    Mikey Powell was a kind human, too. With my nephew on the field at Gtown, long after a game. He was so kind, got down on one knee to talk to the little guy. Asked my nephew about this n that. Super guy. Thanks Mike Powell 25 years later.

      Lyle is a great player, but he has not changed the game anywhere near as much as the Gait brothers (and Marachuk) did. Bobby Orr is the greatest defenseman of all time because he changed the game. Paul Coffee is also a great defenseman, but Orr really did the things Coffee did first. Thompson is like Pau Coffee to Gary Gait's Bobby Orr.

    In 1974 or 75 this kid from Brantford came to Windsor,Ontario, he played a lacrosse game and then flew him out to Ste.Saint Marie to pitch in a baseball game. My father asked who is this kid that is so special. His name was Wayne Gretzky.

  • @GuyMorey
    @GuyMorey Год назад +1

    There is a right answer to this question. Basically, the players over 50 years of age who played the game with a WOODEN STICK. If you want to choose a GOAT, it has to be a player who played BOTH offense and defense. Field lacrosse and any current box lacrosse have players playing either offense or defense. You can't choose the GOAT player based solely on offensive skills or defensive skills. If I had to choose between a John Grant Jr. and a Paul Evans, I'd take Paul Evans hands down. Paul Evans ran back to play defence. John Grant Jr, ran off. Paul Evans whacked and hacked with a wooden stick. Today's sticks just break with the slightest cross-check. This list is really lame. Its probably safe to assume that most people commenting here have never seen a game prior to 1990.

    ten months late to the party but even before his recent 3rd MVP win, Tom Schieber should've deserved some consideration.
    I struggle to think that Brown or Spencer should be on the last as they did not play pro. The same case could be make for Mike Powell as he barely had a pro career. They are all in the discussion for greatest college player ever. Players like John Grant Jr, Brendan Mundolf, or Stephen Berger have shown that going to a top school means nothing once you hit the pros.
    Grant is definitely the toughest guard one on one in the history of the game. He's got too many releases and is overwhelmingly strong. CRazy high peak in the MLL around 07-08.
    Rabil's numbers in the pros are astounding but he was one of the only players at the time who was able to commit to the game in the way he did. Of course his numbers are crazy. If others in his prime era like Ned Crotty, Matt Danowski or Kyle Dixon were able to just focus on lacrosse they likely would've put up similar numbers.
    No Kyle Harrison? The last true do it all midfielder?
    You could argue that Trevor Baptiste or Greg Gurenlian made more of an impact on their team's season when they won their pro MVPs. There is a voice in my head saying that you can't call them the best ever when they play specialized positions but to make that argument essentially cuts out goalies as well.

  • @RekkiR
    @RekkiR 6 месяцев назад

    Mike Powell is my GOAT, and Rabil did more for the sport than anybody else. You could argue that Lyle Thompson is the GOAT given his stats, and also that he was not surrounded by the deepest bench of top talent, whereas some of the others mentioned here were. When Mikey won his last title (I believe it was), he only had 1 goal and 5 assists which for him was a bad game, but he said (paraphrased) "I didn't have the best game, but I'm lucky to be on the best team in the country." U Albany wasn't a perennial tournament team and didn't have the recruiting/draw of other schools for top players in the country. So, while Mikey is my GOAT given my age, I think Lyle could be.

    So you only care about goals? Brodie Merrill only makes the mentions. Zero goalies, no Fogos and no Kyle Harrison but including Mikey and Spencer who both turned away from lax is a crime.... i say this thinking C Powell/John Grant Jr is the correct decision, but the GOAT isn't just a goals scored stat war.

      LOL. is it also about how many yards they run with the ball in their pocket? :D

    Jack Turbull. You literally name him - the award one of the Powell’s won 4 times is named after him - but somehow he does not make the list.
    Also, love him or hate him - he has to be contextualied for sure - William George Beers should have at least gotten a mention.
    And then there’s Oren Lyons.
    There was lacrosse before the 1950s.
    And defense matters. Come on, go on a limb, put a defender or two (in addition to the goalie Lyons) in the mix.
    Dig deeper.

      Jimmy Lewis - led the Navy frosh team over their varsity in a fall scrimmage. Right after the varsity had won the Ntl Championship! Led Navy to more Champs. Incredible career.
