They definitely have some incredible bossfights that can top almost any Elden Ring and Bloodborne bossfight easily, like the ones I mentioned to be my favourites in the vid. Also the tracks, I listen to them at least once a week, but some level design choices, the weak lore and some enemies made me feel like it is a chore…

ivory was the only decent, and even that one has a mediocre segment.
My feelings aside, i did think the dlc's had some bad design in many parts, but I loved how each one tried so hard to create whole new parts of the world that expanded on or created new parts of the lore that played off many important themes in the story. I did think some level design was very creative and experimented with fun ideas, the brume towers fire powered statue elevators and the nadalia statues. The sanctum cities button puzzles, pillar puzzles, and the sanctum knights ghost forms being broken by destroying their main bodies in coffins. The ivory king dlc having two different modes of exploration after removing the ice storm after killing aava, and the weapons, spells and armors introduced are so worth the effort. I wish some enemies were cooler and some areas werent so empty, but tbh I'm just happy that the game offered so much for what limitations the ps3 had. I understand your gripes but I'm a fan of looking past the issues. I liked at leasy half the enemies in the dlc's, while some (the dragon mouths) were kinda meh. All the bosses were awesome though. Expect the hidden trio boss in the sunken dlc. Thanks for being fair and not cherry picking like other critics ❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for the comment, it is a very in depth analysis of the game. I always say it, I am not a hater. It did some phenomenal things, but I heavily dislike the bad things, which makes me put it at the bottom of my fromsoft dlc list. Ty for being comprehensive❤️

5:48 is a serious skill issues First, you could have just killed the Firebomb Thrower before going down. Secondly the room before that taught you that the Barrel Carriers explode on contact with fire. You could have chased them to the Iron Warrior that constantly spews fire from his shoulder, or you could have brought firebombs and fire arrows yourself. Or lured the enemies closer together with Alluring Skulls. Also, Cave of the Dead, Iron Passage and Frigid Outskirts are completely optional Raid Dungeons, as indicated by the weird statues at the beginning of those areas. The same statues are also outside of the DLC door with a developer message stating that summon signs placed here are getting channeled far away. They have an increased summoning limit and allow you to summon players that don't even own the DLC. During coop there's special item drops as well. Like in Iron Passage the lever isn't meant for solo players. You are supposed to just wait at the gate and have one of your several team members pull the lever and deal with the enemies. The team then splits up and progresses both paths at the same time, which is great Jolly Cooperation. And the big fire dude at the end of Iron Passage does not prevent you from going through the fog gate. You can just walk to the fog gate without him being able to catch up.
I know they can explode, I mentioned it in the video. I got unlucky with it though because I was not exaggerating when I said I spent many minutes running around kiting them without triggering an explosion. You cannot justify the optional zones being miserable just by stating they are optional. Anyone who loves these games will try to complete as much as possible. Even more so in my case, where I am making a video and thus, I have to experience everything before giving my opinion. The lever thing being a team work sounds awesome, never thought of that, although I never had the chance because I bought the game in 2021 and found no real summons there. Don’t know if the npc summons can do that though, I tend not to summon while playing these games.
@@ComYuriY my point wasn't just that they are okay because they are optional, but that they are okay in coop as they are balanced around coop. Solo players can just ignore those areas as by design they have nothing important that solo players would miss out on. They are just meant to provide coop players with areas that are designed for coop. You are supposed to have a balanced team with at least one of each of the following: a tank, a DPS and a healer. These are the areas where you can summon without feeling bad about it, but like you said nowadays there's not as much online activity. There was a lot more back when the DLCs got released because these areas were part of the Try Before You Buy ad campaign. Even if you don't own the DLC (or in Scholar if you haven't found the key yet) you can join the summon pool and during coop you can get the DLC armor and weapons as drops from the enemies. So back then there was a lot more activity by people that didn't have the DLC but wanted to get DLC items.
Thanks! Typically I do reviews of fromsoft games. Knowing that sekiro, ds3, ER, and Demon Souls are still out there, I doubt I’ll be making content related to Ds2 in the near future, unless I come up with a challenge or something of the sort.
I'll say this: Not even bringing in my personal feelings about these DLCs (I really like them), but at least they're better than fucking Ashes of Ariandel. Seriously, I hate that DLC with a passion. The Sister Friede fight was the only worthwhile thing about it. How do you drop one of the most boring expansions and then go on to make The Ringed City? Pile of garbage first, then the second best Fromsoft DLC? It really baffles me. But yeah, personally, I find these DLCs fun and I think that getting all three crowns to unlock the true power of the King's Crown is a fun little idea.
I kept hearing these DLCs redeemed the base game, that they were the best DLCs in Fromsoft history. They were not. They're better than the base game, sure, but they were more painful than fun to get through.
Look, I'll try keeping it short: the dlcs are both the best and the worst bits of DS2. The three main areas are easily the coolest, most creative and fun ones to explore, and level design-wise they honestly blow anything from the base game out of the water (what's the best area in vanilla DS2, the lost bastille? Or perhaps the dragon aerie? I don't care, they both pale in comparison to any of the bigger dlc ones) - and hell, even some mediocre ass areas such as the dreg heap and the actual ringed -swamp- err, city from DS3; be it the "Indiana Jones-y" contraptions in Shulva, the verticality of brume tower or the shortcut-dense maze that is Eleum Loyce, each and every area is built around relatively unique and interesting mechanics, which, paired with their thematic variety, makes for a compelling recipe for a dlc. The same kind of logic can be applied to the bosses as well: nothing in the base game (except for the darklurker, maybe) can stand its ground against the likes of fume knight, Alonne, Sinh or the ivory king in terms of complexity, uniqueness and difficulty... I don't even find Aava all that bad per se as long as I consider him to be its own thing (hell, even Godrick and Astel from elden ring would be trash tier bosses going by your "every copypasta is bad" logic, and that's very much not the case). And while it's true that all dlcs from other souls games do, on average, have better bosses, it's still DS2 we're talking about at the end of the day, and as such, what would be considered average fights in games such as DS3 or Sekiro still end up being the standouts of their own game, amounting to more than decent fun. The real issues start when we move on to the multiplayer areas. Granted, they were never designed around solo play, but one could argue that a game with such godawful summoning mechanics (I thank the nexusmods gods every day for having blessed us with ER seamless coop) should've never focused on bothering with that in the first place... even because literally everything in these areas is half-assed, ranging from the bosses themselves (Alonne aside, of course) to the enemy placement, area design and narrative relevance. I swear to god, these areas are so soulless and poor of assets that it feels like they were made in less than a single day, lmao, I believe the only "exclusive" things about them are astrologers and frozen reindeers - and with both enemy types sucking balls, this speaks volumes about their level of quality. So yeah, in the end, I think the dlcs are all pretty good. Definitely not the most memorable thing ever, but they're pretty much the main reason I come back to DS2 every now and then. You'll always have a good time as long as you can live with actively avoiding the crappy stuff, lol
They are literally the worst part of the game with tanky enemies, boring Level design besides sunken crown, it’s alright level design wise and Enemy spam. The DLCs have three of the worst bosses and run backs (fridges outskirts lud and Zullen, cave the dead with the trio of NPCs, and iron passage with blue smelter. Actually smelter is all right as a boss it’s just the run back that is shit.) also all the bosses are just super tanky for no reason. It’s always the super dark souls 2 haters that praise the DLCs. I don’t think ds2 is a good game as much as the next guy (I play it a lot because it does have really fun weapons and crap) but I know that the DLC‘s are worse than the main game and I just skip them. I beat them like 5 times I don’t need to beat them anymore
3:25 the gank squad, zud and lallen and coolaide demon are all free content and are mroe like a way to give players a taste of the dlc without paying for them back in the day you could put your sign down at the entrance to the dlc even if you dont own it and could be summoed there, hence why they are called "co-op bosses"
To be fair those are some shitty bosses to be teasers for your DLC, sure you don't just give the best boss away for free but you aren't getting great attention with those boss runs
@@morjin4859 "to be fair" they were specifically designed with co-op in mind. and they literally arent even that bad. its all easily doable even in solo.

I don’t mind them defending it, really, as long as they are respectful. There are some wholesome comments from people who think quite the contrary, and that is what I like, to generate debate, I even mentioned it in the video. The disrespectful ones on the other hand… I don’t know what they are trying to accomplish by saying “awful take” lmao it is completely useless because neither does it generate a discussion, nor it makes me think twice about my take.
To me they’re the only reason I’ll replay ds2 now but they’re also the worst dlc in the series, really only because what they’re being compared to is so stellar
