As an organist, rests are very important. If an organist holds through a rest, it will be obvious and muddy. We need the breath of rests gives the organ music breath and grace. Organists must respect rests. Beauty of the organ blooms.
Sir, I can play the fur elise, the first part of turkish march, first part of fantasie impromptu by memory, as I do not know how to read sheetmusic. I feel like i can keep my fingers curved, but my technique is bad, should I start hanon, czerny, burmuller as you said? Also from where should I learn to read music?
There are prerequisite for those books. If you never had formal lessons, it may be a good idea to go through beginner method books just to make sure there is no gap in knowledge, skills and technique.
Timely video! I caught myself holding notes through rests yesterday in my left hand. I went back to left hand only and counting out loud, and it took some work to fix it, as I knew the part pretty well. I'm new to piano from a singing background where rests are a welcome chance to breathe!
You can treat rests in piano just like rests in voice. Instruments music is imitation of singing after all. So rests and phrase breaks are usually where you would breathe if you were singing it.
Master, I have completed the books you mentioned in your beginner method video, and your intermediate level book ssuch as burgmuller, hanon, czerny,...... I want to pursue serious classical music such as chopin etudes, what should I do next? Thank you for carrying me this far in my piano journey, without your videos I would not be as good on piano as I am now. Thank you
If you completed those, your knowledge and technique should be good to advance to early advanced music. At this point, I choose repertoire for students based on their goal, strength/weakness, interest, etc. I cannot make specific suggestion without knowing you more or seeing you play, but if you are interested in, you can make an appointment for consultation at booking.appointy.com/akirasonlinestudio
Akira sir, I want to start learning, I am 21, so instead of doing alfred 1a, piano adventure 2a,2b,3a,3b , can I do the adult piano adventure course? Will i miss something? I am asking because I felt the alfred 1a, piano adventure 2a were far too easy and I knew most things. So far I only found you who explains how to study piano well
Adult version should be OK as long as you master each concept/skill. I like using regular version for adults, too, because they break down each concept very well and has step by step structure. You get to spend more time on each topic longer, and it's easier to introduce additional topic in some of the pieces. Adult versions tend to progress faster and explain concepts in more mature way.
To say rests are important is like saying darkness or lack of light is important. A rest in music is simply an indication of a period of silence..it's not a "thing" outside of rhythm. Would be much more meaningful to just say "rhythm is important", because rests aren't some seperate special entity.
The contrast of the soldier and lamb was great!
Thank you!

I can see how disregarding rests will be more obvious on organ, as the sound doesn't decay :)
Thank you Sir, keep it coming ❤
