😂😂 that's part of what makes these kind of tracks so memorable, there's no one specific scene or moment associated with them universally (like there would be if it was a film or more cinematic style of game) because we just hear them on repeat while playing, but there are on a personal level because we all remember specific moments from our playthrough

What's so crazy about this song is that it is NOT playing while some incredible moment is happening. It's playing while you are just wandering around the town of Whiterun and other parts of Skyrim.
You could say this song does more worldbuilding for Skyrim than all the exposition of the story ever did.
Skyrim is a harsh, cold, but beautiful and magical world - for those with the strength to survive.

Whiterun is the first major city in the game the player will likely come across in Skyrim. For many players, this city will be your main hub where you store all of your gear, ingredients, materials, etc. because getting a house in this city is fairly easy early on. It's kind of pain to move your stuff from one house to a different house later on in the game, so most players will just keep using it. Because of that, this track is going to be very memorable for a lot of players because you're always returning here during your 200 hour adventure, at least 50 or 100 times.

got to love just how much effort Jeremy Soule puts into background music for the even the least important parts of the game, such as this piece for just wandering around a town with absolutely no imortance placed on it what so ever, they use music in games to set a mood and in games like Skyrim the music is always playing in the background setting the mood for literally everything from the important to the mundane.

I guess the beauty of being a musician - (I play cello in the orchestra)is even Game OST’s can bring such joy and reward, this piece brought tears to my eyes, as it was purposefully written in the key that emotionally strikes people. A clever beautifully written piece for that purpose. I’d be interested in what you thought on the rest of Skyrim performances. And your absolutely correct on the slight hand transition that allows us to sustain a note to an almost never ending legato with our up bowing and down bowing. On the squeaking noise we actually bring them back into compositions especially to show emotion like you’d get during a flamenco duel.. So it’s import to produce those harmonic squeals as it is to remove them. But yeppers Great Cello playing here very smooth transitions and I personally love this passage of music.

"This must be such a powerfully moving moment in the game. It's so pulling. There's like a mysterious hopelessness in this vibe."
The thing is that the game isn't sequenced like that, with set moments as if it were a directed scene in a film. It's non-linear in the biggest possible way, in that you're just invited into a wide open world where you can get lost in whatever adventure crosses your path. This song like most songs are not scripted to a beat in a story, but instead they are pieces that can play as you just walk around going about your own adventure.
But there are themes to the world you step into, which certainly are evoked by this song - the "mysterious hopelessness" as you called it.
It could be calling you to feel the climate you're in: a cold, and harsh northern land.. where hardy people live simple, but rough lives - but stop for a moment and you can sense a calm stillness in the night, and as you look up at the stars you see the northern lights dancing in the sky and you can feel an ancient magic in the cold air.

One of Skyrim's greatest strengths is that it makes the mundane beautiful. Even simply walking around town has such a beautiful theme to it. Jesus I love watching this guy dissect songs of my life. It's the perspective of someone older, but someone more appreciative of the music and the work than I am. A completely different viewpoint but someone who gets just as passionate as us about the songs of our lives and childhood.

Love your words in the beginning of the video! I don't play any instruments but always when I see an orchestra it's pure magic. There are people dedicating their whole life to music and they are able to play together so well that I shed a tear sometimes :D It's just beautiful (Oh, and the skyrim soundtrack + everything Jeremy Soule has done is awesome. Is prefer the Morrowind Soundtrack over Skyrim or Oblivion tbh, but all of them are great)

The elder scrolls series sound tracks are amazjng. But My favorite music orchestra from a game will always be the Halo theme song.

Favorite Skyrim track, and also a lifetime orchestral musician here. I absolutely love the chord progression of this piece, very nostalgic and ethereal - almost bittersweet.
The only critique I have of this performance is I feel the Cello soloist was not mic'd quite enough. Sometimes the choir was over mic'd. But that's just because I have listened to the original track THAT many times - haha.

The London Philharmonic did New Horizons from Skyrim, it's gorgeous. And Secunda is an otherworldly classic.

This is such a beautifull moment in the game. Some random *sshole calling your poor for no reason. Fr though, it is actually one of my favourite moments in the game. Seeing Adrianne and Idolaf talk about weapon supplies. Seeing the merchants in the market. Saffir and Amren discussing about his dumb sword. Heimskr preaching arround. I absolutely adore that feeling. Going to sell my hunted meat and crafting some hides. Buying a new bow from Elrindir (I often play unstealth archers so hunting is a big roleplay thing for me). Going to sleep at the Bannered Mare, cooking some venison you hunted that day and drinking an ale you bought with that steel sword you sold that you found on that corpse. For some reason, I enjoy living as an npc, on highest difficulty (if not higher with mods). Survival mode (with some extra mods). I really like doing that.

This is an arrangement by Inon Zur, who is an accomplished video game composer in his own right. But the composer is Jeremy Soule, who I consider to be a league above Inon Zur. Just my opinion though.
