It’s tight to see someone that slowed down for a while and then came back harder than ever. This doesn’t happen a lot in skating and it’s inspiring for sure.
I still remember being a kid and seeing his "This is Skateboarding" part and being so influenced by Spanky, Herman, and Romero because the were so young. Seeing them rip at such a young age was so inspiring that I could rip too.
Man, I guess this is as close as we're gonna get to the long form skater docs of Epicly Later'd. It makes them feel like nuggets of gold. I wish they'd put out more and make them longer. I know there's an audience for it.
I really wish they would bring it back. Patrick O'Dell could not have done a better job with the series - every episode is great. It's the perfect mix of human interest and skating lore. Some of the best stuff vice has put out period.
Literally fighting back tears of joy. Spanky is and always will be on my mount rushmore of skaters. he's legendary gem and it's beautiful to see how much of a change he made after all he went through. my top three of 2010's Mike MO, $panky and Malto
met him at a demo in bakersfield, ca back in 2003. we're the same age and he felt like a "regular guy" just like my friends(except he was really good!) now, in this video, again he seems like a regular guy. skating, working, has a family. it's great to see someone in skateboarding my age that's still relatable.
@GuataGuata no, they're talking about people changing after they're famous whether they mean to or not. i had the pleasure of hanging out with Spanky 3x in a few months, he is a very cool guy. Reynolds and Kirchart had enough shit on their minds and were just kind of like "oh hey man" and then kept doing what they were doing. i'm not faulting them at all, some rando just showed up at Kirchart's birthday party, cool who cares, i get it. i'm just saying, Spanky was very inclusive, not too good for anyone. one day everyone was leaving and i felt like i was the "last guy at the party" and was just about to take off when Leo Romero was like "well what are you up to? we're going to grab some food, wanna come?" and showed me all around the city, we ate, we skated etc. i don't see a lot of pros doing that but Leo and Spanky were chill as shit.
As a fellow new father, I have even more respect for Spanky and his time management, considering how productive he is skateboarding and art/design professions. He’s the sickest. So stoked for him.
In 2010, Spanky and the Emerica team were touring in Europe and one of the demos they had was in one of the worst skateparks in Finland. I think there were only like 20-30 people that came to see the demo and I remember when Leo started skating he said "this is so fucking weird". Everyone was silent, there was no music, it was so awkward (but honestly quite the usual in Finland) 😄 however Spanky got out of the van smiling, did some bluntslides on a bank similar to those LA ones, signed some caps and had a good time. Mad respect Spanky, you have always been the one skater that inspires me to pick up my board and go skate. ✌️
It makes me so happy to see how he was able to come back from adversity and claim everything he lost, his story inspires me to be better everyday and im pretty sure it does to alot of others as well. Spanky is the perfect example of getting knocked down once and getting back up 10, mans will forever be one of the goats 🐐
spanky is a great skater for kids to look up to. He's been in the game for a while now and reinvented himself into a slightly different skater that still puts out amazing parts. I love that he now has a foothold in the industry with his creative work too. Love to see it!
Man I’m so glad to see him doing so well and happy. Having started watching him from when he was a kid with Herman and then through all the trials and tribulations over the years to now where he seems so content but still growing is awesome. I was really hoping to hear Reynolds talk because Spanky’s progression and path in life with Baker is what I imagine Reynolds now hopes for when he first finds these young kids going wild in the streets. Grow to love and love to grow.
kevin artwork on instagram is some of the most bizarre and creative stuff ever. love this guy, been following him forever now. somewhat 20 years. much love spanky and baker sb.
Wild this came up on my RUclips home page. Went to middle school with Spanky. 97-98 I think, 12 or 13 years old. He was 'the best skater in school' back then, popular and well liked. We weren't really friends, I was a band nerd, but my friends and I also skated (posers, really) and we were in awe of how much more advanced he was. Cool to see he's doing well.
Seems like Spanky is a very mindful and intentional guy. I'm happy to see him thriving and still being a top pro after so long. I find his demeanor and output inspirational. Anyway, thanks for putting these thoughtful pieces together, Thrasher. Being able to connect more personally with other skaters helps remind me that I'm not alone at times, and that the physical act of skating isn't all there is to to skating here on Spaceship Earth.
Best words ever! "Because we wanted to." I stand where I am today because I did what I wanted to. Not from the drive of money. From the want inside of myself! Live life the way you want. And Spanky is the man!! I always admired his skating!
i have so much respect of that dude! He’s like such a inspiration to skateboarding and everything that he does! thank u spanky!❤️❤️❤️ we appreciate u!!!
been a fan of spanky since this is skateboarding ,such amazing frontside flips, man, what a legend, such a great person in and out of skating such a rad dude
always have been one of my favourites since his part in baker 3, love to see spanky crush it so gracefully and effortlessly these days! you can genuinely tell he's feeling great and that's a great feeling :)
always been super stylish even on his downturn and drinking. My metric for good skating is what makes me want to skate not what’s “good” he’s def one of those guys.
This dude is so underrated. I know he gets his due, but man, his skating is so artistic in Baker 3. I love how he’s breaking his board with the boulder. The way he lands the 180 and Morrissey comes on, on point ✌️ and ❤️ Kevin Long, you grew up bro haha
Spanky cool guy’d me and left me hanging at an emerica demo before as a kid. He was probably having a bad day or something. Just a funny moment I look back on lol. He’s still my favorite skater❤️❤️❤️
Spanky kind of holistically figuring shit out after a time away from skating makes me wish skaters like Grosso and Raemers could have done so themselves. Very rad. 🤙
On a serious note, i asked my dad to take me and my cousin chuy to the active ride shop in chino CA to get the Emerica “This is Skateboarding” dvd and stop by the nearest radio shack to by our first DVD player!! It was freakin amazing 🙌🏽 On top of that we found out there was secret coding options that we can go to on that specific Emerica DVD!!
It’s tight to see someone that slowed down for a while and then came back harder than ever. This doesn’t happen a lot in skating and it’s inspiring for sure.

It's nice to see our heroes still going. Made me start skating again
BAKER 3 TOO...

I love epicly latered!!! And “FREE lunch!❤️🔥

Well skated.

Malto is wack af

Awesome human being on many levels !
I love this dude so much
The ways skateboarding has changed my life 🖤
Very thankful for this! Spanky is very inspirational.
Love learning more about Kevin. Never knew he had that much of an impact in skateboarding, with like creating the graphics for boards etc etc
As a fellow new father, I have even more respect for Spanky and his time management, considering how productive he is skateboarding and art/design professions. He’s the sickest. So stoked for him.

It makes me so happy to see how he was able to come back from adversity and claim everything he lost, his story inspires me to be better everyday and im pretty sure it does to alot of others as well. Amazing skater, great artist, attentive dad and all around good guy it seems. This was really enjoyable to watch.
The way he is with his kid is so cute

More than his incredible skating. I love the look in his eye when he's with his baby. Us good Dads are tough to find. It's the greatest gift.
Spotted a photo of Dylan on his desk at 7:37 🕊 Always loved Spanky’s skating since Baker 3

First saw Spanky in the Kids in Emerica video. One of the best styles in skating hands down
Best words ever! "Because we wanted to." I stand where I am today because I did what I wanted to. Not from the drive of money. From the want inside of myself! Live life the way you want. And Spanky is the man!! I always admired his skating!
Def the most enlightened skateboarder, and a huge inspiration as far as being a human being goes.

His style, profile, it’s mild…and I like it. I like Spanky. Seems like he is very well grounded and psyched on life. 👍🏼
always been super stylish even on his downturn and drinking. My metric for good skating is what makes me want to skate not what’s “good” he’s def one of those guys.
One of my all time favorites. Most of my tricks are because of him especially switch fs big spins and bank skating
He’s so inspiring, especially when you are 30y.o. dad and at the same time you have passion for skateboarding
This guy is an inspiration for us 30+ skaters 🤘🏽
This was pretty damn wholesome. Spanky is the man!!
Keep killing on it every front Spanky, you rule bro!

I think the spirit of emerica was so strong when kids in emerica came out, im still a kid in emerica. Baker 4Life
Being a parent the days are long and the years are short.

Super rad. Spanky rules!
That filmer with the Wheaties hat had a significant part in this. Waylon Bone should have let us known his name
I love your chanel and yours videos😊👌👍
