    Great video Stef and an excellent showcase of the Dynasample XO mini. It immediately caught my attention as I have the larger Xpresso.
    That was a super arrangement and very nuanced playing of the various instruments! Not easy to do!

    Nice! The unmuted trumpet seemed to have an especially realistic sound.
    Hoping to get a NuRAD in about a year, to replace my EWI-1000 and will need to decide on a module. Really mainly needing a great, rich saw wave. Not wanting to replicate traditional instruments' sounds, aiming for basically just synth sounds. But this module is still very nice.

    Whoa, I love your arrangement of that Bieber song! Fantastic! About that box, it seems odd to use hardware with such a rat's nest of wiring and a display required. Wouldn't you prefer to run this as a software application or plugin in your DAW, and just plug that wireless MIDI receiver into your Mac's USB port, thereby eliminating the need for all of that other stuff? I have no knowledge or experience with any of this kind of thing, so please pardon such a basic question. I'm mostly here for the music, although this kind of thing is fascinating. Thank you!

    • @StefHaynes
      @StefHaynes Год назад +3

      Thanks a lot Bob! Good question. Using a DAW to host synth plugins etc is definitely my go-to, but I think this box has some advantages depending on use case, etc. Here are some things to consider:
      - This box is great if you can't/don't want to take your Mac to live performances
      - It's also great if you don't have a computer that handles audio well (or if you don't know much about using a computer for audio stuff)
      - Finding software plugin versions of all of the sounds represented in this box would be tedious and expensive (speaking from experience on this one!)
      - You don't necessarily need a display, or even the XO View every time you use the XO Mini unless you need to change settings etc... I should really get a keypad so I can see what it's like to navigate without a display! But it's certainly possible to do a considerable amout of music production and/or performance using only a keypad, a midi controller, and the XO Mini. This somewhat cuts down on the number of cables required.
      Some food for thought! Let me know if you have any other questions

      @@StefHaynes Thank you. I was thinking if you could pre-set everything and carry the absolute minimum to a gig that might be its purpose. The sounds are definitely excellent.

      Bob Sykes, There is a larger version of this called the Xpresso. Still relatively compact but with a good sized screen and display. It has 1/4 inch out, so nothing else is required compared to the mini. I am not sure if they are in stock at the moment. Both these boxes have some great configurable synth sounds also.

      Don’t forget the investment over the years. If this does the thing for you now, it will probably do it in years to come. With a computer setup, most of us are drawn into the never ending upgrade cycle, costing money all the time. All you need is a simple computer or laptop to do the editing. With a computer setup, which I use too, the total setup with a decent, often Apple Mac, computer and sound card and continuous upgrades, it’s definitely another investment on the long run. The XO mini with the additional control unit would be nice in one simple 1U or 2U rack module, so you could put in in a rackbag or case. Everything nicely prepared for easy setup at a gig. Next to that, and I don’t if that’s already possible, a control app for iPad would make it even more user friendly, I suppose.
      Great video and playing, BTW!

      Developers paid more attention to the sound. UI was just for bare functionality for those who know what they are doing, but definitely for an average person. DynaSample is a small company, they don't have enough resources to create a polished UI.
