Good on ya for preserving these small pieces of history this way. It's always been the personal stories of war that stuck with me the most; in the WWI memorial museum in Kansas City, they have a small room that's a life-sized, walk-in diorama of the crater left after a shell explosion, and they play readings of first-hand accounts of such shellings. As a sophomore in high school I found this so fascinating that I sat and listened for so long, my tour group moved on without me. Didn't even notice I was gone, lol.
Thank YOU man, you're the best for uploading this. As wild of a time I had in the war I served in, it's incredible to hear what those that came before went through. WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, those people went through hell. Thank you for sharing their stories Sir.
I wish my grandfather was still here to tell his WWII stories, but he passed in 2012 to be with all those friends that proceeded him during the war. Thank you to all of those who have served and those who continue to serve.
Tyrion Lannister the Corgi i feel the same way i wish i was older when my great gpa was alive so i understood what he did and coulda asked the questions i have now
robloxgamer awesome I had my grandfather for 25 years before he passed away and even with all that time I basically had to pry the few stories I have from his time during the war out of him. I think some stories hurt too much to talk about and he was too modest to tell any stories about his war medals. God bless your great grandfather. Almost every man if that generation deserve the utmost respect and your lucky to be related to such an individual, I know I sure lucked out as well by just by being related to such a brave soul.
Memorial day 2021. I'm a grandchild a a veteran from as well. I search and search but there's no records of his stories. I hate how the Korean war is so often forgotten. Was a good man. He doesn't deserve to be forgotten.
I just have to say one more thing here....I normally continue doing whatever I'm doing on Facebook while I listen to these stories. For this one, I couldn't do that. I stopped everything and just sat here and listened the entire time. These stories are about the ultimate sacrifice a person can make for their country and I, for one, am proud to to say "Thank you ALL for your service!" Thanks for these stories Let's Read!
Rip all veterans lost to the world wars, Korean War, Vietnam, Desert Storm, etc. Rip all citizens forced to fight for corrupt governments across the world since 1914 and rip all people who have lost their lives to the War Machine that is the world. Thank you all.
My dad was one lucky bastard. He enlisted in the Marines at 19. Was scheduled to go to the South Pacific. He was a fireman/crash crew for the F4U Corsairs. The planes never made it so they were reassigned to Cherry Point NC. He's been gone 20 years now and I miss him every day.
Thank you for this, my grandpa (who I miss dearly) served as a Marine in WWII in the Pacific theater in Okinawa. Down the road I may share with you what he told me. He would have saluted you for these stories.
My grandfather was in Korea as a sailor and he never spoke about his time in the war until shortly before his passing, after several years of me dealing with baaad PTSD and understanding that shell shock is the same thing I called him and explained it all to him and he opened up about what he'd been through,, a few months later we got a bad diagnosis and 8 months later he was taken from us.. but I'm so happy that the two of us got to share those conversations. ❤️
One of the most interesting videos I've had the pleasure of listening to in a very long time. Great narrating! Thank you to all Veterans past and present.
My grandfather was a medic who landed by boat on the beach in Normandy on D-Day. He didn’t talk about it until right before he died in ‘86. He said the bodies were piled up and you couldn’t even walk through them in places. I’m so proud of him and honored to have my family having a part in that historic day. I don’t think I could ever have done that.

Every Male member of my family has served and is still serving. In ww1 I lost 4 uncles. World war 2, 3 uncles I'm an army wife and having gone through my husband's deployments it's a scary experience. Thank you to who have and are serving.
I'm grateful every single day that my husband made it home from three, year-plus long deployments to Iraq in six years. He was active duty Army. The first, in 2005, was the worst. While he returned physically, it changed him. 💔
I'm from Scotland from a clan that's been involved thats been in every war since the 1100s my dad served in Falklands and Ireland conflicts his dad served in ww2 during d day and my great grandfather was in world war 1 also I'm the first man from my side to not join up my mums side alot of have served too but more in the airforce where as my dad's side was army

My grandfather was in ww2 , the top of his right ear was missing, I remember asking him as a little girl what happened to your ear pawpaw? He'd say a sniper got it, as a small child I didn't know what a sniper was I thought it was a snake until I was a bit older I learned what a sniper is and I cried because if the sniper would not have missed I wouldn't have been born because my mother wasn't conceived I wouldn't exist and wouldn't have gotten to have my pawpaw in my life for 11 years. Rest in peace I wish I could talk to him now. Thank you so much Let's Read for these veteran stories such a special way to show respect. You did a great job telling their stories ♡♡♡♡
My grandfather, who died at 97, the day after Christmas, 2008, never talked much about his Army service during WWII. We only knew he'd been Field Artillery at the Battle of the Bulge. But when he met my husband, a 3x Iraq deployed combat veteran, US Army, Field Artillery, he felt kinship. They had conversations about war, just the two of them. My husband and I have been married over 17 years now, together 19 next month, and I still don't know what he & my beloved papa actually said to one another. This shows me that the soldier- brotherhood reaches deeper than anything I could have imagined before seeing this bond firsthand.

Thank you so much for sharing these stories with us, it was a very touching and eye opening experience. We as a nation owe our present and former servicemen and servicewomen so much and a lot of them have been taken for granted in the past. Hopefully one day everyone will come to realize how much these fine men and women are supposed to mean to the country. Thanks again and have a wonderful holiday season.
Thank you for this upload. My great grandad lost a lung in a mustard attack. Rip to all who lost their lives and to the ones affected with bad i njurys physically and mentally. Brave brave souls. RIP STAN LEE. 😣
i usually dont listen to veteran/war stories a lot because of some standing psychological problems i have from my ex (who was a vet, and lied about being in special forces and in combat... long story short his extensive lies have actually led to me developing panic disorder but i digress). i did actually listen to this whole video and some of the stories on here are just... i can't imagine going through those things or seeing that kind of stuff. i also thought your outro was really heartfelt and i appreciate that you didn't censor these stories (although i'm sure youtube has a different and ridiculous opinion). anyways thank you for this video and for your vulnerability in the outro as i did notice you seemed quite bothered and emotional and for stuff like this i really do appreciate not having the general somewhat "canned" speech at the end. thanks lets read, you've always been one of my favorite narrators and i can’t wait to listen to your next narration
My GREAT grandfather, he joined the Great War faking his age as a child soldier at 15yrs old. I miss him so much. I felt so much compassion showing my child the war memorial from his home town. He lost so much but gave me beautiful lessons for life.
Sadly, I never heard my grandfather's stories of his time in the Pacific. I recall, he tried to talk to me about it on two different occasions when we were alone. Each time, after very long pauses, he opened his mouth to speak and tears began to stream from his eyes. Both times, he never spoke a word before putting his face in his hands and sobbing like a child. It was very painful to witness. We all knew he had hidden struggles brought about by the War but those struggles were always masked by his outwardly kind and loving nature. I suppose, no matter how much time passes, some memories cannot be washed away with tears.
I come from a long line of Army soldiers. My grandfather (maternal side),WWII, my dad, Vietnam, my husband, Iraq x3. They were all FA. I was, in fact, one week away from MEPS myself (NOT Field Artillery, obviously!) when I found out I was expecting my then-boyfriend's and my first child. Graciously, my Sgt relieved me of my contract- mainly due to us not being married yet. We are now and my husband enlisted in the Army when our son was 1-year-old, and we'd been married two months.
My great grandad was in the Royal field artillery in WW1 from 1910-1918 despite being wounded several times by shrapnel and gas he survived. During WW2 he lived in London with my grandad and his family. They never used to go to the air raid shelters during the bombings, his mind set was “if your number is up then it’s up” Their neighbours a few doors down went to a air raid shelter one night and it took a direct hit and they were killed. Another great grandfather was in WW1 with the Middlesex regiment, he and his school mate who he joined up in a pals battalion. Later he saw his friend blown apart. While he was dying in hospital at age 89 he was crying for his friend and kept screaming “get out, for God’s sake get out” My grandad served in WW2 as a combat engineer from 1937-1946. He survived Dunkirk, his haversack harness saved his life as a bit of shrapnel from a Stuka dive bomber hit the brass buckle by his lung and saved his life. Most of the men had dumped their kit to reduce the risk of drowning while wading in the sea. He kept all his kit and rifle. If he had dumped it like most he would have been killed. Later on in North Africa in December 1941 his unit was tasked with clearing some mines a infantry unit had marked for clearing. My grandad was elected to go, but as it was his birthday his mate offered to take his place. Six of them left to clear the mine field, however the Germans had booby trapped it and all 6 were killed. Again my grandads life was spared. I still have the photo of him and his mate sitting on a camel in front of a Pyramid. Whenever he used to talk about this mate in the photo he always got tearful as his friend was killed a few weeks after the photo was taken.
I really can't imagine what my Grandpa and all the soldiers in the Vietnam War must have gone through. It's probably better he doesn't talk about it. I didn't know about that for a *REALLY* long time. He's such a good guy.
@@mywifeleftme8272 The Scottish are British too. The British released a bunch of documents you can search. Give war records a google search and you'll be able to go from there. I was able to find out what happened to my great-grandfather, who was also Scottish. Good luck!
I was adopted by my grandparents and my "daddy" fought in the Korean War. He never talked about it. He would sit for hours with my great grandpa on the front porch and talk about yester year and walking down dirt road in the dark and playing baseball for the mill they worked for and lived on the mill hill. They would talk about their childhoods and the time when the kids and grand kids were born and little. But the war never came up. I never asked cause I figured if he wanted to talk about ti he would. And we have a lot of military in our family and I learned from a young age that war is hell but the war inside when you come home is worse. My hubs is a Navy vet and he talks about basic and the shitp and stuff but nothing past that. Thank you all very much to those who gave all for those they didn't know. I am for one in awe and owe them everything. They are our heroes!
God Bless you all that served. And for getting my Great Grandfather back from France after The Great War, my Grandfather from the Second and all my family that returned from all the other wars. So many wars. May God forgive the Boards of Black Rock and Vanguard.
This one really got to me. I dont think any of our generation knows what our predecessors gave to keep us free. Well this was a small taste of the real blood and grit of it all. Thank you from the bottoms of my heart vets and RIP>
My Grandfather was a rifleman with 3rd Bat 1st div in the Marine Corps during WWII. lost a buddy to a Japanese bayonet right next to him sharing foxhole on Peleliu. Later on after the airfield was mostly in U.S. hands he found that the cooks had been beheaded and their heads placed on platters in the mess hall. They hadn't finished runway and had placed plates of perforated steel over the trench they were planning on later filling with concrete and in that trench were 2 Japanese one of which had a bloodied sword. He shot them both.
As a former Army Infantryman who served as a rifleman during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan I can't imagine the front lines of WW1. But I know what it feels like to be a front line combat Infantryman so I salute the men that paved the way in WW1 and 2 . I always feel I fell short to fill the boots of my brothers N arms b4 me but none the less I put the boots on.
These were all very young men who knew that many of them would never return, and say thank u to the ones who returned to write these stories, and give stories to them men who lost their lives. And to be honest. Because there are so many other stories of things we might not understand. Like the little girl in white or this soldier named mr wright. These are very strange. Reasons that no soldiers were not told about until they faced thses supernatural things happen to them. Thank u so much for your stories. I always wait for the next stories. Oh ya loved to hear about more skunk ape encounters. In the veitnom war.
My great grandfather served in WWI- was a sharpshooter for the marines, fought at the battle of Argonne in France, got an enlarged heart from the mustard gas, came home and became a state trooper. my husband's grandfather fought in WWII, landed on the beach in Normandy, part of the d-day invasion, saw his best friend die right in front of him, was captured by the Germans twice, and escaped twice, the man had zero fear, he died in the 1980s
How can there b evn 1 👎? Wutz not 2 like about all those great stories from veterans -especially the guys in their 80's? Thank u 4 ur service, sacrifice & also 4 taking the time 2 share ur experiences with those of us that recognize & appreciate all that our veterans do & hav done. 🇺🇸🗽
Great stories! I’m pretty sure the angels in the first story were actually planes, it would make sense being that planes had just started being used in combat, and nobody would know what they were.
The wwi vets who were interviewed denied seeing any angels. The Angels of Mons was a story concocted as a morale booster for the allies. Angels wouldn't intervene by taking sides.
Thank you to all our Veterans!

These are great stories for a great holiday.
Love all your videos !!! My daily bedtime routine!! "LETS READ" !!!!!
thank you for your service and for sharing your experience with us. love and appreciate you all. God bless
Yes definitely. We need to hear these. Thank you LR. X
Yesss i been wanting a video like this Forever❤
This is wonderful. Thank you for sharing with us.
Good stuff. Would like to hear more stories like this one.
These were really great stories. Thank you.
I never, ever, want these stories; these accounts, to be forgotten.
Thank you for making this video; what a perfect narration to honor those who served.
My father’s grandfather went through hell in WWI. Supposedly he watched his comrades die beside him in the trenches and kept on fighting.
My GREAT grandfather, he joined the Great War faking his age as a child soldier at 15yrs old.
I miss him so much. I felt so much compassion showing my child the war memorial from his home town.
He lost so much but gave me beautiful lessons for life.
very fitting for the day.thank you lets read
Sadly, I never heard my grandfather's stories of his time in the Pacific. I recall, he tried to talk to me about it on two different occasions when we were alone. Each time, after very long pauses, he opened his mouth to speak and tears began to stream from his eyes. Both times, he never spoke a word before putting his face in his hands and sobbing like a child. It was very painful to witness. We all knew he had hidden struggles brought about by the War but those struggles were always masked by his outwardly kind and loving nature. I suppose, no matter how much time passes, some memories cannot be washed away with tears.
Thank you all for your service-past, present, and future...May God bless you all🇺🇸 Semper Fi Grandpa❤️🤍💙
Ty for the video...it was great 👍
Amazing.. God Bless You All !!!
Your narration is just fantastic.
Same my family goes as far back as civil war ..then ww2 ..and vietnam from my grandpa..i wanna join so bad
My great grandad was in the Royal field artillery in WW1 from 1910-1918 despite being wounded several times by shrapnel and gas he survived. During WW2 he lived in London with my grandad and his family. They never used to go to the air raid shelters during the bombings, his mind set was “if your number is up then it’s up”
Their neighbours a few doors down went to a air raid shelter one night and it took a direct hit and they were killed.
Another great grandfather was in WW1 with the Middlesex regiment, he and his school mate who he joined up in a pals battalion. Later he saw his friend blown apart. While he was dying in hospital at age 89 he was crying for his friend and kept screaming “get out, for God’s sake get out”
My grandad served in WW2 as a combat engineer from 1937-1946.
Thank you for your service Mr. Read.
Incredible stories of heros!
I really can't imagine what my Grandpa and all the soldiers in the Vietnam War must have gone through. It's probably better he doesn't talk about it. I didn't know about that for a *REALLY* long time. He's such a good guy.
I wish that I could have wrote down some of the storys my grandfather had of WW1
If someone could try find something about (William fredrick reid). He was Scottish but he fought for the British I'm pretty sure
@@mywifeleftme8272
The Scottish are British too. The British released a bunch of documents you can search. Give war records a google search and you'll be able to go from there. I was able to find out what happened to my great-grandfather, who was also Scottish. Good luck!
Can you please do true Vietnam war stories vol.3 love them thank you, number vol.1 was brilliant with the music in it, listen to it all the time 👍
R.I.P. to all the men and women that have lost their lives in the war. Bless their families.
Thank God for lets read!!!
Yay u answered my request for war stories :)💕 thank u Joel
To all of you that served in the military thank you for your service God bless you
Exceptional and outstanding!
Fantastic video love speech at end great work
Love the content. Thanks man.
That story about the angels helping the fight was a good one but very curious to find out more details on that one 🤔
YISSS 🦑🦑🦑 (thank you to all who have served)
God Bless you all that served. And for getting my Great Grandfather back from France after The Great War, my Grandfather from the Second and all my family that returned from all the other wars. So many wars.
May God forgive the Boards of Black Rock and Vanguard.
One of the early bois and RIP Stan Lee
This was one of the best ones of all of them
Well done! Thank you!
Damn this is gonna be good asf!💯
A bop ❤️🙏
