Just started assembling my legionaries, right on time! I love the camera angles and how you explain your actions and why certain models do the things they do.
It’s a really fun kill team. When the rules first dropped people weren’t initially blown away by them but as time has gone on they’re starting to find out they’re really pretty good. I certainly enjoy them!
As always, very much enjoying the format and commentary of the battle report. First time I've seen legionaries played as a shooting team, though custodes are definitely a team to avoid touching in melee, so very understandable. 5 a, ws 2+, 5/7 with lethal 5 is pretty intimidating after all. In terms of future content, have you considered a narrative spec ops campaign? I haven't yet seen any good videos showing off that aspect of kt yet, so could make for an interesting series. You could add in a bunch of additional stuff as well, for example if you built it around one of the vs sets (say the new moroch or one of the previous ones), with unboxing, your modeling and ideas/takes, ongoing modelling and painting videos as you paint up terrain, replacement models, interesting conversions you came up with etc. You could even use polls in various ways to involve the community on your channel (operative names, models should be painted as which chapter/legion/craftworld etc. ). At least to me, it seems like it could be a fun project to run for you and for us to watch.

I agree. Although we’re not too concerned about what’s Meta, normally we avoid compendium vs bespoke because for the most part, it just wouldn’t be fair, even in the most narrative of games. Custodes are one of the few teams capable of holding their own against a middling bespoke team (certainly not Kommandos or Harlequins!) but we probably need to get a few more different models to vary the load out a bit! As they are currently, it’s a bit tough for them in this configuration. We’re eagerly awaiting the bespoke, Phobos rules!
While that's true of most compendium teams, there are a few(Talons, scions and commorite ) that can compete with the weaker wd and box teams. The bespoke teams are generally definitely stronger, no argument there. Thoiugh speaking of meta, neither were running particularly meta builds (at least to my knowledge of current meta).

Glad you enjoyed it mate! I’ve used ranged legionaries in three games now and they’ve been really effective in each. In fact they should have been more effective in this game as well, I forgot about the first 5 being a crit on each hit with the Mark of Tzeentch and the balefire alcolytes fireblast should have got an additional attack I believe from the blast rule :) The Chalnath kill zone set is a lot more fun than I had initially given it credit for. It plays quite differently from other killzones as the lack of “scatter” terrain like junk piles makes it easier to move around quickly but every terrain piece being heavy really helps block line of sight and establishing tight fire corridors.

Just FYI, Fireblast is a Blast O weapon profile - so it makes a shooting attack on the primary target as well as another shooting attack against each other model within 2" of that primary target in turn. That with the one 5 per shooting attack counting as a crit due to Mark of Tzeentch means close-by models are splashing fiery death on each other left and right.
Love the video I'm gaining intrest in WH40K and now you just inspired me to check the table top. I do think that I've got a lot of reading and money to go through 😅

Hi mate, glad you’re enjoying the reports! Eventually we’d like to have some top down shots but it won’t be for a while yet. We shoot these in our living room which is pretty cramped already without the necessary apparatus to mount a camera above the table. It would be a little too uncomfortable for what we’re willing to put up with. However, I’m slowly turning the garage into an appropriate space to shoot games and when that’s done, I’ll be looking into setting up an overhead camera!
Sorry for the late reply, this for some reason didn't appear in my notifications! That's a good suggestion, we'll need to get the models for that, but when we do, we'll organize a rematch between them.
So as tzeentch always take inv4+ against AP enemies, At 8:50 you cannot use Veterans of a long war since you acctualy had 1 crit and 1 Normal hit against 2 normal saves, so 1 dice got trough, which did damage and made tactical ploy invalid to use. Also at 9:00 you have 2 Crits and 1 normal hit, so it wasnt blocked. You gotta upgrade 1st 5+ into Critical since you are Tzeentch. Also at 10:00 you have 2x5 and 4 so 1 Crit and 2 Normal hits.
These battle reports are really good, there's so much to enjoy! Do you think you will try the new Phobos strike team when it comes out? I'm really curious to see them in action

really enjoyed watching this BR, chaos Legionaires are my fav kill team at the moment, would be great to see you try using them with some melee, the butcher and shrivetalon can be extremely deadly when used correctly :)
You built your legionaries how I do exactly. I've been playing them exclusively since their release and I really like them as a ranged team since melee is kind of messy in kill team. I find them getting free bolter discipline every turn + the free crit on your first 5 roll is absolutely devastating in early turns against most opponents.
They are very killy for sure! I know everyone raves about the melee orientated team and I will give it a go but in general I find melee a bit inefficient. It’s too easy to die during your own activation with it and elite teams don’t have the bodies for that kind of attrition!
@@GrimdarkGamers The Khorne melee team is at its best against the 7 and 8 wound teams where you can maximize the wrecking ball of Perpetual Aggression. Having both shooting and melee on a match play roster is worthwhile. Nurgle can be a very tough ranged team that does well in melee too, and Tzeentch is great at shooting with that 1 die lethal 5+. (Which it seems like you didn't use when you could have many times in this game?)
Perhaps I'd better take a slaaneshy butcher than a bolter bro. He looks scary and is quite fast. He also can hit a custodian with 7-12 damage before dying, that's more than one bolter impact)
Of course, no worries :) A charged plasma gun shot has AP 2, which reduces the number of defense dice rolled by 2. Cute budgie by the way! You might hear our birds in our batreps :D

@@TheDeathbrlnger You’re welcome, you happened to post as I was doing RUclips stuff and I’m always happy to help someone new to the game! Models receiving the benefit of cover from a shooting attack get to automatically assign a single defense dice as a normal (not critical), passed save.
For the gold it was retributor gold, Reikland fleshshade wash (old mix, not sure how the new formulation will work), auric armor then stormhost silver. Jester doesn’t remember how she did the red exactly as it was a while ago. Most likely it would have started as mephiston red, then painted over with a darker contrast like flesh tearers then a blend of the lighter red paints such as evil suns scarlet to layer up the highlights.
Another ripper report and the hobby accountability is paying off with all the new models and terrain! I hate to say it, but I love watching the custodes fail (sorry jester) I have been hurt too many times before…
Thanks mate, it’s good to finally have the Chalnath killzone finished :) . The Custodes certainly walked away with a bloody nose from this one and it turns out the chaos marines should have been extra killy. The fireblast attack should have got an extra attack with the blast rule and I forgot that the first 5 of each ranged attack with each of the marines who had a mark of Tzeentch, should have been a crit!

Honestly not too bad although I did make a couple of mistakes in this one. The chosen could not have taken the invulnerable save (he was the only one without the Mark of Tzeentch) and the shooty team here, is actually even more killy! The mark of Tzeentch basically has the old Let the Galaxy burn strategic ploy (first 5 is upgraded to a hit), built in for free! I see a lot of potential with this team.

Definitely! Although I prefer shooting play styles I love the shrivetalon and butcher models so they’ll absolutely be featuring at some point.

We use a Canon Vixia HF G50 which is a great camera. Video editing software is Corel VideoStudio which is... less great.

Tzeentch gets a 5+ lethal in shooting. And your chosen wouldn’t have had a 4++ because he’s undivided not tzeentch. Solid play either way. MORE GAMES!

what gold and red paints are those on the custodes?
For the gold it was retributor gold, Reikland fleshshade wash (old mix, not sure how the new formulation will work), auric armor then stormhost silver. Jester doesn’t remember how she did the red exactly as it was a while ago. Most likely it would have started as mephiston red, then painted over with a darker contrast like flesh tearers then a blend of the lighter red paints such as evil suns scarlet to layer up the highlights.

Thanks mate, it’s good to finally have the Chalnath killzone finished :) . The Custodes certainly walked away with a bloody nose from this one and it turns out the chaos marines should have been extra killy. The fireblast attack should have got an extra attack with the blast rule and I forgot that the first 5 of each ranged attack with each of the marines who had a mark of Tzeentch, should have been a crit!

Honestly not too bad although I did make a couple of mistakes in this one. The chosen could not have taken the invulnerable save (he was the only one without the Mark of Tzeentch) and the shooty team here, is actually even more killy! The mark of Tzeentch basically has the old Let the Galaxy burn strategic ploy (first 5 is upgraded to a hit), built in for free! I see a lot of potential with this team.
