@@michellezimmermann9160 Only the very best get 1st class honours. Well done your daughter. I studied Mechanical Engineering, in our first year there were 63 of us, in our 2nd year there were 37. Everyone else hadn't made the grade and had the option of waiting a whole year before they could resit the exams. Most if not all left. It didn't half make you focused.

My father ( now retired) is an engineer and toolmaker by profession and he has designed and built machines. He went to grammar school and gained access to his career through an apprenticeship during the late 1950’s. So I’m not at all surprised that nearly half of your fellow students dropped out, especially at degree level!! I hope you had a very enjoyable career since graduating Surrey, and I wish you a long and happy retirement.

My daughter just graduated from Surrey university yesterday. It’s a lovely university and she thoroughly enjoyed her four years there.
