- Jake Gyllenhaal joins BBC Radio 1's film critic Ali Plumb to talk about his new Prime Video bar brawler Road House, the remake of the '80s Patrick Swayze classic. Here he explains the advantages of having really rather long arms, who makes him crack up most on set - spoiler: it's Tom Holland - and how you manage to keep your cool when you're squaring up against Conor McGregor weilding a golf club.

I've not seen that many videos with Jake Gyllenhaal, but this is by far the calmest and most chill I've seen him 😅
Him doing interviews with Tom Holland are fun too.
@@clarkmichaels822 True! Love the BBC1 "Unpopular opinion" video 😅
You need a bigger sample size for your comment to have any relevance.
@@robovac3557 Hey man, my sample size is at least 4, give me a break
@@robovac3557 they're unintentionally correct though....I've seen many of his interviews , he's always so hyper and energetic in his interviews etc....
Wow, I think this is the first time I've seen him this calm in an interview. In the past, he's always so animated and always shouting 😄
It’s great to see Ali appreciated as a fantastic interviewer because he is, he really relaxes his guest and gets some surprising but always entertaining content. He asks intelligent questions and really tries to put people at ease. It’s always fun to watch his interviews.
Jake more down to earth than i knew, you can tell hes very like self aware, he knows acting isnt like being a damn soldier, and he makes sure to mention that in some way in alot of the interviews, that his job isnt like "hard" and so on. respect that.
Ali and Jake in a bar would be absolute chaos.
Im ali
It seems like Mr. Gyllenhaal never ages. And what a career thus far.
didn't think I'd see a Hot Ones shoutout here but I love it - would be awesome to see Ali take on the wings at some point
can you imagine if halfway through Ali somehow took over the interviewing role? it'd be so much fun - and probably highly complimentary.
Source Code is still underrated.
Yep more love for Source Code is definitely needed.
I love how laidback he is on this interview, seems like a cool guy to be friends with.
He seems to really appreciate his job. I can imagine how easily it might be to lose yourself in the film industry. It's defiantly still hard work but it seems so incredibly rewarding, in a bunch of different ways.
Top 3 JG films -
3) Donnie Darko
2) Enemy
1) Nightcrawler
Fantastic actor who's always great to watch. Intersted to see their take on Roadhouse.
The end credit scene was absolutely amazing! funny as hell!
Finally we can see more Jake Gyllenhall. I’ve been checking RUclips for his videos everyday lol
Someone get the mop out. Leakage aisle 5.
I feel attacked 🤣
I can't believe he mentioned Enemy. That's by far the best movie he has ever done. I am actually a big fan of this guy because of that one. Also, Nightcrawler is so so good, and Prisoners (of course). And yes, yes, Donnie Darko too, and Nocturnal Animals and Zodiac for sure... But Enemy... and the book is just phenomenal (Jose Saramago).
puro real conoce Enemy y El Hombre Duplicado, wholeheartedly agree
He should've been nominated for an Oscar for Nightcrawler!
Forgetting END OF WATCH and Jarhead. Enemy is exceptional but both show cases his raw talent more imo.
Jake seems much more chill in this interview compared to how chaotic he can be a lot of the time. 😂
You are a fantastic interviewer! I've loved them all. So open and real.
this should be in cinemas because it will go unnoticed on the internet.
The way I would disintegrate if Jake Gyllenhaal told me I was great or was doing a great job.
I was about to go to bed and suddenly an Ali Plumb interview?! What a treat! Good night, everyone.
9:34 Enemy is fantastic!!! underrated movie
Slap sequence 😂
Enemy is definitely one of my favourite movies of Jake. His whole career he's had such a plethora of amazing thriller movies Donnie Darko, Zodiac, Prisoners, Source Code, Nocturnal Animals, Nightcrawler. Just wanna see him in a psychological thriller like enemy again.
The movie is awesome. It doesn't take itself seriously, but it's also earnestly done
JAKE IS SO ADORABLE ❤
I absolutely adore the original, very important movie for me growing up, a certain family member who is no longer with us introduced me to the OG Road House. With all that on-board, I ain't going to be one of those people that shits on the remake that's different in almost every way aside from the premise... I had a lot of fun with this movie, it was a ton of fun that doesn't take itself seriously at all. Jake was awesome as always and while I'm not a big fan of Conor Mcgregor, i will say he was great in this, hilarious and unhinged. After 1st watch its a 7/10
Jarhead is a gem!
I've watched the film 3 times already
It only came out Thursday 🤨
And i watched the original Road House 100 times haha
I’ve watched it twice, and now I’m convinced that Conor is bad at acting.
Some cool fights though.
Oh Snap oh really demm😄😆
Enemy is definitely very underrated in Jake's filmography. It's one of his best performances. Another I'd recommend is Southpaw.
I love Enemy and so glad Jake said that particular Role. Still trying to understand it all these years later. Oh my giddy Aunt what an ending!!
Ok, for real, Enemy is my favorite movie. I'm so glad he mentioned that one!
That Slap does have a name. The Stockton Slap. The Diaz brothers do it a lot. Nate has done it to almost every opponent including Conor.
Let him elaborate on "stillness". It was an interesting question with an interesting answer that you immediately moved on from without letting him elaborate.
Pretty awesome and badass film love how it had Same n similar scenes in it like original.
Just saw the movie last night and it was great! Who knew Conor would be really good in an acting role?
I love Jake as an actor and for my money is one of the best actors working right now and I've seen almost everything he's in except Enemy because im an arachnophobe and idk if I can handle watching it. If anyone could be an absolute legend though and give me timestamps on where to skip id definitely watch it but without that I don't have it in me 😅😅
Ali is absolutely brilliant at what he does! So good!
Carried the whole movie
Awesome movie. Expected more fighting and the MMA fights could have been better but still good.
It took almost 2 weeks to film the big fight scene, wow!
I knew he would say "Enemy" :)
If you have seen Enemy definitely check it out, the ending is one of the greatest endings to a film ever! It's absolutely bonkers but ultimately brilliant and fascinating!
Petition for Ali Plumb to be a guest on Hot Ones.
I would have liked to see the play he did with Ruth Wilson. She's a brilliant actor who does not get her due outside of the UK.
October Sky is a wonderful gem in his film catalog. Check it out if you haven’t!
You need different images for each person for the back drop. Really distracting watching it flip.
I really enjoyed watching the 'new' Road House movie! 💯💪
I have watched more interviews about this movie cus Conor McGregor is in it and Jake seems like a cool guy.
Ali Plumb is really, really good at what he does.
Well done!
A real hidden gem (not that Enemy isn't): Prince of Persia
I wanna see his dedication for the John Chapman film.
Dang I wanted Jake to say more when Ali brought up his wired autocomplete interview with ryan
Jake and Conor in one frame made me so giddy lol
I know that long arms thing. More bad than good.
Thank you Ali.
The slap should be called the gyllen slap
Nice!
Just finished the film, it's fun but terrible. The acting, storyline and plot is erratic. I think it tried to be funny in places but failed. Funnily enough, Conner played his part really well and nailed his part.
Jake seems really humble. I think his sister is great, too.
Hats off to Gylenhaal for having to a) make this film to fulfill some studio contract and b) having to pretend it isn’t the worst film he’s been involved with.
Was a decent movie in my opinion nearly all remakes won’t be as good as the original enjoyed it.
I'm just watching the film now. It's OK.
Movie was fun !
Saw it ans time is better spent watching the original.
GOAT
Can't wait ❤😂
Jake's Top10 hidden gems:
Nocturnal animals
Southpaw
Source code
Enemy
Stronger
Demolition
Jarhead
End of watch
Brothers
October sky...
Can Jake still play an invisible bugle?
9:34 that one is weird but well made by Denis V.
❤❤
my favourite naik I love you so much
I'd pay good money to see Jake and Conor have a real fight
You'd pay to see Jake get demolished, lol? He's a good guy, come on
There is literally no way to get in that shape in 2 months without PED's xD
Conor 😂
I was disappointed in the new roadhouse movie I am afraid I still think the original with Patrick Swayze was better
You guys are going to give back what you stole too. Every dime of it.
WTF would they remake roadhouse? Can we get some original new movies without any gd superheroes?
Wind your neck in and get back to work
City Slickers 1 and 2
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
enemy!
😂
That ain’t no 2 month body. Ain’t no clean body either
Gyllenhaal put in a decent performance, unfortunately everything else about this film is beyond terrible.
Interesting 🧠🧠🧠🧠⚡⚡🧚♀️🧚♀️
Based on a true story
The movie is awful. Still prefer the old movie with Patrick Swayze.
The plot was unbelivable stupid, and McGregor act like even more idiot in real life.
So basicly the director told him, "act like yourself...but even more stupid"
Some of the fight scenes are boring and made by a guy who is fan of Bourne trilogy i guess.
I’ve only ever seen footage of Conor mcgregor losing fights
'what goes into looking as good as you do' steroids.
Hard work
Movie sucked and I wanted to like it
Goodbye 👋 to your film career Jake🙈
Conor is a terrible actor 😂 That movie was trash
Gyllenhaal will regret this for the rest of his life.
Hey, looky! Somebody is mumbling again! And it ain't Jake.
this movie sucks
Conor McGregor ruined the entire film...
One of the worst film of 2024. Jake Gyllenhaal is the only decent actor in it. McGregor...I hope it is the last film he does.
What a very poor film...watched it last night through grittted teeth. Terrible film
Film was just awful. Terrible CGI, Zero plot, and dare i mention Connor Macgregor? Lets not.
Ah, loving the "Be nice" and the "3 Simple Rules" signs in the bar backdrop. Callback to the original film.
He never mentions Bubble Boy. WTF, man!? heheheheheh
Jake is funny
😂
