I have a minor anecdote relating to this picture, which now makes me CRINGE at myself. During the filming of this I was living in Rome, where this was shot. Anyhow, one Friday night, myself and my flat mate where in the American Bookstore. It had a small video rental department in the back, and whilst means Ralph are looking what to rent, who should walk in but Stallone. He was with a blonde woman, which i didn't recognise.
My friend failed to notice that Sly was also in the store. I thought it was hilarious to call out Stallone movies, which i knew Ralph would hate. Obviously, he was very vocal about hating my choices. He was loud enough for Sly to hear and I struggled to not burst out laughing. In fairness to Stallone, he was a great sport and grabbed a copy of Judge Dredd and whilst handing it to my pal, said "I hear this one is pretty good". My pal was literally dumbstruck and just repeatedly looked at the VHS and then Stallone.
I think Stallone was so cool about it, as he was trying to impress the mystery blonde on his arm. I was only 18 at the time, so that's my excuse for being so cringey.
PS, I've never seen Daylight, but I love Oli's reviews.

One fun fact about this movie is also how Stallone decided to wear a watch from a local, until then unsuccessfull watchmaker from Italy named Panerai. Long story short, Panerai is today one of the most popular premium watchbrands today. One of many examples is The Rock, he wears a Panerai in several of his movies.

Honestly one of my favorite disaster films and Stallone films. I like that Kit wasn't a strait up action hero and at several points in the film you feel for him as he is having to roll with the punches. I will say some of the supporting characters are a touch annoying at the beginning but by the end they form a good friendship with each other. This is a movie I love to watch and normally do a double feature with Dante's Peak

It was nice to see her in something completely different. This was it. By the way, I also love Driven, don't care what critics or reactions to it were, I loved it and have it on German blu ray, although it cost a damn fortune. Also have I See You on blu ray, which is excellent, but I have it under it's D-Tox title, a Scandinavian copy. Might get this too.

This is actually a possibility right now with the Holland Tunnel. There's a plan to reinforce it, and probably replace it. If they can't fully rehab it, they plan on fully imploding it. It's supposed to begin the reinforce project around 2026 and the replacement/expansion in 2032. The tunnels aren't designed to last 100 years without a overhaul.

Bit of a funny story. My mom and I went to see this when it came out in theaters and to the best of my memory this was the only movie I ever saw (when film was still the standard) where the movie got cut off. It was right during a pivotal moment of the movie when the survivors are about to make it out when the film reel suddenly burns or cuts out leaving a blank white screen. Everyone in the theater were given a free ticket to see the movie another time, which we did.
Btw, this is actually one of my favorite movies. It was one of the first disaster flicks I ever watched at the time (other than Twister) and despite its shortcomings I’ve always really liked Daylight. I also remember going to see all the other big disaster flicks brought up such as Titanic, Dante’s Peak, Volcano, Deep Impact, Armageddon and The Day After Tomorrow.

Great review like always. That was Claire Bloom!? The Spy Who Came From The Cold, Limelight, also Doc Martin’s horrid mother from hell. To think Raffaella DeLaurentiis’s father Dino built a rival studio to Cinecitta in Rome during the 60s

Hah! I had no Idea I had a 2 links to this film! I was an extra (SWAT team member) in Sudden Death while still in school in Pittsburgh. Then later when I was working in the model shop at ILM on Daylight helping prototype techniques for shooting the miniature scenes. But was soon pulled to work on Star Trek: FC and later Deep Impact :)

This is the second video in which an actor in their 30s died of a heart attack. I'm in my 30s. *googles "how to unblock your arteries"*

I found a Hidden Gem of a action movie Called Hard Rain in the U.S. and in other countries is called the Flood. It stars Christian Slater Morgan Freeman and Minnie Driver it has very well pace stunts and action almost all of it is done in camera it is very straightforward no stupid side plot or romance.
I was shocked that I never heard of this and no one else has because it failed at the box office with a budget of 70 million and made at a time in the 90s where you see the budget on screen with very little digital effects almost everything is practical! I highly recommend it.

Oh, finally this review ^_^. I'm not agreed that it's forgettable tho or it's just me that I think it's one of the most unique "disaster" movies. You said by yourself there are few volcano movies, few asteroid movies and etc. while I can't think for another movie which plot happens underground, hmm. I even think of the movie very often without a reason, dunno :D

I remember this was one of those times when two movies with almost the same premise come out at the same time. Kinda like Armageddon and Deep Impact, this movie came out with a movie called Hard Rain.

My cousin and I saw Daylight in the Theater, We wanted to see a movie and the only thing we knew about the film was that it stared Stallone. He thought it was a Die Hard Style film and I thought it was a Disaster film. It got no marketing.

I think they should have expanded Viggo's role, making viewers wonder if his course of action was correct. It would have added a competitive aspect of the film. Often a great challenge can replace the need for a villain... adding either plot point might made the movie memorable. Instead, it's simply a good time-killer disaster flick.
