and various reissues on audiophile equipment, thanks.
I just got all the 2011 remasters on Amazon Prime Music. They sound stunning. These don't add enough added value to get me to pony up. Thanks for showing them though.
Wow! Looks like a BEAUTIFUL pair of vinyl boxes! I too have always wondered if or when we'd see the deluxe 180g treatment accorded to Ms. Bush's vast and incredibly groundbreaking work! Sadly, I can only afford one of them at a time, what with the fact that there are TOO MANY cool box sets, individual reissues and new-music releases already being spit out in my beloved format and not enough bleedin' money to spend on them all at once!
Is there any way to get the remastered CDs without the bad cropping? The vinyl seem to be the best remasters to have, not the CDs. But they're really expensive.
Appreciate the information about the printing issues. Obviously the music is what matters the most, but I think printing errors are pretty disappointing. Also, I don't HATE the fish people iconography but don't exactly love it either. Has there been any word on if they will release these for sale as digital downloads? I would pay for FLAC/WAV versions in a heartbeat.
Thanks for sharing this boxset of Kate Bush,I have most of her music on vinyl & on DVD's.I like her music very much but do not feel the need to spend more money just to see some photography/artwork changes.I feel its a waist of money.what is important is to listen to her music but it's up to you how you spend your money.why buy it if you're unhappy with the changes they have made.
Thanks for the informative review. I've looked on the KB website to see if all the 'B' sides and rarities are include on the extra disc and to my disappointment, there's one track missing - and one of my favourites. "The Empty Bullring" which as most KB fans will know was the 'B' side to 'Breathing'. Why oh why have they excluded this track. I wonder if it was just an oversight, but what a terrible oversight. Whilst the price for the first CD box set is, as you say, reasonable, there isn't a strong incentive to buy it, although I'm sure soundwise it's probably very good. Such a shame that they didn't include an 'extras' disc with this set incorporating all the rarities and 'B' sides from the first seven albums as most of them were released alongside these.
Thank you for the unboxing video. A little too long so I had to skip to the good parts. Today my CD box set has arrived. I would see a few extra pics and liner notes but anyway I find the new digipak releases really nice (I dont like mini lp replicas and boring jewel case packaging - except the super jewel cases, which are cool). The sound quality is superb, especially on early albums you can hear the great difference. Best version of Lionheart yet if I have to mention one. 9/10
I could not agree more.the japanese should have chosen as the way to present the albums in 2018. I have sent an email to Fish People before the release regarding the labels etc and got no reply. Hate these fish people stuff. Missed opportunity.
No compaints about my box. None whatsoever. Noticed a couple of differences between the one I bought and this one in the review, tho': The box in the review has a shiny surface, my one is a distinctly flat matt finish. Also, my box seems wider insomuch as when laid flat there is enough space to put another CD in the box - the space is exactly the thickness of one of the CDs contained therein. I wonder if this review copy is a exactly that - a review copy - and the released item was adjusted for whatever reason? My copy of Part 2 has a glossy box and no extra space whatsoever!

As a Long time fan, I get it, and respect her privacy and retiring. But seriously, Jesus, the least she could have Done was a decent remaster with lots of extras and something new. I've kinda given up being in her " fan club " these days, I Simply don't expect anything new or follow any news or speculation. This release confirms my thoughts, think this is the end of the line; aren't gonna see anything new or interesting from Kate bush. Sad really
It's an unboxing video for physical product after all. If it was a review of the music it could easily just be a download version. I'm disappointed. Didn't want to be, but this is I guess the ultimate presentation of these albums, and face it, it's naff.
@YabaLovesKirsty I've checked it on Discogs. And now I'm confused too! Because it turns out there w a s a vinyl edition of The Red Shoes in 1993, and it was a single album! What still stands is my assertion that almost nobody bought LPs anymore in those days. A possible explanation is the fact that sound quality improves with more widely spaced grooves. Maybe the 1993 vinyl pressing had grooves cramped together too much to sound good. Let's send a petition to parliament to examine this matter.
I have always been a Kate's fan but I am very dissapointed... first with Director's cut. Horrible versions...promoted with an awful Deeper understanding video clip. Then her alive return after several decades but... no dvd or bluray?. Just a return for uk people? Further...all little videos of Before the dawn were banned from youtube? And now...expensive remastered cds? We are all waiting for new music Kate...
I'm on the fence with DC, just have to give it a few more listens, not sure. BtD video stuff was really disappointing agreed. I'm glad of these remasters though, however halfbaked the packaging is. Guess you can't please everyone.
Spends all this time and money remastering her albums only for a botched release, first of all the press release has no mention of the existence of the individual records, we have awful fish people artwork on the ‘deluxe’ CD boxes, spelling mistakes, printing errors, Hounds of Love CD artwork isn’t even correct. Box set of the vinyl that costs £16 more than individual ones and contains nothing to justify the extra cost, not even a book or photos. What a travesty, who the hell manages her marketing. Having said that, thank god the Hounds of Love vinyl is fine, the spot gloss is lovely.
That's about the size of it...still, at the end of the day it's what is coming out of those speakers and I've heard very little complaints on that score. Can't wait to receive my goodies, I've waited long enough.
You say "all this time and money remastering her albums" but they haven't really done much of anything. Never For Ever has a critical error on one track!
It's another cash cow I'm afraid - a bit like 'This Woman's Work' boxed set in 1990. I'm not sure who'd want this - fans have the music already - on several formats - and I'm sure there are out takes and unreleased material out there that real fans want to hear. I don't rally see the point. great review by the way.
The cover art on the front box is crap i love kate but its just stupid and as for the directors cut its a no from me i love all the tracks in there original versions . she should have maybe done the new backing tracks but used the original vocals as her voice has aged i do not see any improvement on any of the tracks self indulgent crap .. sorry kate x
Don't kid yourself this is less about remastering and more about getting cd text for us high end cd users. And it's only just started! Beware! LOL Or atleast be sensible. The albums are just fine provided you have a decent enough player.
paul if you read this: MORE METAL on the blog. some of the most interesting box sets and releases in general come from metal bands, and many of them are mainstream actually! just because you personally like pop music a lot doesn't mean everybody does. most of the bands whose sets you discuss I have never even heard the name of! metal fans ARE largely the people who kept vinyl alive throughout the dire years. example of what you should cover: new mayhem box set www.hrrshop.de/MAYHEM-Cursed-in-Eternity-PICTURE-LP-BOX-SET_1

I disagree. I think he made many valid points and was very fair considering what one is paying for the damn things. The CD packaging is laughable compared to the Japanese editions, can't believe the difference. Excellent unboxing and I look forward to the others.
You deal with it 'mate'. It isn't whining at all not to acknowledge a scathing rip off. If its about the music only then it would be the download version surely. These items were supposedly created with love for Kate's fans to treasure in their hands and keep for posterity. Therefore your argument is meh and slightly cringeworthy. Emperors New Clothes syndrome much?

As a Long time fan, I get it, and respect her privacy and retiring. But seriously, Jesus, the least she could have Done was a decent remaster with lots of extras and something new.
I've kinda given up being in her " fan club " these days, I Simply don't expect anything new or follow any news or speculation. This release confirms my thoughts, think this is the end of the line; aren't gonna see anything new or interesting from Kate bush. Sad really
@@ThomasMoore3 Sad, but well, I will keep enjoying her music!
She gave us incredible music. She made the world a better place.
i have the orignake and this womans work box of 1993 and for me its enough
wow all you do is complain.. dont even talk about how the remasters sound//
He actually did, although not in detail.
It's an unboxing video for physical product after all. If it was a review of the music it could easily just be a download version. I'm disappointed. Didn't want to be, but this is I guess the ultimate presentation of these albums, and face it, it's naff.
@YabaLovesKirsty Because all the music that fits on one CD, doesn't fit on one vinyl record.
@YabaLovesKirsty I'm not sure, but I think it was not released as a vinyl record in those days. CD's reigned!
CD buyers got SCREWED
i dont like the logo on the LP with this fishpeople it was better the orginal issues with drawning
Beware! LOL
Or atleast be sensible.
The albums are just fine provided you have a decent enough player.
What about commenting the sound quality of the remasters instead of this boring endless peroration about what should have been but wasn't?
paul if you read this: MORE METAL on the blog. some of the most interesting box sets and releases in general come from metal bands, and many of them are mainstream actually! just because you personally like pop music a lot doesn't mean everybody does. most of the bands whose sets you discuss I have never even heard the name of! metal fans ARE largely the people who kept vinyl alive throughout the dire years.
example of what you should cover: new mayhem box set www.hrrshop.de/MAYHEM-Cursed-in-Eternity-PICTURE-LP-BOX-SET_1
Massive fan of kate but after seeing this looks disappointing.
Apple
just too expensive mate
I don't know what your talking bout! the cover is enormously cool and creative. just like she is. get some sleep! just play the music.
this box is really disappointing. In case of doubt just copy the Beatles boxes. It wont see my money. Her music on the other hand is amazing.
Great video. Looks like a very underwhelming box set. As such, I won't be buying it. The Fish People concept is entirely out of context and overly used. Disappointing.
Good review overall. Could have edited the forever ongoing whining over rather silly details. Too much blah, blah, blah.
Its just a money grab for christmas ,let be honest.
marie snowfalld lets be honest what wouldnt be a cash grab? If Kate would have released IT for free?
Yeah but does she or her record company have to make it so obvious lol
marie snowfalld Kate Bush boxes have been awaited for years. For me cash grab is what u2 is doing. They released Joshua tree deluxe editions in 2007 and another anniversary edition in 2017. We should be gratefull these boxes were released becouse i dont expect Kate will release another ones soon
Stop moaning about beauty in a box, I’d love this but can’t afford it. Give it a cuddle smell it enjoy if.
The Winy criticisms about boxes, photos and paper are incredibly boring and petty. It's about the music, mate. Also;it's obvious that she's making a statement about not wanting to be seen as opposed to enjoying her hard work as a writer.etc....Deal with it.
@@millietanner56 I agree 1000 percent, it's just as well I love vinyl then. I feel sorry for the CD enthusiast, no fucking way, a massive disappointment however great the remasters sound. Actually quite a shock how these were packaged.
£60 for some shiny packaging? Nope. Remasters are never an improvement.
