The sad part is that Eggers tailored this film specifically for a wider audience, and it still did badly at the box office. People really don't appreciate good cinema anymore. In my opinion it's a masterpiece and something about it really spoke to me and reached right into my soul!⚔️🌋
Agreed. I hope we get a director's cut or something from before he tailored it. Gorgeous film. I've seen it at least 4 times in the past week. Instantly jumped to a favorite for me.

@@SquirrelDesecrator I saw a number of sources saying Eggers considers the movie to be his Director's Cut and does not plan to change anything, which is a shame, because I think everyone who loves this movie would be fine seeing even more of it.
I absolutely loved it. I'm a bit sad it has underperformed at the box office, but there are a lot of great films that didn't get as much recognition as they deserved. I am glad The Northman exists, because it is already such a unique film, and I can't wait to see what Robert is working on next.

The good news is he's actually working on a Nosferatu remake which will begin filming soon.
Everyone is just sucked into stupid superhero movies now. Dont get me wrong i think Marvel and DC movies are super cool but that shit is just overplayed and overrated now. People forget unique stories with good scripts and story telling. The Northman is a masterpiece in my eyes.
@@kinglance2132 It doesn't have anything to do with taste, it's everything to do with economics. Superhero movies are not brilliant and truly artistic films, but they are fun, and if I'm gonna spend money to go to the theater which is super expensive these days, I'm gonna watch a Marvel movie. People just don't have the time or the money to watch every film that comes out, even though a movie like The Northman is absolutely artistically superior to your average Marvel. I'd rather wait for it to come out on VOD, streaming or rental and watch it at my own leisure for a practice of the price (or just pirate it for free).
@@TheCheat_1337 You got a good point. It seems like it still has to do with what people prefer. Would you still pay to go see a Marvel movie just cause its more economically sensible? Even if it wont be as good as other films? I just think right now a lot of audiences are stuck with watching superhero flicks and a lot of those movies are quite overrated. Spending money to go see a movie that disappoints is still at the end disappointing, so would you think your money was well spent? Just saying Marvel and DC movies get all the hype nowadays. But i guess you're always taking a gamble on the film anyway. The Northman could have very much sucked lol. But thank Odin it was awesome!

Robert has said around 15-20 minutes of deleted scenes will be present

Still haven't seen it. My little brother said it's one of his favorite films. I've seen the Witch plenty and it's easily my favorite horror film as it's the only movie that calls itself "horror" that actually makes me feel unsettled to the core and mesmerized the entire time. I need to watch The Northman.

The most accurate "viking" film about the Norse and Scandinavian culture to date! As a history-nerd it was incredible to see all the small details, accurate armor and clothing etc.
The TV series "Vikings" and "Last Kingdom" are not even close.
I really recommend this film to everyone.👏 🙂
I think that Eggers should try to make a double narrative movie, maybe set during the third crusade where we get to see from both the Templars and the Ayyubids perspective on it. And I trust that Eggers will make sure that both sides will be sympathetic, so that it neither becomes a christian nor a muslim ego wank.
I hope bad box office numbers dont influence Eggers at how he does future projects. Love this dudes works and hope he continues with the same passion
I've watched this movie six times yet and every time I discover new things, I will keep going while is on theaters. This is a film for history, 50 years from now people will keep talking about it.

i so loved this movie ..a true to life movie about a Viking myth ..i hope people will appreciate how historically correct this movie is...it is not a Hollywood biker Viking all war movie...Alex was truly amazing in how hard he worked to get in shape for this project...

I don't understand why films like this are underperforming, people loved watching stuff like The Revenant and Black Swan in theatres, both films have made over 300+ million at the BO.
I don't think this is entirely on COVID, because films like MCU and Fast & Furious are still making money.
Both had huge star power (Leo-Portman) also black star is nowhere near the budget of this
