Since the angle is shallow, probably they're trying to cut from the top instead of the edge so the blade doesn't deflect off the edge of the board. Also, cutting from the top allows the saw's shoe to overlap the pencil line for more accuracy, which isn't possible when the saw is overhanging the board.
What a sweet way to join fascia "the stitch" I've never heard of it, and I can't find any info about it online. It's obvious how it's made, very easy to replicate. You can make the stitch first then measure the length of the boards left and right, that way the joint doesn't need to be part of an overall complicated calculation. I'm definitely doing this on my porch fascia. Thanks for the vid!
I’ve learnt over the years to prime any ends of fascia before install , stopping rot from happening on the end grain in ten years or so depending on the climate of the job location .. sure takes a little more effort but hey I’m getting old and fussy
Great. Watched this few times. A question for you. And maybe a video idea 😊. A section of my house has no rafter tails sticking out but does have the facia. Seems like they were nailed from top of roof. How do you replace these without messing up with the roof? Thanks!
Why Couldn’t you have just went back a couple rafters instead of cutting that scarf joint?or put a block between rafters ? Cool looking cut I just want to know what situation would that be the best way?
it's better content , showing another way to scarf join a board together. instead of doing a old fashioned scarf joint he did it this way and it gets people talking haha
Is there an optimal cut length to aim for in stitching 2 by 10 inch fascia boards. The last person just cut the ends at a 45 degree angle and lag bolted the intersection to the house frame. It hasn't lasted. Thanks for the help. This has been driving me crazy.
I would just start drawing them out and see what gives a good proportion. When I replace my fascia I am going to give this cut a try and now I am thinking of going to a 10" fascia board instead of 8".
The fascia needs to be used for 2x6 rafters is a minimum 2x6 or you can go bigger it depends what look you are going for. Some people don’t use fascia at all
The only thing I learned from this video was YOU CAN PUT STAIR GAUGES ON YOUR SPEED SQUARE!!! at 1:10 he has a fancy expensiver square but OMG you can do that with stair gauges! I've never seen ANYONE do this!
Great technique to stitch the facia.
------ Thank you
That's a very interesting way to stitch the boards together
I've never seen that type of scarf joint. Really cool looking. I'd like to learn more
thank you
Can you explain why you were bouncing the saw up and down when cutting that scarf joint? Looks awesome though!

I would like this a lot more if your employees were wearing safety lines in case they fall.
I bet you would, creeper.
