This is where we send EVERYBODY to go listen to that Lil Rob song "La Cantina", which is a Southwestern modern cultural classic!
OK
During my time in the military, I found this to be a fact all over the world: "The best food is often found in the worse bars ". Same goes for street food. The worse the neighborhood, the better the street food.
Yup
I agree. "Ask the taxi driver where he eats" is a good plan.
Yes 👍👍👍✋
I thought the same thing until I was in Puerto Vallarta 🤮 I'm never Hooters ever again 🤣 just kidding I was down there for a long time got a little burnt out on Mexican food figured I would go to something more Americanized in town they had a Hooters and they had a planet Hollywood I figured I'd go get some hot wings yep I got sick guess I should have stuck to the Mexican food
Hole in the wall kind of places. I found some excellent bbq ribs here in San Antonio, Texas. Right on the corner of Pleasanton Road and south Loop 1604 out in the county. They're only there on the weekends.
Thanks Santee, great content as usual! Greetings from snowy Wales! . . Not Josey! Wales in the UK! 😂
LOL!
I also love how the original Star Wars included a cantina scene and firmly established itself as a "space western" (later enhanced by shows like Firefly and The Mandalorian)
Yep
I’ll drink to that! 🍻 btw, loved the Buster Scruggs cameo! 😉
Thank You!
Man...hearing the term "Western Theme Park" brings back memories...when I was a kid and growing up we had "Ghost Town in the Sky" in North Carolina not but 2ish hours away from where I lived..got some old beta max camcorder tapes of family outings there still..need to get those transferred to DVD at some point. Sadly place shut down years ago..there have been rumors off and on of somebody trying to bring it back over the years but they never go anywhere.. sadly there aren't any close to me anymore and the only one I know about is Frontier Town in MD...which is quite a bit out of my travel budget right now...especially since it's a 10 hour drive from my home.
There is Wild West City in NJ that I've been to, but largely they are all gone.
I loved the idea of Cantinas ever since, the song.El Paso by the late Marty Robbins
Yup.
Not sure which one of you vaqueros I was talking about my new shooter giving Me grief but you were 100 spot on !! The cylinder is missing the base pin bushing that the base pin sets in causing it to go out of battery and not be lined up correct with firing pin and barrel I contacted the company and have one coming under warranty I suppose I'm lucky the gun didn't turn into a hand grenade but you shouldn't be able to shake a gun and have the cylinder wobble back and forth I guess now I know why !!
Glad you got it taken care of before there was a big problem.
@@ArizonaGhostriders no doubt Santee no doubt !! I tried cap and ball one time the chain fire that happened was another close call I don't care to remember 😂 I know firearms are just a small part of the settlers settlements on the frontier during manifest destiny ( I call it stealing but potatoe pototoe) but they really did start with humble beginnings with a lot of trial and error success like the peace maker and a few failures like the colt dragoons but come on man it's 2023 not 1873 I would think they would have it figured out by now and stop importing ticking hand grenades 😂😂
Down in the West Texas town of El Paso! Hey, maybe I should build a Cantina right next to my Saloon! The ne'er do wellers need a place to wash down the trail dust too! Very cool video Santee!
Yes, you should. Problem solved!
Thank you very much. Have a blessed weekend.
Thank you too
What would this episode be without "The Three Amigos" & Buster Scruggs? Hahaha. Everyone needs to see both of those. I bet you could make an episode about the Germans in Mexico and surprise a lot of people.
I could. I've met quite a few blonde-haired, blue-eyed Mexicanos with Germanic last names.
We have it here in Portugal is one of so many things we share with Spain! Very cateristic! Good food we have in common has well ! See ya down trail boys!
Thanks for sharing!!
Hey, Marco, I'm sure you recognised the Andalusian cantina with the two "matasietes" at the start of the vid - was from that _brieeeeef_ period of time where Spain and Portugal had actually the same king added to the same food. Hilarious times.
@notfeedy notlazy That was during the Spanish occupation in the end of sixteenth century until 1640 ! In truth I didn't recognize the cantina but I will go to check it out!
@@marcosaraiva9205 Hilariously, not even the only crown Felipe had in a temporal way. Did you know, he was King of England _iure uxoris_ betwen 1554 and 1558? The things you see...
@@notfeedynotlazy Yes ! thru bloody Mary !?
Great skit Santee! Take care and stay safe! Hello to all! God bless!🙏✝️🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks so much
Very interesting! Thanks, Santee!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thank you Santee, I will have to check that Pulque drink you mentioned in your video. Have a great weekend. :)
You're welcome, Jim. Not sure you can buy it off the shelf. It's a viscous liquid that is often found in Mexico. I'm afraid of it, frankly!
Good morning Arizona Ghost Riders. This year I'm hoping to make it just some ghost towns in Arizona on vacation. That is if I can afford a vacation. You stay safe and have a great time
Sounds great!
Great episode Santee! Always interesting to known the history behind things. Have a great weekend!
Thank You!
Santee and Company, YOU DID IT AGAIN... This was informative, entertaining, interesting and kept moving from start to finish. 👏🤠👏🤠👏 buttercup 💛 😂
Thank you, Rhonda!
I need to try mixing mezcal and whiskey now...
NO! Don't do it!!
Jakob, it will burn a hole in your stomach!
@@ArizonaGhostriders Just did... And it is not bad at all really. The whiskey mellows out the mezcal and adds a caramel like sweetnes and roundness to it. I am going to have more of this..!
@@ArizonaGhostriders It is even better as an old fashioned!
25 ml whiskey
25 ml mezcal
5 ml bar sugar
2 dash Angostura bittes
Mix over ice
Garnish with a lime twist
At the end where the video panned past Rosa's Cantina, I heard Marty Robbins in my head!
Great video Santee! Keep em coming!
Yes! Thank you!
I love your videos santee they are great 👍
Thank You!
@Arizona Ghostriders, you are my favourite youtuber. You just make the best video
Santee I'm a cowboy myself and I enjoy watching your videos
Thank You!! Keep on ranchin'
awesome video thanks for sharing👍
Thank You!
I was waiting for some thing from the Star Wars Cantina ...yet even in space those cantinas were full of dangerous, desperate individuals.
Scum and villainy
Thanks for the skit of The Three Amigos made me laugh I've had a long day already. Always enjoy your show and again is always another great episode thanks again for sharing.
Thank You!
Wouldn't mind doing alil drinking and eating this weekend haha, great video as usual Santee
Me either.
I'm surprised, and glad you used clips of one of my favourite spaghetti westerns stars, Terence Hill, from They Call Me Trinity and others.
So good!
Mario Girotti....
@@utej.k.bemsel4777 Yes, I can never remember his name, but almost everyone recognises his stage name.
Amazing video Santee keep them coming
Thank You!
@@ArizonaGhostriders your welcome
Mmm.... Mexican food and booze. I guess in English, Cantina translates into "Heaven." 🤠
HA!
Awesome episode. Never heard of polke (spelling?) made of tree sap. Sounds interesting. Totally agree the best food is at places like this and is the root of real ethnic foods of any locale. I have experienced this all over the world when I was in the Navy. It is like the "soul food" of the country. Will have to check out the territorial town near Old Tucson Studios you mentioned. In fact, I need to check out Old Tucson Studios too! 😊🤠
You should, Jose. I might now a good tour guide or two there....😉
Pulque
Oh pulque! That was that!
As always another fascinating, interesting, and historical study of Life in the “Old West”. Thanks Santee
You're welcome.
Another great episode Santee.
JT
Thank You!
Fascinating, and a closer look at the old west saloons/bars. In the movies, most of the activities in saloons revolve around card playing, drinking whiskey, dance hall floozies, and gunfights. Plus, of course, the requisite fistfight. A nicely done video.
Thank You!
Tequila sunrises for breakfast..
Oh yes.
Once, my Dad and I built a small sailboat, and I named it the Ocean Rose. We christened her with Tequila, Mexican-American and Proud!!
Thank You!
Loved learning about these!! Another great one!!
Thank You!
I am sre many a Soldiers pay went to Cantinas near any Army post. As did mine on my first enlistment.
AH-HA!
Always happy to see Buster Scruggs represented! One of my favorites from recent years.
YES!
Then came Taco Bell! LOL!!! Cool video
HAHA!
Oh boy, I would have been a regular at the Cantina.
Me too.
Another excellent video giving us a taste of the Old West.............thanks Santee 🌵
You're welcome
My grandfathers love of the wild west and Red Dead Redemption 2 will always bring me back here now and then. Love all the content you create
Much appreciated!
Love cantina food!
Great!
I'm italian, from near Venezia, the "Cantina" especially in my grandfather's house is a room, under the floor's house, where we get salami, wine, and other good stuff.. till the mid of 1950 there wasn't fridges, so that's the way they could keep cool and fresh some stuff
Nice
Thanks Santee! Yet another classic in the can... Have a good one!!!
Thanks, you too!
I saw the title on this, and the first thing I thought of was the cantina/saloon scenes from The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. And as I’m watching, there’s the scene of him going in. 😂😂😂😂 Thank you for this video, Santee! I hope you are well!
Pretty much!
Hahaha, someone brought a rock to a gunfight
LOL!!
John Wayne was waiting on a steak at that Cantina in the movie El Dorado (he never got it ). :)
Oh yeah
Another good one pard. I do appreciate you and the men and women who are ghost riders.
Thank You!
Seriously Santee, I dont know how you come up with fresh content or content I have not thought of. HAHAHA. Very cool my friend. Stay safe. 👍👍👍
I appreciate that!
Gracias mi Amigo!
Thank You!
Nothing like being educated with a little humor. You have mastered it.
Never had it but pulque sounds like it would be a little rough going down.
I imagine it would be "viscous"
Thanks for the compliment
Cantina scenes always make me want beans and tortillas
Hmmm....
You didn't mention Rosie's Cantina, which was at the center of the epic ballad, El Paso, sung by Marty Robbins.
Didn't need to, because I SHOWED Rosa's Cantina.
@@ArizonaGhostriders Noted.
Outstanding.
Much appreciated.
Another great episode, and it got me to thinking about food. There were all sorts of places where you could get a bite to eat, some larger than others. What was a commercial kitchen like in the old west?
Great question. I will see what I can find out!
Two Thumbs Up, another great video👍👍
Thanks for the visit
Another excellent video, Santee! All my ancestor never mentioned a cantenia, he did mention in the places he stayed at, there were places children weren't allowed to go near, and were full of men. One time he tried to have a look inside, and was chased away forcefully. Men were stationed around the entrance and rear. Very excellent video Santee!
Thanks for sharing!
This was a plethora of great information...... Jefe, what is a plethora?
HAHAH! I would like to think that a person would not say he has a plethora, when he has no idea what a plethora is!
I always enjoy the videos on here.
Glad you like them!
Fun and informative. I like rye. I need to watch that movie again. Three Friends.
Thanks!
Another awesome video!
Thanks!
Ah, the Cantina! They're still around in various places where folks from south of the border can congregate, drink and eat real food from down home. A few years ago while teaching a CPR class to the Coast Guard Auxiliary we broke for lunch.
Where to for lunch? I was pointed to the boarded up convenience store next door with a sign that said The Happy Donkey. That placed is closed I said. Oh no it is not I was told.
So I walk in and thought I'd stepped into a local's drinking establishment in Tijuana. O.K., when in Rome, do as the Romans and be very respectful of other cultures and communities.
On the other hand, I'm walking in with four gentleman dressed in blue fatigues and bloused boots. Crap, they're going to think we're ICE and poison our food! But, all was well and the food was very good at the Happy Donkey, a modern Cantina.
HAHAHA!
I've been to the Cabo Wabo Cantina when Van Halen Owned it
Cool!
Awesome video Santee! Looks like Rex had some fun!😅 me personally, I'd be a cantina type guy.
Totally!
I went to old Mexico back in 1992. While there I visited a Cantina for a couple of hours and have to say it was a nice place back then.
Nice
🎯🏆👏👍!!! As always!… Still gotta 😂- cause I’ve heard many various ‘Stories’ ; Liquor 🥃 was WAAAYY Cleaner & Safer to Drink than Water! And the 🥙🌮🫔!!! Found out through my Family’s past Wild West Lineage- with THEIR limited Food choices- it’s why Today I have a GREAT Immune System!!! ( ever eat the South-Bound End of a North-Bound Skunk wrapped in a Tortilla?!? ‘Dems Good Eats!!! ) Thanks again A.G.!!
Yeah, but they knew that liquor was no substitute for water. Especially out here in the Southwest. No water=dehydration and death.
Purdy neat stuff sir. Have a good weekend
Thanks, you too!
Another good one. Thank you
Thanks for listening
Great video señor Santee
Si!
So very informatively interesting, and inspiring video, I really liked and enjoyed it.
Great job and well done keep up the great work, I learned a lot about cantinas in the old west.
I got a ton of inspiration for the old West inspired interactive fiction/unfiction story/series I’m working on writing.
My old West inspired story/series is going to be a FPS (first person shooter)action adventure game in book form, it’s basically a game book of sorts.
I’m definitely going to be adding a cantina and saloon to my story.
Thank You! 🤠
@@ArizonaGhostriders thanks and your welcome 💕🌟😎❤️
Great information, Santee! Thank goodness the rules have changed as Miss Kitty will be bellyin’ up to the Blue Iguana Cantina next week.
Fingers crossed!
Loved it
Thank You!
It may be time to watch Three Amigos again. Forgot how funny/silly that one was. Thanks Santee.
Any time!
Did anybody else notice the M-1926 spoon Big John was eating with ? 🙂
Good catch. The Duke wasn't awfully concerned with accuracy. Rio Lobo takes place right after the CW and everyone has 1873 SAA's
Hello! Can u make video about Skinwalker ranch 4rom Arizona?
Will do my best.
Thanks again Santee & Co . I see the sailors are commenting and I agree .
Thank You!
The Cantina is the best scene in Three Amigos.
I like at 2:51 how all three guys are dropping before all three shots are fired (using the WB cartoon cannon sound effects for gunshots as is common in spaghetti westerns)
Movie magic
I’m hungry now!
HAH!
Thank you for this! I want to build my own small cantina
Go for it!
Great video Santee
Thanks, Led!
1973, Outside Valencia Spain my Ship's Postman, and I, a Corpsman found a Cantina while looking for Oranges to take back to our Destroyer.I filled them with 50cc of Vodka, but, the folks at the Cantina treated us great, and, the local Fare was wonderful, then we were told we were in Bosque territory, not to linger too long..
Nice!
Part of me wishes to try any historically accurate cantina food. The other wishes to keep wishing it was Taco Bell.
LOL!
Interesting video. Been in cantinas in Spain. Had good food too!
Oh nice!
"...and, lastly, if you don't mind the aspersions of your friends, a better class of drinking buddies!"
Sudden death follows...
HAHA!
What a great subject to do a video on. But it was over too soon. It would be good if you did a sequel to this about the famous cowboys that were killed in cantinas cardfight so on so forth. The kind of entertainment it would be interesting to learn of how the women dancing with the maracas got started. Thanks again for another great video. 🌵🤠
You're welcome. I'll find out.
Now we know what's in that canteen from last episode!
Shhh!
What? No mention of the Mos Eisley Cantina from Star Wars?
Never a more wicked hive of scum and villainy.
Another grate video! You ever been to silver dollar city?
No I haven't. Dirty Dan's brother was instrumental to that place in the Entertainment department, though.
@@ArizonaGhostriders oh Awesome, was it the homestead pickles?
I like
Thank You!
well one this is for sure... i need to re-visit the Three Amigoes !!! ha ha ha ha.. thanks Cheese !
Any time!
Good Stuff ! But it reminds one of a hang-over or two in the young & foolish years. . Fortunately w/o the gunplay.
HA! Yes....
I was watching the video and my wife heard you say mezcal and i hear her from the other room say I love mezcal. LOL.
HAHA. Me too, now.
I first I thought is said The Old West Canada. That would be interesting too!
Hmmm, yes
In the Cantina Margarita Keep the Spirit High...
Yes
@@ArizonaGhostriders no, beach boys....
🍻
Thank You!
Playing fallout new vegas which has a heavy western theme as a cowboy while listening to ghostriders videos
Nice!
Excellent video. Can you do one about vacationing in the old west? There must have been people from the Eastern United States and foreign countries who heard about the legend of the Wild West and actually traveled to the Wild West just to see and experience it.
I can!
Great video Like always Santee how could someone get started in living history and possibly join the ghost riders
I have a video on how to get started!
I never knew the difference between a cantina and a saloon. Thanks for this Santee.
Also how’s the new job going?
Good! Thanks. I appreciate you asking.
