Fantastic video and very fitting for Rollo! Fantastic to see new Twisted Wonderland animations/animatics popping up. Edit: Ohhhh that ending. That was a gut punch of a final scene. If they do another Glorious Masquerade it would be incredibly fitting for Rollo to me the other Shroud brother Ortho.
THIS VIDEO IS SO BEAUTIFUL!! I can see how much time and effort you’ve put into this work. I admire that. And what could be better than a combo from my favorite game and favorite song? Hehe
Can someone who's played the game this is for and knows all the lore please break down this AMV for me and explain it like I'm 5? It looks really interesting but all I know is what the lyrics themselves mean. I'd love to know what the video is actually conveying.
I'd like to break down the lore as best as I could for you but do you want the version without spoilers or with spoilers? I'm only asking this in case you're interested of playing Twisted Wonderland because the EN version's having the event where Rollo Flamme, the character seen throughout the whole video, is featured in just a few days soon. Also, some other EN players might see this comment too so just putting this up as a warning of sorts.
@@PanLyn987 I am so sorry for this being so very late lol, but I don't plan on ever playing the game myself, so spoilers are 100% cool with me (if you still want to explain that is)
@@TheMusicboxHeart Sure, I'll try my best to explain everything (based on my knowledge on the game + interpretation of the AMV). But for a small disclaimer, I deleted the game about a month ago due to lack of space so there may be some inaccuracies here and there, but I'll still try my best. I'm also not good at reading Japanese, so I'm just basing all my knowledge from the game's English version. But for starters, the name of the song is called "Orthodoxia", which means "correct praise/faith". The original MV is about a man named Tadashi who creates his own religion and is considered as god's messenger by his followers. But after a period of time this leads to him becoming arrogant, and using his power for personal gain. Tadashi does not realize there is growing discontent among his followers as his cynical behavior continues. Tadashi’s followers eventually rebel, crucifying and burning him. I'm pretty sure the main reason why this song was chosen to represent Rollo Flamme specifically is because it covers dark and religious themes. He is a character inspired by Claude Frollo from the Hunchback of Notre Dame. While Rollo himself doesn't have Frollo's more... notable traits, he more or less sees himself as a 'savior' to those who are corrupted by the thrill of the magic powers they have (which pertains to majority of the world's population) and basically wants to rid the world of magic so no one dies or gets hurt again like his late little brother. (Part 1)
This part contains the timestamps that have my own personal interpretations of the AMV. 0:08 - 0:25 -> Iirc, this part shows some lines from the main characters we play as. For further context, these characters underwent something called "Overblot", which is a rare occurrence that only happens to mages that undergo a lot of stress and keep using magic willy-nilly. In this state, they more or less become boss monsters you fight at the end of each main story chapter. There are question marks for the 7th character because their story chapter wasn't released yet at the time of posting. 0:42 - 0:57 -> I believe this is the artist's interpretation of Rollo's actions before the masquerade ball starts. He is also the student council president of Noble Bell College, so no one would expect someone of his position would do such a thing (ridding the world of magic). 0:58 - 1:06 -> These are just some in-game items and currencies. In order they are: Gems (used for gacha), Cupcakes, Macarons, Waffles (all three are used in in-game lessons to make characters level up faster), Honey (used to manually level up characters), and Starshards (used to recover in-game energy). 1:06 - 1:14 -> Rollo is the student council president of his school and is tasked with organizing the masquerade ball. The other two characters are also members of the council. The brown haired one is the Vice President while the black haired one is the Aide. 1:30 -> This scene shows a magical artifact that the NBC houses, it is called the Bell of Solace. When rung, this bell produces lots of magic and causes lots of magical plants to grow rapidly. This is why the city the school is located in is called Fleur City (Fleur is the French word for Flower). Rollo rings this bell for his plan later on in the actual event. 1:33 - 1:46 -> This is Rollo's opening monologue when Glorious Masquerade, his debut event, starts. It more or less has Rollo being excited about the event... because he has a big plan to rid the everyone involved of their magic. 1:48 - 1:55 -> This is the artist's rendition of a certain scene in the event where Rollo basically tells the MC why he thinks magic is harmful and shouldn't exist. Predictably, the MC believes the opposite. 1:56 - 2:04 -> This is a scene where Night Raven College (the school the MC joined) students along with others from other schools set off fireworks using their own magic. From left to right, this art (1:56) shows the characters Ruggie Bucchi (based from the Hyenas in Lion King), Rook Hunt (based from the Hunter from Snow White) and Epel Felmier (based on the Poison Apple from Snow White). The MC is enjoying the fireworks and the festivities while Rollo is... pissed off and more inclined to continue his plan. (Part 2)
2:05 - 2:12 -> This just shows some items that Fleur City is known for. Which are croissants, macarons (shaped like the Bell of Solace), a handmade pendant (which its meaning is a mystery), grapes (the city is known for their wine and grape juice), cheese. The hankerchief at the end of the sequence, is a reference to how Esmeralda, in the Disney film, would blow on one to release a cloud of smoke to quickly escape from guards hunting down Romani people like her. 2:14 - 2:21 -> This art features the event's banner characters: Azul Ashengrotto (based on Ursula), Idia Shroud (based on Hades) and Malleus Draconia (based on Maleficent) along with the MC. This is basically at the climax point in the event where Rollo reveals his plan and that the main characters could do nothing to stop it. The plan in question? Rollo manages to get a hold of an extinct species of parasitic plants called Firelotuses which consume a mage's magic for nourishment. A mage that gets all of their magic sapped by these plants permanently lose their magic. He also used the bell to further spread these flowers all over the city. (In case you were wondering how did Rollo get these plants... it was never explained.) 2:29 -> A short montage of the main characters' magic pens turning black due to Overblot due to main story events. The 7th's character's pen is not featured here for reasons mentioned in Part 2. 2:37 -> This scene features the moment where Rollo gains his Signature Spell... as his little brother dies (due to his magic going out of control, thus killing him). This Signature Spell is called 'Dark Fire', which basically turns Rollo into living flames that grows bigger based on the negative emotions/feelings surrounding him. It's a reference to Claude Frollo's vision of Esmeralda during the song "Hellfire". 2:50 - 2:53 -> The artist's rendition of Rollo's younger brother along with the moment of his death from Rollo's perspective. His hand position is similar to when we first see the Bell of Salvation... but he doesn't ball his hand into a fist. For me, it signifies how Rollo felt powerless to save his brother as he burned alive and he couldn't do anything to save him in contrast to the scene with the Bell. The Bell is a tangible object that helped him in his desire to rid the world of magic to prevent pain and suffering. 2:55 - 3:10 -> These are lines said by Rollo's younger brother before he died. They more or less have him saying how much he enjoys magic because he can make Rollo happy whenever he can show it off. The very last line in the sequence is him calling out to Rollo for help as his magic overwhelms him. 3:13 - 3:24 -> The artist's rendition of Rollo's flashbacks to his younger brother. Both of them are wearing white (which I interpret as them both being innocent. Rollo doesn't know his little brother would die as he's cheerfully showing his magic to his big brother), then Rollo is alone wearing black as he mourns for his brother's death (which I interpret as his guilt consuming him, as he wasn't able to save him due to his lack of magic at the time). 3:26 -> Rollo confronts Azul, Idia and Malleus at the Bell of Salvation. The Firelotuses are practically all over the city at this point. The latter three need to hit the bell so that the flowers would die of being overfed with magic basically, to avoid anyone else from losing their magic to the parasitic plants. 3:28 - 3:36 -> The artist's rendition of Rollo using his Signature Spell, Dark Fire. His hatred of magic has caused him to only use it once as he tries to protect the bell from being rung again, to prevent his plan from failing. 3:41 - 3:56 -> The three manage to take Rollo down and ring the Bell of Salvation, saving Fleur City (along with the whole world) for good as all the Firelotuses wither away from over nourishment. 4:00 - 4:26 -> This is a completely fanmade scene of other main characters visiting Fleur City. The characters in this art (4:15) from left to right are Lilia Vanrouge, Floyd Leech (based on Flotsam from The Little Mermaid) and Kalim Al-Asim (based on the Sultan from Aladdin). The one in the middle is Ortho Shroud, Idia's little brother... or at least, an android version of him that Idia built himself as the real Ortho died from a magic related accident (not exactly the same as Rollo's younger brother... it's complicated) as a means to cope the real Ortho's death. It's basically a "What if" scenario if Rollo met Ortho, which has very... tragic implications. (Part 3, End)
rollo would 100% go up to idia and ask him to recreate his little brother 🙏🙏
