Nice & organised, i would probably forget to take my bike lol.
that's impressive, somehow you've manages to pack your house, wardrobe and an entire CVS on two wheels! epic!
You made a very good point. My wife and I are very experience backpackers too. We received so many questions from our bikepacking groups about the non-biking part, i.e., water filtration, tent, pads, cooking, medical kit,..etc.
Thanks for this post Betty! I'm trying to get into bikepacking here around Sweden and your video is the perfect introduction into what I may need on a trip and helps me immensely in planning my first trip! Cheers
The hair pick for cactus is a genius idea! 👍 Anyone who's had a chunk of cactus stuck to their clothes, shoe, self, or dog will understand. Finding a stick in the desert that is less dangerous than the cactus you're trying to pry off can be nearly impossible.
Finally... As an UL backpacker who is looking to get into bikepacking, I was having some trouble finding some bikepacking videos at the start where there was A. full suspension setups. and B. Some backpacking influence sprinkled over into the bikepacking. Loved the video. Bummed that ON is sold out of everything.
Great list of gear. Either I missed it or they weren't in there, were... derailleur hangars? I can't believe they're not in your kit as they weigh nothing and are essential.
Cool to see what others are packing. I plan on doing a lot of bike packing this season.
Great gear review and tips. I caught a few items that I needed.
Excellent content here, Tess. Thank you for sharing this, I found it very useful.
I'm forwarding this to a buddy of mine who plans to go bikepacking. Great video and info.
Interesting... probably going on a three day long bikepacking trip this summer and it is nice to see that you can get so much with you in these kind of bags!
Great video thanks! Im doing my first bikepacking trip this weekend. Im nervius and excited!!
Great video and an inspirational setting, on my bucket list now, thanks
Thanks for being so detailed, its a big help to those just getting started!
A great gear selection drawn from various outdoor activity groups. Very well researched indeed. That DCF is a bit hard to commit to due to the price, but it is just so light that it pays for itself immediately.
Nice breakdown that Sawyer mini was a good idea.
As a bike tourer (not bike packer at least yet), my favourite piece of gear is my Kindle. I would probably enjoy touring a lot less without the virtually unlimited ebooks it holds!
Thanks for sharing! Great to see what the long range cyclists are doing on full suspension bikes
Around here you typically see fat bikes geared up. It's cool to see your bikes decked out for bike packing!
Pretty awesome gear run-through vid! Nicely done :D
this is so useful, thank you!
Betty, this is awesome....bike packing is how i got into mountain biking in the first place.....would love to plan a trip with my family again....truly appreciate you sharing this =)
would be sweet to ride with you guys sometime as well.....yall are great people, with great content =)
Nice review! Is the seat bag dropper post compatible like the one offered by Bedrock bags?
So incredibly helpful
I just got my oveja negra frame bag today...it fit like a glove on my trek fuel ex8 plus....thanks for the 10% Tess....it looks like it is going to be a great bag
Awesome vid guys, thank you.
Sleeping outside of a tent in southern AZ?😳 You’re braver than I am. Also, I have that same cho-comb. Thanks for the video. I’m accumulating gear for my first trip.
thanks for all the info DB! my 2 cents... i found that the camelbak-style water carriers are really bad for carrying a lot of weight. on my last mtb hundo i used a ultimate-direction runner's fastpack with an MSR 6 liter bladder. this was so much more comfortable...my back was fine the entire ride.
Thanks, this is a good help - I have ultra lite packed, but this year on the bike I am going for more comfort and that requires packing solutions.
While they've come a bit out of fashion with the recent bikepacking hype: Don't forget the classic rack/pannier combo. I've done a longish trip on my road bike last year. I used a huge saddle bag, similar to the one in the video, two waterproof roll-top stuff bags (one under the saddle bag and one on the handlebar) and a frame bag under the top tube. That worked really well for all the riding but having pretty much everything stored in roll-top bags makes everything kind of a pain to reach. I'm definitely considering low riders with panniers for my next trip.
Panniers are much the best idea
Great useful info! Thanks for posting this video!
@@dustybettymtb I've slowly been collecting the bikepacking packs that I believe will do the job well for me, i.e., a combination of Ortlieb and Topeak gear, and am considering some Ortlieb panniers for road touring. But, videos like this that focus on all of the other types of gear that I'll need is *very* helpful. Thanks again!
Wow great stuff this is almost identical to my thru-hike gear. Just need the bike bags 😄
Could you explain how you use the cup. Cheers
Please advise what cameras used and setup for sound recording?
Great information
really cool and useful! thanks!
Nice video. Thank you. To what degree are these pack bags water proof?
Hi, the seatbags works with the dropper post? Or you loose the chance to use it?
Thanks!
excellent post Dusty Betty all things can be done different or "better" to me the empowerment here is that you are inspiring women to do things out of their comfort zones. I like that part the most. I have found that too much weight on the front end significantly slowed me down in deep sandy sections. Hike a bike in Arizona seems a part of normal reality, so a potential item for future IMO might be shoes. Bikepackers have lots of opinions on those after doing HAB sections. Love the channel and love where you are going with this. Maybe your husband should stick around and do the AZTR 300 this spring? I think that he would like it. Check it out if you haven't already.
I posted this on the trip video, but maybe it's more appropriate here. Can you use saddle bags that big with a dropper? Not just from the seat travel perspective, but also a load perspective? I would think it would cause it to develop play much faster than usual...
Im really enjoying your vids and the lifestyle you and steve are living. One day i will make it there
I hope so. but for now I will live thru your videos.
great clip!!
That's great after watching your backpack video I was hoping you would do a little video like this thanks very much very interesting.
Was your seatpost bag dropper compatible?
What tent are you using?
Great vid👏🏽
Perfect video!
great video!
Good video, it had info I was looking for. Bikepacking of hipermiling a road bike is something I want to do and I'll take all the tips and tricks. Thanks
Dusty Betty this year I am planning a 460K round trip Winnipeg to Brandon road ride and one day I really want to the white rim trail in Utah's canyon lands
The white rim is great. Here's a video of Tess riding the white rim in early 2017: ruclips.net/video/gmqp9Hjnofk/видео.html
Great video breakdown! Loved it. Do you ever use a full tent?
Great video.
How many liters is the sea to summit dry bag on his bike ?
well done, great production values. To the point without all the fluff and crappy music some YTers can't live without.
This video is like the perfect checklist for me. I can’t wait to try Bikepacking this year...just me and my best buddy Leena the Trail Doggy.
Have you ever gone with your dog? If so what kind of extras did you bring besides the obvious food/water supplies for the K9?
Dusty Betty I definitely agree to keep the mileage numbers lower with the pup. I haven’t had tender paws on her yet, but Leena has never run more than 12-15 miles straight with me.
I think we may make our first trip a trial ride that’s nice and short with just 1 night outdoors.
Hey maybe you can make a bike check video on Fender the trail pup! I would love to know more about him and his trail gear!!
You guys have sweet gear I have revelation quilt 20 haven't used it yet will this summer. Just don't mix up tire sealant and sunscreen..joke. One thing for safety I would get some biodegradable wipes and tp if your going to be in bear country expecially if it's going to be that time of month or leave it kinda by bear bag... no joke. 2 years ago I was up la Plata canyon by durango co a bear walked right by us and smoldering fire to where I buried my poo a 100 yards from camp dug it up ate it and kept walking away.
Awesome vid. I want to plan a long backpack trip certainly. I am always curious to see how to deal with the issue of security. I see you are mostly in remote areas when backpacking but do you ever leave your bike unattended / locked up? Or are you always in eyesight of your bike?
Excellent! Really love your grassroots vids. Would be great to show us all a solo set-up! For us beginners ;-)
Pretty impressive how much you were able to carry. When I go backpacking with my wife, if she has her "curse", she gets really exhausted quickly. Do you recommend anything to alleviate this? She will bring some iron pills, since hers can be really bad. I feel really bad for her, whenever she goes through her period, but if we are out away from home, I feel even worse. Sorry if it is a personal question, but I figured you have probably gone through this. Nice video. I liked you bike packing video and would like to try it.
Are these 27.5 or 29ers? My wife & i are using 29er hardtails & using Ortlieb seat bags but unfortunately especially on my wife’s set-up, there is very little clearance with the rear tyre.
Hey Steve. I'm the one that bought your Bronson last year (Loving the bike). Any chance you still have the wheelset that used to be on there?
Thanks for the details. Any negative effects from the water in resivour? Or did the filter do it's job?
Dusty Betty Good to hear.
The only negative effect was a little bit of a gross taste, but that was fixed with flavor packets. It was 100% safe to drink once we filtered it.
Hope to see more multi day travel vids.
Are y'all from the Salida area? Oveja Negra is super quality (in my opinion) and from my hometown :)
Nice move. Sticking you with the stakes. That way he can ditch you and just cut some out of sticks.
Okay, I just gotta ask, How far did you ride on this trip ?
I recently test rode a SANTA CRUZ BLUR and was impressed at how AWESOMELY COMFORTABLE it is. I purchased a Surly Ogre a little over a year ago with long distance riding in mind and still being able to ride some trails. I haven’t taken it more than 30-40 miles in s day yet, But I did ride in a 15 mile loop race, without much more than what is in my backpack (20 lbs 🤷♂️)
There were a lot of people riding Santa Cruz bikes and they were lapping me so fast. I also haven’t been riding as much as they have either. The Ogre handled the trail very well, but it is HEAVY and I was Super Exhausted. After Test Riding the BLUR, I am wondering more about what I could get out of it compared to my Ogre, if I wanted to ride a long distance with gear packed like what you have on yours.
Why don't you carry the tent?
0:20 bikeporn. Lovely bikepacking setup
I know this is way off topic but how do you guys get internet thats affordable and reliable? I'm starting to look into it but I know Steve needs it for his career.
Thanks, have unlimited plan but goes down after 20 gb and 15 on hot spot but looking into boosters.
Super awesome for sharing, being in the infantry for 20 years I know how to pack to sustain for the first 30-45 days until the first resupply hits. Also 2-3 day foot patrols, so I guess it would be similar to that. Except on a bike. Thanks again and keep bringing the rad content.
What is your backpack? Camelbak MULE 3L?
Thanks
Dusty Betty I just ordered Camelbak M.U.L.E, I think it big enough because I have alot filming stuffs. Thanks for sharing. 😁
On your live chat test it wouldn't stop lagging couldn't send a message
Very nice! Because my trips mostly are a bit longer, so I'm traveling no that light weight (even if I wish I could). That's why I'm a big fan of the Aevon Kit L80 Trailer ( ruclips.net/video/zKJxwuOB_I4/видео.html ). With some tuning I got it easy quite light.
GoLite... if you know, you know :)
Thanks ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and a lot lot lot did something that always wanted to do
👍👍👍💘💘💘🍦🍦
Pop Tarts are too heavy to carry:)
Wow, that seems like a lot of weight on your back. But, nice setup.
Nice set up? But do you use all that shit? 😜
Unrealistic
