The battery drain issue is a serious design fault of the EWI5000. I have found it completely drained after a week or so on a variety of occasions, with no way to recharge it. But I have found that if you keep a backup battery, even at low charge, and install it to the EWI, it will wake the device up again, after which you can recharge the original battery or just use the backup, until you forget to do it and _that_ one goes dead. Rinse and repeat. It's very frustrating if you're not playing and recharging the EWI every day, which I don't because I play a variety of instruments in various contexts.
Thank you for your comment. I also had the battery draining problems you describe. It was very frustrating not knowing if I would be able to do the EWI 5000 or not. I have an even older model EWI 4000s and there are no problems with it as it is powered by 4x AA batteries. Two years ago, after a long decision on the EWI 5000, I made the modification I am describing. Since then, I have had no problem with the EWI 5000, even though I haven't played it for a long time.
Thanks. The EWI 5000 is a great musical instrument, but the power supply is not very well thought out. I also have an EWI 4000s and there the instrument is powered by four AA batteries. And that, I think, is a better solution. Vlasta.
@@vlastastejskal5313 keep Blowing mate .., I play with EWI 5000, problem with the silicon pipe for water/wind inside the EWI 5000, i fix it and done ..
Thanks , I was not aware of the drain issue. In my EWI5000 it is very low , but it still drains . When leave it without charge for 30 days and it goes from 99 to 80, which is not that critical. I thought it was a normal behaviour of the battery. However now that you mentioned that it is the device´s hardware which is draining the battery, when I am off for a month or two I will just open the battery compartment and disconnect the plug. Thanks
It is certainly possible to remove the battery and disconnect it. But I was tired of disconnecting the battery or risking it running out. The small battery connector is difficult to disconnect, so I solved it with a switch and I do not regret it. Have a great time and enjoy playing the ewi 5000.
Thanks for the video!. I am working on mine, which besides the battery problem, already fixed, has a bad MicroSD card. Do you happen to have done a backup for it?. It would be great to get back my EWI5000. Please, let me know if you can help. Thanks!
I look forward to your video. I did not backup the MicroSD card. It would be nice if Akai had the SD content on their site in case it gets corrupted. I'm thinking of opening the EWI5000 and copying the MicroSD. I'll send you a copy when I do. But it won't be before the end of the summer. Have a nice day.
