  • The common equation that can make a dramatic effect on success of a new hip or knee is preparation, rehabilitation and recovery.
Our best advice is to make time for preparation and put major effort into your recovery and physical therapy. Katie McCarthy, BSN, RN, Total Joint Coordinator at Renown Health shares “Those who recover the best have high motivation with therapy recommendations. You should stay in touch with your registered nurse, physical therapist and occupational therapist to assist and address your questions and needs throughout your recovery.”

I had total knee replacement and I'm so lucky to have a good team of medical and surgical staff who had provided me with written instructions to what to do and expect before, immediate and after my surgery. In short I am not lost with the process of my surgery; of healing; rehab ; daily expected activities; managing my pain. Patient instructions is the best tool, I'm a nurse myself but being a patient is different and I depended on the instructions a lot.

So the year is 2022. I’ll be getting my left knee replaced soon and I’m 70. I’m hoping that I heal quickly and I’m not in the hospital only one day. I was walking over 10,000 steps every day last year. Not this year because it’s very painful. I want to get back to walking with my little dog as soon as possible. I’m going to hit physical therapy head on so I can get better quickly. Thanks for this long video. It was very informative.

I totally disagree with pain pills lasting four hours. Research Margo McCafery RN, MSN, FAAC pain management concept BTW I am an RN, MSN and had a total joint.
