I think the "Amharic Extended Phrasebook" by Learningonlinexyz Inc is a good book. You can look it up on Books.Google.Com
Try to watch Amharic language TV shows once in a while even though you don't understand what's being said, so that way you can get the feel of how the language sounds like(You can even find some subtitled TV shows/movies). I would say listening is the most important part of a language learning process.
