We've seen the consequences of neutrality unprepared firsthand multiple times throughout history, the only reason Finland and Ukraine exist currently is due to how unappealing invasion is and Ireland is extremely vulnerable position currently from oceanic defence, the Brits controling most of our waters all the way to air defence.
Norway thought they could remain neutral in WW2 ...but Germany , under Hitler , ignored this and marched in and took Norway
