    This is the holy grail of great singing. For me, it was so counterintuitive. When I was young I would listen to my idols and their recordings made me think they had these enormously high chest voices. Only later did I finally figure out and realize what they really had were well developed mixes. I still work hard on getting that thick sounding mix.

    In my classical training, this is called the passagio: moving or passing from the lower register to the middle, then moving from the middle to the high. And the siren, just as Victoria says, was the tool I was taught to make those smooth transitions. Thanks, Victoria!

    Whatever you can't do or you think you can't do, do it first in the speaking voice. Once you're successful, progressively do it in the singing voice. If it seems it no longer works anymore, redo it in the speaking voice.

      Thank you, Denis! As you know, I do non-singing exercises a lot, especially based on speech, in the beginning or if someone is having trouble. HOWEVER, this only works if the spoken exercise is done in a way that is conducive to good singing so that you apply it in singing. 🙂

    If I follow, all notes are a mix of chest and head voice, it's not just something you produce in the passaggio. The blend continues but changes in the per cent of chest and head voice as you ascend or descend. Is this what is meant by chiaroscuro - a mix of darker chest tones and brighter head tones? Very good video. Thank you.

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  4 года назад +7

      Yes, I'd say 99.5% of the time unless you are purposely isolating pure head or chest on a note for stylistic purposes. However, many people only refer to mix as the head mix or, as you said, just something to employ at the passaggio. It is the terminology that confuses people. I think my explanation and break down makes it easier to understand and sing. :)

    Omg! Meaning that i was always using the 'Mixed voice' while I'm singing while I'm speaking but bcz of the use of terms these days modern ppl use i got confused n thought 'Mixed voice' is a mystery that i shpuld go n find it like a treasure adventure😁😅but nah, i know now that it's just the system when ur chest n head muscles work together n it's nothing mysterious. Thank u dear Victoria for this ur doin ur best🍀🍀🍀✨🩷🩷🩷💚

    hi, your videos have helped me a lot with my singing, i’m very grateful !! i wanted to request if you can make a video about diet and how it impacts the state of the vocal cords (foods to eat/avoid). have a great day!!

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  4 года назад +3

      Unfortunately, diet affects singers differently. Some are bothered by wheat, soe by dairy products, some by spicy foods (while others live on spicy food). Alcohol and caffeine are known to dry out the vocal folds. As far as the rest, I would say to just be sensitive to what your voice feels like after eating certain foods.

    It seems to me that I am starting to feel this mixed voice with resonance in face area, but it also seems that I have to
    be little bit loud to feel that. I can not sing softly without being breathy, but if i push a little more my vocal folds connect and start to feel resonance. (I have been breathy on my high notes, now i have just started to discover mixed voice and closed vocal fold singing) So is it matter of time for muscles to memorize this closed vocal folds feeling on middle and high notes or do i have to change something? I can connect vocal folds with high volume, but i cant do that softly.

    I believe I have a good handle of cord closure now as I can seamlessly can go up my range from chest to head voice. However, I think my mixed voice is more head-dominant. As I go up to A4 and beyond, it sounds more heady. How do I know when I'm exiting mixed voice and entering strictly head voice?

    • @Victoria-Victorious
      @Victoria-Victorious  4 года назад +1

      A chest dominant mix will have more relationship to speech, whereas head dominant will be floatier. See my video Head, Chest or Mix? CHEST MIX VS HEAD MIX - ruclips.net/video/R8IRVpfgfr4/видео.html. This should help!

    N that we don't always talk in our chest or only head but in our mixed voice. 😃N it's complicated that some ppl rarely i mean speak only in their head. Like for example the 'Mickey Mouse' 😀🖤❤️🐭
